Pratice 7 notes

Where are the "4-3" base scheemzz experts out there? There is now a new "nickel and dime" crew who wants their scheemz used more? LMAO, cannot make this stuff up. The D cord guru's are out in full force, dissecting ONE play......ONE play and using that as the example for the entire season. And to top it off, can't even agree on what personnel should have been used on that ONE play. :ibisroflmao:

you do realize that these coaches have put out 2 of the worst defenses in school history back to back?

you realize that in the depths of the Coker/Shannon disaster circa 2006-2008 or so, we NEVER had a defense that was as bad as F.A.G.'s best defense at Miami?

what in the world could make anyone think that these clowns know wtf they are doing. it is so plainly obvious and anyone defending them looks like they're trolling

If you are such a history buff, you would know they were not the worst in school history. Terrible yes, not worse in school history.

Whats the most we won in those circa 2006-2008 seasons? 7 games max, even with defenses that were better. So you are telling me you prefer a better D with less wins? Eff that, I will take the wins all day and twice on Sundays.

Didnt this staff have a top 20 D last year at Temple? Didnt Golden as DC for VA have a top 20 D his last year? or nah?

No, Golden actually regressed back to the mean in his last year at UVA

2001: 93
2002: 100
2003: 67
2004: 18
2005: 60

For perspective:

Temple
2006: 117
2007: 44
2008: 81
2009: 32
2010: 16

Miami
2011: 45
2012: 116
2013: 90

So basically 2 Top 20 defenses in his entire experience as a coach. And people call him a "defensive coach" just as a reminder.

You are right, not his last defense, but his second to last was a top 20. Now that we got that tid bit out of the way, its still a top 20 defense like I said. The point I was making, because it looks like you missed it, was that his D has produced top 20 defenses as opposed to him saying it has never happened.

So now,you have done all your fact checking, and verified that in fact he has produced 2 top 20 defenses, Thank you.

You gotta learn how to stay on topic home slice. Your skills at reading between the lines is cloudy.
He said regressed back to the mean, home slice. That means, he fields ****** defenses, has one good year and reverts back to his ****** defenses as was shown statistically above home slice. The top 20 ranked defenses at UVA and Temple are an anomaly when you look at Golden's whole body of work home slice.

I expect our DC to sub out personnel EVERY SINGLE TIME the opposing offense does it. Just like EVERY OTHER legit football program in the country (and Canada) from Pop Warner all the way to the NFL does.

SMDH

I guess Bama is not a legit Program then.

I just figured out the root of the all the discord. Some of you guys think this is like in Madden where you can pause and sub on every play.
It's not and you can't especially against fast faced and huddle offenses. This aint madden.
SMDH.

Bama changes their personnel basically every time the opposition does.

No they don't. Hence why Saban is a proponent for slowing down the game. So he can sub players. Not being able to is what is putting his defenses and all other at a disadvantage.
If he and Beilema can't get the rule to pass you'll begin seeing him recruit more hybrid type LB's.
You're ****ing stupid. IF the offense subs players, referees stand over the ball to allow the defense to sub as well.

If the defense gets caught with the wrong personnel in then that's completely on them because when an offense subs players, the defense is allowed to sub also.

This.

Uva had ****** talent on those defenses too and golden still couldnt produce. Ahmad brooks, chris long, chris canty and some more guys that went to the nfl and he only produced 1 top 20 defense.

With Temple he played a bunch of teams who's offenses were ranked in the 100's.

I guess its ok to have one of the worst defenses ever as long as once every 4 years you have a good one after playing a weak schedule.

Even this year, with the terrible offenses we faced, it seemed like all of them had their best game of the season against us.

So when we come out running more nickel and dime you'll be praising Al for a great adjustment ? It won't be " about **** time you make a basic adjustment, but it took 4 years to make it"?

The D will be better next year , not because of more talent but more to do with adjusting their scheme . Fans have been ****ing about the lbs on the field all year, then after the season Al says " we need to run more nickel and dime next year". No **** ?

Why did it take a full season to figure that out, especially when your cb are your strength?

That's proof alone stupid fans had more sense than a pro making 2 million a year. It's basic high school football sense , that's concerning .

Btw, you have to be a troll or related to Golden.

Did this fool just say we won't have better talent this year?

