Pratice 7 notes

So when we come out running more nickel and dime you'll be praising Al for a great adjustment ? It won't be " about **** time you make a basic adjustment, but it took 4 years to make it"?

The D will be better next year , not because of more talent but more to do with adjusting their scheme . Fans have been ****ing about the lbs on the field all year, then after the season Al says " we need to run more nickel and dime next year". No **** ?

Why did it take a full season to figure that out, especially when your cb are your strength?

That's proof alone stupid fans had more sense than a pro making 2 million a year. It's basic high school football sense , that's concerning .

Btw, you have to be a troll or related to Golden.

Did this fool just say we won't have better talent this year?

Actually I didn't , I said the D will be better " more" to do with adjustment of scheme than talent. It's called reading comprehension sport.

The staff knows what they're doing isn't working, they hear all the talk. That's why Al threw the whole " more nickel and dime next year " statement out. Like he'd just found the ark of defenses , even though it's basic as ****.

Btw, the talent will technically be better but majority of the improved talent is freshmen, so that won't be a huge difference, especially in the trenches .

Ok just checking.

But don't flatter yourself in thinking Golden and D'onforio are talking more nickel and Dime because fans have mentioned it.
It had more to do with being stubborn and sticking with one coverage concept than them not knowing about Nickel and Dime. I mean c'mon dude seriously.
It's just that with this defense it was pick your poison. Really wouldn't have mattered if they went nickel and dime without the front 4 generating a consistent pass rush.
They were banking on a 3-4 zone blitz, stunting, disguising coverages and dropping DL in robber zones in the hopes of confusing the QBs into making an errant throw. It worked vs UF and seems like they stuck with it all season. Problem was with QB's that can buy time with their feet killed us.
But like I said, it wouldn't have mattered much if we went N&D without a pass rush. Would have left us vulnerable to running plays, draws out, read options out of spreads offensive formations.

McCord, Muhammed, chick and Kamalu is a third down matchup that is going to provide problems for offenses this year.

The problem is that we don't know yet whether they are any good.

THIS HAS BEEN THE ANNUAL RITUAL FOR A WHILE NOW.... "RAVE" ABOUT THE UPCOMING "TALENT" ....CUSS AND SCREAM TO FIRE THE COACHES BY THE END OF THE SEASON....HIRE NEW COACHES AT A 'BOGO' WAL-MART SALE.....RECRUIT “STARS” BASED UPON THEIR “TALENT” …….RINSE & REPEAT AS NECESSARY......

Yes, he really said that. The defense getting better won't be because of talent getting older and gaining experience and having more of it. It will be because the stubborn staff has heard the rumblings from the fans to add nickel and dime defense as if they had never heard of such a thing.

You know, anyone with a lick of football knowledge knows nickel and dime not being used is what held the defense back. It had nothing to do with Green, Cornelius, Highsmith, Renfrow, Rodgers and company being the Senior group. Can't wait to see all of those ballers on Sunday playing in their Nickel and Dime schemezzz.

Cribby for da DC! Fiah da corches and change da schemezzz!

Plenty of good teams play base defense against the spread - Michigan St does it all the time
I agree, but we sort of went away from that.

"For Mark Dantonio's and Pat Narduzzi's Spartan defense, many of the principles were borrowed from the Miami 4-3 Over defenses that keyed Jimmy Johnson's rise to football prominence"

Great link! After reading it it's hard to argue that our problems on D are due ONLY to lack of talent.

Most of the guys we have now would have played better in a 1-gap system.Alot less thinking as freshmen offsets their shortcomings.

Can you provide this interview? I don't believe anything will be different.

I " think" it was an interview with Joe Rose sometime after the season,he mentioned how much better our secondary will be . Which will allow us to run more nickel and dime. I remember i was like " wow", you'd rather had our 230 pound.+ lbs out there than db's? It makes no sense.

I'd been ****ing all year about more db's on the field, so that comment rustled my jimmies.

Please name all of these DB's you would have liked on the field that weren't. I don't think you clowns who keep ****ing about schemezzz understand how very little talent this defense has had for the past three years.

Fella I'm not a mope or a slurper , I speak what I see. To be honest both of you are aggravating as **** . In your eyes Al can't do no wrong and in their eyes he can't do right.

If you mention a valid concern about the staff or questionable decisions, guys like you run in to wrap your mouth around Al. Then name off excuses. Guys like me are screwed, I see issues with Al and his staff, but also understand the situation wasn't normal. I believe the " cloud" was real and he was at a disadvantage.

BUT..... If you aren't a little concerned that means you're blind . In game coaching, adjustments and scheme are quite suspect. Temple fans said this when he landed the job.

