Pratice 7 notes

Al said in an interview awhile back that he plans on using more nickel and dime,I'm glad he found out about those new defenses . Maybe Parcells called and told him it's not good to have 3 or 4 lbs against spread formations .

Mind blowing news.

"Nickel and Dime" Defense would be appropriate for anything Dohnofrio is corching

Great porst.

MIA42178 is flying around the boards today making great porsts.

Can you provide this interview? I don't believe anything will be different.

McCord, Muhammed, chick and Kamalu is a third down matchup that is going to provide problems for offenses this year.
We ran this a lot last year. It was not very successful. They would be crazy to play Chickillo at DT except for special situations. He has played there a lot in the last 3 years and has stunk.

Hate to say it but #71 should be on the bench. He brings nothing to the table except veteran leadership. Can't pass rush and can't shed a block in the run game. If you can't do one of those two.... Sit down. Kamalu will handle it

I " think" it was an interview with Joe Rose sometime after the season,he mentioned how much better our secondary will be . Which will allow us to run more nickel and dime. I remember i was like " wow", you'd rather had our 230 pound.+ lbs out there than db's? It makes no sense.

I'd been *****ing all year about more db's on the field, so that comment rustled my jimmies.

Please name all of these DB's you would have liked on the field that weren't. I don't think you clowns who keep *****ing about schemezzz understand how very little talent this defense has had for the past three years.

Many felt Ryan Mayes wasn't worth a scholarship. We've heard that in the past about guys who have played well (Jenkins comes to mind). Good to see him earning some praise though obviously it doesn't mean much now.

True......, but we heard the same regarding players like Larry Hope. Earl Moore was nick named the 'The Bull' and so forth. And then there is the legend himself in Kendall Tompkins......

Oh yes, the infamous Greentree All American team. I haven't written Moore off just yet but of course your point holds. Mayes was viewed as the weak link in this class by many, so I think its a little different but we've had more guys tear up the practice field, and never even take the field on Saturdays than I can count.

Fella I'm not a mope or a slurper , I speak what I see. To be honest both of you are aggravating as **** . In your eyes Al can't do no wrong and in their eyes he can't do right.

If you mention a valid concern about the staff or questionable decisions, guys like you run in to wrap your mouth around Al. Then name off excuses. Guys like me are screwed, I see issues with Al and his staff, but also understand the situation wasn't normal. I believe the " cloud" was real and he was at a disadvantage.

BUT..... If you aren't a little concerned that means you're blind . In game coaching, adjustments and scheme are quite suspect. Temple fans said this when he landed the job.

I'm willing to give him to the fourth year before I start calling for heads.

Now to answer your question. I'd put **** near any of our db's out there rather than have 240 pound sloth lbs on slot wr's, that's common **** sense. I mean Artie, TH, Gunt , Kacey, Elder, Crawford or Bush couldn't stay with a wr better than TA, DP or Tc? You can't be that brainwashed or biased . ****, I'd put Dortch or Hope out there before those guys.

How maby times did the staff have to see lbs getting raped in coverage to try something new? A basic nickel or dime? That's insanity to keep running lbs out there on wr's and expect different results .

Nickel means five db's and dime means six. Not just cbs, db's. I'd much rather have KR / RJ at S with any of the guys I mentioned above on wr's than lb. Any of them

That's basic football , that's what causes me to doubt staff. It took to year four to realize we should take lb's off the field. A lb matched on a wr is an automatic mismatch, and you continually do it all game. It's crazy.

I'm sure you'll have some bs excuse and keep and argument going, but I don't play that crap. I don't have any agenda, just call what I see.

Feel free to have a mope versus slurper argument on your time .

Plenty of good teams play base defense against the spread - Michigan St does it all the time

State runs a 4-3 over, majority one gapping. Also their scheme is very simple, allows dl to get up field and db's to press.

We 'll be out there against spread teams in a base D , with huge Dl 2 gapping and read/reacting. Then mix in our huge lb's in coverage. So no pass rushers , all day to pass, db laying off and TA on a slot.

Yeah, that makes sense.

They played nickel majority of Ohio state game or against any other spread team .Also it's not asking much of smaller lb to cover when your dl is getting up field and db are pressing. It's nothing alike.

Cribby, spot on assessment. However when we're in a short yardage situation, be it 2nd or 3rd, you need to stop run first. Therefore, you try to use a guy that is big enough to defend run and ideally be able to jam the wr enough to throw off the timing of a short route. Unfortunately neither TA or TC got the job done. Obviously there were plenty of times we just plain had the wrong personnel out there too. There are some game day issues that need improvement.

They didn't provide many problems last year.

Not sure Driskell would agree with you

Our pass rush worked in the beginning of the season because there was no film on it yet. Our tendencies weren't as obvious as they became as the season went on.

McCord only had a speed rush and 90% of the time AQM ran a T-E stunt. We weren't creative at all in 3rd and long situations.

Great post. I don't understand how Ibis can act like DB wasn't arguably our strongest and deepest unit last season. Gunter, Howard, Crawford and Burns at CB and we continually chose to keep our base defense in even when teams had 3 or 4 WRs in? Doesn't make sense to me.

That's why when you play spread teams you replace a lb with a S , good enough for run support and can still cover. Or replace a lb with a cb and bring a S down for the run. There's many options, but we continually did the same ole crap.

Did you not see what we had at SAFETY? Sorry that was not an option last year. Maybe moving forward it will be, but not the last 2 years.
