Ryan Williams.. Is It Time To Start Him?

What makes anyone think Williams would be an upgrade? Morris was limping around, clearly very hurt against USF and GT, and Golden still wanted him out there over Williams. I think that is pretty telling.

Morris has significant flaws and I have my doubts whether we can win anything major with him leading the team but he's proven he can be an average level college QB here. He's going through a tough stretch just gotta work with him and hope he can gain some confidence against Wake Forest.

Good luck trying to beat FSU with a game manger in Williams. Morris has plenty of issues, but if we want to make this a dream season, he gives us the best chance. If we are content with 10 wins and simply beating the teams we should, then give Williams the nod.

Not sure what's going on in this thread. Just read the initial post. Basically, I don't think Morris gets moved and I don't understand why anyone is surprised at Morris' erratic play (though he's never played as poorly as he did last night). Here's what I said about him yesterday before the game:

He's a confusing player in that he flashes brilliance and follows it up with wildness. I've mentioned he's somewhere between a lesser Matthew Stafford and Josh Freeman. Both of those guys were 1st round QBs. Both are erratic - to varying degrees. Both have cannons, which lets them be sloppy with footwork sometimes. Both had issues after the 1st read. I don't know where I'd draft him if I were an NFL team, but frankly I don't give a **** right now. I'm just hoping he helps us win important games.

If Morris is hurt, he needs to sit next week for the WF game and get better. If Morris is mentally down, then he needs to go in and and pass a lot against WF to build his confidence. As far as Ryan Williams goes, most think he will be capable, but keep your expectations in check of how he will perform and what kind of passes he can make. Remember that he has only played against weak teams and in garbage time when we already had a big lead.

Williams hasnt played a relevant snap all year long. In fact, the only time in his career here that he played meaningful minutes, he crapped the bed at the end of the UNC game last year. I dont think anyone has any doubt Morris would have won that game last year. Not suggesting Williams cant be a good player, but the back-up QB is always the most popular player amongst the fans, yet there is a reason why he is the back-up.

I am with you 100%.

While I'm not ready to say Morris should be benched, I disagree with your game manager comment. Many championships have been won with "game managers" at the QB position. With the large number of explosive playmakers on this team, we don't need a QB that makes amazing throws to win. We need a QB that gets the ball to those playmakers efficiently and consistently without making stupid, boneheaded plays that put us in a hole. This year Morris has been making many of those stupid plays. It's great that he can make some amazing throws, but when he NEEDS to make them to bail us out of a mess he put us in, how useful is that?

Morris is good (for the most part) as long as the OL gives him time. When he panics or feel pressure he makes stupid mistakes. That has always been the case.....remember we were calling for his head often last year. People seem to forget that because he got hot the final 2 games of the year.

Sorry, but we dont have the playmakers like you think we have. Duke is a stud and the WRs are legit, but it's not like Dorsey throwing a little 5 yard slant to Andre Johnson and watching him streak 60 yards up the field or watching the 2001 defense and special teams score 14 points in what seemed like every game. This team needs a playmaker at QB right now.

Yesterday was unusually bad in that the other team caught the ball more often because he combined bad decisions AND inaccuracy (that throw to Hagens and that throw where it looked like he was throwing it away on the right sideline both stand out). He was very protected in 2012. He worked outside the hash, bombed the ball or threw a one step screen pass. You basically have a senior QB that you need to rely on to some degree - especially when Duke goes out. When you stop protecting him, you basically have to accept some level of erratic play. Yes, yesterday was extreme. Still can't imagine he'll be pulled.

YES!!! Right Now Morris is a liability. I have no idea what is going on with his injury or what his injury actually is and i APPRECIATE that he is gutting it out and all, but the way he was playing last night is hurting the team. The way he played the last two games is HURTING the team. There is something going on with that leg and someone mentioned it earlier, but he footwork is completely off because of it and we all know Morris isnt the most accurate QB to start with but couple that with an injury and he no longer looks inaccurate but inaccurate and a head case. I know he is better than he has been in the last three games but if he can't give us 100% he needs to sit the bench until he can. These games are too crucial.

I will put up a video analysis of his footwork from last nights game against footwork pre-injury for everyone to take a look at after I wrap up the Flash Forwards.

It's a very tough call. I just can't understand how Morris can't have a better command of the game than he does at this point. On many of his throws last night you could see guys running wide open, but he seemed to lock in. He did make some nice throws, but I'm now in the "is this where he takes a stupid sack or throws an int" mode.
I keep hearing coach Golden saying "we'll get it fixed", but it ain't gettin' better.

Game manager Chase Rettig **** near did that to FSU and Clemson.

BC doesn't have the Miami defense. First bad night on offense. We still could have scored 40+ points with TDs instead of FGs. I feel if this team scores over 28 then we've won our football game. (I know GT got 30)

The only resemblance between Morris and Stafford is they both have strong arms.

Turnovers are becoming a bigger problem for us every week.

If a DB EARNS a INT I'm not really livid about it. Morris throws some dumb *** interceptions though. A punt is not a bad play.

This. There's erratic and then there's what Morris has been doing for a couple games now.

You missed the "lesser" part, apparently. Plus, all of those other things I mentioned were issues for Stafford in College and, to a lesser degree, continue to be now as a veteran NFL QB.