Yes, he really said that. The defense getting better won't be because of talent getting older and gaining experience and having more of it. It will be because the stubborn staff has heard the rumblings from the fans to add nickel and dime defense as if they had never heard of such a thing.

You know, anyone with a lick of football knowledge knows nickel and dime not being used is what held the defense back. It had nothing to do with Green, Cornelius, Highsmith, Renfrow, Rodgers and company being the Senior group. Can't wait to see all of those ballers on Sunday playing in their Nickel and Dime schemezzz.

Cribby for da DC! Fiah da corches and change da schemezzz!

This is why you are a joke. First you complained, because all of the dbs we had were listed as better options in pass coverage than a 250lb LB. Then you list out the bad talent that was put on the field instead of the other potential options. I'll say it again. I'll take an inexperienced db to play pass coverage over a slow LB who is not physically capable and makes just as many mistakes as the inexperienced db and those mistakes are compounded because his physical ability is not sufficient for where they have him playing.

So now we should put inexperienced DB's in the game over slow LB's who are not physically capable? Sounds like the DC is up **** creek to me you mental midget. Oh gee, put in the inexperienced DB or the slow crappy LB?

Fiah da corches and change da schemezzz because the talent on defense isn't up to Miami standards, YET! Idiots...

Thanks for proving you are an idiot again and trying to pick and choose pieces of my statement. I said specifically that the LB who is not physically good enough to cover the guy he is on is also making just as many mistakes mentally as the inexperienced db. I even made it bold for you in the quote so you can see it. I said is physical disadvantage further compounds the mistakes he is making. When you are not physically good enough to cover someone, you can't afford to make a mistake in coverage or he is gone.

We were **** near everyone's heisman game. Even Driskell had a good passing game against us.

Whooaaaa. No need to get nasty.

Nick Saban:
"The team gets in the same formation group, you can't substitute defensive players, you go on a 14-, 16-, 18-play drive and they're snapping the ball as fast as you can go and you look out there and all your players are walking around and can't even get lined up."

LOL at all the clueless cats that liked your post.. LULZ.

Saban's argument has nothing to do with matching up personnel groupings.

His argument is: Even if he has the right personnel group on the field, he doesn't like the rule that if the offense chooses not to substitute then he can't either. Simple as that.

Exactly. Saban isn't arguing about personnel. He's arguing about conditioning and his 300+ lb DL and 250+ LBs not being able to last an entire drive without being taken out of the game.

Holy **** do you have some sort of a cognitive disorder? Seriously. Let me spell it really clearly for you, with numbers that go in order so it is easy for you to follow:

(1) You made the point that he has produced 2 Top 20 defenses

(2) I am assuming you are making that point to argue that it is indicative he knows how to coach defense

(2)(a) If you are not making that point, then why are you wasting everyone's time blabbing about it? I don't think there is anyone on this board who has asserted that Golden has never coached a Top 20 defense.

(3) Based on #2, I am countering that point with the fact that those two Top 20 defenses are outliers and aren't indicative or probative of anything, because outliers are the exception and not the rule. Do you need me to actually explain what an outlier is, or what regressing back to the mean means, or do you have it from here? I can break it down further if you need me to, champ.

Hold on champ, are you really trying to sell that his total defensive ranking he got he got his first year at Temple (117th) carries the same WEIGHT has his last (16th)? When he truly owned every aspect of that defense from personnel, development to implementation compared to his 1st year when he basically was at the mercy of what he inherited.
That's the flaw in your simpleton statistical extrapolation approach which is grossly misapplied BTW.
Golden's track record shows that he's improved situations at every stop given enough time. Given the data we should expect the same here, champ.

Given what data? What data are you looking at? At UVA where he clearly didn't improve the situation there since the defense regressed back to the same mediocrity it had been all but one year of Golden's tenure? At Miami where he seriously regressed from year 1 to 2 and hardly improved in year 3?

Oh yes, the Temple argument. Golden got beat (and usually big) by any team with a pulse just like he does at Miami.

Again, he also played the worst ranked college offenses in college football. Teams who's offense sucked when playing against other scrub teams which means they were likely even worse.

But he was also playing those bad offenses when his defenses were ranked in the 100ths. So there must have bee improvement. Right?

If you shine a ****, how much more improved is it? In the end its still a ****. Improving a 100ths ranked defense against bad opponents only proves you can take advantage of opponents who have plenty of mistakes. Lets see if he can do the same against BCS teams.
