Ryan Williams.. Is It Time To Start Him?

Let me throw this out there for all you that think you are smarter, know more then the coaches that see these guys everyday:

Williams has been here over 2 years. Williams and Morris have been on the same practice field during that time. Williams and Morris battled for the job last year. Williams lost that battle. Williams was the clear back up this year so much so that their wasn't a QB battle in the spring or fall.

Guess who the coaches think give the team the best chance to win? Guess which QB the staff thought gave Miami the best chance to win tonights game even after Morris had thrown 4 INTs?
Guess which QB the coaches didn't trust to win the game against UF and UNC?

That was a Jacory-like meltdown by Morris.

We've gotten away with back-to-back games of ****ting ourselves with turnovers, but it doesn't work against good teams. Or teams with comparable talent.

The worst part for me was that Morris appeared to have ZERO confidence. He was really a shell of himself.

Sometimes throwing the back-up in for a series or two can spark the team, and even get the starter to really focus. We won't know if that would have happened, or perhaps Morris would have completely fallen apart, which would have undermined him in future games. Thankfully, we escaped with the victory. So the decision to keep him in was vindicated.

SMH: I hope Ryan Williams doesn't struggle at all next year because thread will read, "Kevin Olsen..Is it time to start him"?

The knee jerk reaction is to go with Williams no doubt. But at this point of the season, we're better off sticking with Morris. Had Williams had a little more meaningful game action under his belt, I'd consider. But 6 games in, we ride or Morris. I'm riding

Ah yes, the sunk cost fallacy. (Soon to be known as the Blaine Gabbert fallacy)

The sunk cost fallacy is in game theory sometimes known as the "Concorde Fallacy," referring to the fact that the British and French governments continued to fund the joint development of Concorde even after it became apparent that there was no longer an economic case for the aircraft. The project was regarded privately by the British government as a "commercial disaster" which should never have been started, and was almost cancelled, but political and legal issues had ultimately made it impossible for either government to pull out.

Sometimes knowing when to fold and invest in the next hand is the appropriate course of action. Not clear that is the case now, but also not encouraged by Morris's Big Dig experiment there in Chapel Hill

do Johnson is fumbled in the last two games should we bench him and start Dallas Crawford? no you don't you work through it Morris had a bad game yes 4 picks it happens if you tell me we were playing a Thursday night game the stadium was packed everybody was wearing the dark jerseyswe have in the first time horrible offense ive production our o-line is given up negative plays Morris throws 4 ints and we still won the game not to mention our defense only allows 6 points in the second half this team loses the game last year and any other year its a loss

I'll tell you guys this: It's no longer an aberration. One game you chalk up as aberration. But this is becoming habitual, and it looks like it's affecting his psyche. He's moping on the sidelines now, and you can't have that from your leader.

I never thought that this team was going to run the table, but it's an absolute miracle that we're beating anyone halfway decent (UNC and GT) turning the ball over like we are. That was a miracle last night, and there are no easy answers here. There's no way The Don benches Morris (unless the wheels completely fall off and he can't do anything right and we start losing), so this is all mental *********ion. The Don just won't do it.

I hope Morris rallies because I can assure you that this isn't just an ankle thing. His ankle looked OK when he evaded the rush a few times. In fact, it looked way better than it's looked in many weeks.

The dude's got snakes in his head like Berlin had in 2003, and that **** is tough to shake. Might be time to go to a run-first offense and give Morris half the field to read on pass plays like Chud did with Berlin at the end of the 2003 season. That allowed Berlin to settle down a little against Pitt and in the bowl game and play well enough for us to win.

The excuse making for Stephen morris is eerily similar to how people defended shannon for not developing players, recruiting at all for three years and winning games. Nothing is his fault. Morris's ankle was fine. That is why you saw him run away from perfectly good pockets. The announcers laughed at him. He had 4 picks and 4-5 Dropped picks.

You are right. You should never re-evaluate your decisions. Whatever you decide at the beginning of the year, that's it...stick with it.

That would be true if we wait another week. If Williams is going to be given a chance, the only fair way is to do it now, and let him play against Wake to get in the groove. If Morris plays against Wake and has a bad game, it would be unfair to expect Williams to be able to just step in as the starter against FSU with so little preparation. This is the pivotal week to make that decision. I'm pretty certain Al will stick with Morris.

It's sad. It really is. He should be so much better at this point. The way I look at QB play is you have guys that win you games (Not Morris right now), you have game managers that support solid teams (Not Morris right now), and then you have the guys that actively hurt your team with bad decisions and turnovers (Morris).....I'll take Williams as a game manager at this point. Sorry, just reality.

lolwat?

Well, Morris got hot in late October last year so maybe he can this year to. I would at least think about Williams though.

The one problem here is that VT has a very good run defense, so we just cant start all of the suddenly running the triple option or the veer out of the woodwerks.

We officiallly have a problem.

Yep. Like I said, it's no longer an aberration that you can just chalk as one bad game. When your QB gets the yips it makes it very hard to run a competent offense. Send him to the sports psychologist.

That's the other issue, we are playing strictly outside the hashes on Offense. Morrise is petrified of the middle of the field. Watch his reads, he doesn't even look over the middle. This is a big problem. Man, I would trade QBs with UNC in a heart beat.

They need to focus on the run. And not to the edges, either. Morris is what he is. There is little change in his game over the last year. He can throw a great deep ball, but you are rarely going to get a mistake free game from him unless the opponent is terrible. His footwork drives me nuts, and he has to stop thinking that he can just evade the rush with the long run to the outside and throw the ball away. Taking 7-8 yard sacks is unacceptable. Against real teams, you will lose. Hope Duke comes back healthy and is OK, give him 60% of the carries, give Dallas 40% and roll with it.

Happy they pulled it out last night, but if the team continues to play like this, they will end the year 9-3.