I'm willing to give him to the fourth year before I start calling for heads.

Now to answer your question. I'd put **** near any of our db's out there rather than have 240 pound sloth lbs on slot wr's, that's common **** sense. I mean Artie, TH, Gunt , Kacey, Elder, Crawford or Bush couldn't stay with a wr better than TA, DP or Tc? You can't be that brainwashed or biased . ****, I'd put Dortch or Hope out there before those guys.

How maby times did the staff have to see lbs getting raped in coverage to try something new? A basic nickel or dime? That's insanity to keep running lbs out there on wr's and expect different results .

Nickel means five db's and dime means six. Not just cbs, db's. I'd much rather have KR / RJ at S with any of the guys I mentioned above on wr's than lb. Any of them

That's basic football , that's what causes me to doubt staff. It took to year four to realize we should take lb's off the field. A lb matched on a wr is an automatic mismatch, and you continually do it all game. It's crazy.

I'm sure you'll have some bs excuse and keep and argument going, but I don't play that crap. I don't have any agenda, just call what I see.

Feel free to have a mope versus slurper argument on your time .

Figured you would name all of the DB's on the roster. Predictable.... Yawn...

The staff sees these players every day and actually coach as a profession. I'll trust their evaluations over yours.

Throwing a bunch of players that aren't ready just to run the scheme you want to see means jack **** to me.

Gave up ripping staff for lunch, so you will have to do. Isn't it better to throw a bunch of players who aren't ready to run your scheme but might be physically able to if there suddenly "get it", than it is to throw a bunch of players who no matter how much they "get it" they just can't "DO IT"? Back in the day, with Darin Smith and Armstead at LB, we could let them cover almost any WR silly enough to come into their area. We do not even try to recruit LBs like them now-- way to small. We use to play our base D most of the time back then and dare teams to do what they could. Sadly, those days are memories of old men. You must have players who fit your scheme. If you don't have those players, you either change your scheme to fit your players, or hope you still have your job when you get the players who fit it. It is clear which choice Al has made. Clock started ticking during the VT game and will move faster and faster as this season progresses. Beating FSU will freeze for an extra year. For Al or against Al, in the end winning matters.

And yes I'd rather have Kacey ( former cb) on a wr than thurston freaking armbrister.

You line your defense up by what offensive personel is in the game, you don't run 4 lbs out against spread formations, it's that simple. If you can't understand that then pull your head from Al's cheeks .

I'd much rather have Rodgers, Elder , Hope, Bush, Carter, Dortch, Howard, Gunter or Crawford covering wr than a 240 pound sloth lb.

Unc had a god awful run game all year , lined up in spread and armbrister is over a wr, lol.

We're screwed before the snap, that's coaching and schematics . Sorry to burst bubbles.
I mentioned this in another thread I was shocked at some of the personnel packages Miami had in against UNC.

This isn't anything new. I made an entire post about our defensive packages from the KSU 2012 game. They came out in spread all game long and we stayed in base defense. I know LuCane has made several posts about how to attack our defense. All you have to do is spread us out and then exploit the mismatches we create for ourselves.
I think that is the frustrating part Miami defensive staff gets an idea with it and they roll with is no matter what. They should be in nickle or dime most of the game against a HUNH spread team.

I already see a big problem for next year. Golden says he doesn't plan on playing kamalu and Chick at the same time because he has AQM and Mccrod on the other side. Now that sounds good until you realize how small AQM and Mccord are. Those two are going to struggle setting the edge on early downs.

still boggles the mind that these guys have a BCS coaching gig and actually line up like this. over and over again. so much fail there. offense can do whatever it wants.

this is why many of us are done with this staff. when you see this kinda **** over and over again and continue getting burned...just unreal

One huge issue I have with Golden/Doritos coaching style is that they coach scared. They're still calling games like they're still at Temple in a money game against Ohio State or something. Like they're gonna get out-athleted if they call a game too aggressive.

They choose coverage 9 times out of 10 over an aggressive blitz. I mean, look at what we have in that screenshot. We have three 300-pounders rushing the passer and dropping 8 in coverage. I can't tell for sure, but that looks like Pierre, Renfrow and Luther Robinson on the DL. How do you expect to get a pass rush with three DTs rushing the passer? 2nd 5 in today's game is a passing down and we have our base defense in like this is 1980s Big Ten football or some ****.

Where's the aggression? Where's the balls? They coach scared. Afraid to give up the big play so instead they let teams dink and dunk their way down the field picking up 8-10 yards a completion hoping to tighten up once the opposing team marches into the redzone. **** is pathetic.
