OK, convince me why Golden should still be here after this.

Just want to say what's up. This is my first post and love Miami football.

Are people really calling for coaches heads already? Golden inherited a .500 football team. His first year here he had a roster full of upperclassmen. All of those upperclassmen left. He brought Streeter out of the doghouse and had him balling after one offseason. Lamar Miller was playing the best football we had seen out him. I thought this team would take a step back this year. **** in spring ball there weren't even enough WR's to practice. Golden's already instilled fight in this team. Penalties have been cut way back. There's 55 true Sophomores or younger on this roster. There's 22 true Sophomores or younger in the defensive two deep. Are people suggesting that our JV defense is supposed to shut down Varsity offenses all year long? We lost Lamar Miller and Golden has Duke in there balling out. The best players with the most promise are the new guys. How about having a little patience and envision what the future holds. Miami fans did the same thing to Butch when he came in and didn't win right away. And spare me the probation talk, 10 years of Coker and Randy is just like being on probation. Golden is the truth. Cut the man some slack and let him rebuild this program. ST's is starting to look special again. The offense is starting to click. The offensive line is finally starting to get push. The defense will get there but they are too young to be dominate and run man to man. Right now they are a bend and don't break defense that keeps the play in front of them. Man coverage will come in time. Coaching change will not get this program anywhere. This team loses nobody this offseason.

Step back from the ledge and enjoy watching these young kids develop. Goldden and his coaching staff isn't going anywhere unless you fans run him out of town just like you did Butch. Butch was garbage up until he produced the best CFB team the nation has ever seen. Well at least our know it all fans made that claim. Now those same know it all's want Butch back? If any of you knew as much as you think you know you wouldn't be on a blog. You'd be coaching against Saban or Golden at some D-1 football program. Get it?

Welcome, and no. No one is calling for his head yet. We are allowed to question what we have seen the last 10 games, yes?

BTW, the fans didn'r run Butch off.

Also, as to keeping things in front with the defense, If that were true we wouldn't be having this conversation.

No, I don't think the fans do have the right to question scheme or play calling right now. This is a rebuild from scratch that started this year. Last year the coaches were just getting by with what they had left over from the last regime. Most of those players are long gone and this team is the youngest in the nation. You can't run man defense right now and expect success especially when all of your D-line is true Sophomores or younger for the most part.

If you think our fans didn't run Butch off then I beg to differ. I'm sure that plane that flew over the OB with the banner that read "From National Champs to National Chumps, Thanks Butch" was engrained in his mind when he told everybody he was going nowhere and 24 hours later he was on his way Ohio. Miami fans are an instant gratification bunch of know it all's who know nothing and have no vision.

Like I said, sit back and enjoy watching this coaching staff develop these kids. Player development has been absent from this program since Butch left. History has a way of repeating itself and a young fiery coach like Al Golden is exactly what makes Miami successful. Coach D will end up going down as one of the best DC's this program has ever had. You may think you know but you don't.

Inb4 someone says this is a message board..... Lol.

It is a message board. We are also supposed to be fans who keep up with our team. The fact is Golden took over a .500 football team and all the upperclassmen left after last season. Now he's got a roster of 55 true Sophomores and Freshmen that are fighting like **** but haven't put it all together. Being unrealistic and calling for coaching change at this point of a rebuild is beyond insane.

You do realize your on a Canes specific board that is an offshoot of another board some of the same posters that have been posting since 97'?

So yeah, I think we keep up with our team. I've heard these same comments from the Randy crowd. Just wait till he gets his guys in here. Then we will see.

Funny thing is Golden has the same or close to the same record as Randy did at this same point.

My bad, top 25 coach. I know we can pay that high. Still no dice.

You sure about that?

You know it as well just from the coaches they have talked to in the past.

If Golden's salary is $1.6M, as has been reported, that would put him lower than the coaches at Utah, USF, UMinn, Kentucky, SMU, Illinois, Duke, UVa, NCSU, Maryland, Kansas, Wake, Rutgers, Louisville, Missouri....

He'd be 45th on Phil Steele's top paid coaches list, which doesn't even include private schools, like USC and ND, which everyone knows would be higher up on the list. So, he's probably not even one of the highest 50 HC salaries. Talk is cheap, and so is the U (by necessity).

You know Golden wasn't our first choice?

You know that Golden is the one who accepted the offer?

Exactly. We have every right to be concerned, and to ***** and moan about our concerns as much as we want.

I remember when Randy came in, and by year two our WR play had improved tremendously. We all thought that it was a sign of good things to come. It's great that our special teams aren't epically awful anymore, but where else has play improved across the board? CB, maybe? O-line due to better conditioning although those guys are still inconsistent, and while we don't have maximum experience on the offensive line, it is one of our deepest and most experienced positions. No excuses there.

The d-line has regressed horribly these past two seasons, despite better conditioning in our program, and while the defensive line is no doubt our most talent deprived area, it should be noted that most of the guys who have been truly awful are Golden's guys. I seriously doubt we have the worst defensive line in the nation from an athlete perspective (no doubt it is bad, compared to the rest of college football). Do you see the guys some of these smaller BCS and non-BCS schools put out there? How come those defenses are ranked ahead of us, and how come they can manage either penetration or proper gap control (dependent upon scheme/playcalling)?

It looks like we are improving in some areas and regressing in others again, reminiscent of the Shannon era. If you are overly optimistic, you will only see the positives and write the negatives off, like many of us did with Shannon. Personally, as much as I love being generally optimistic, I refuse to go into denial again when I see something that should be intensely disconcerting with my Canes. I would really rather be skeptical and wrong than have to deal with getting my hopes up again, particularly after this loss.

It should be noted that if we had lost to VT last week and beat UVA this week I would be nowhere near as concerned about our future. It isn't that we lost, it's who we lost to.

LOL. Golden's "guys" are all freaking freshman and true sophs! Does ANYONE in this fanbase understand that? If we're expecting Golden's "guys" (freshmen and sophs, mind you) to carry this team at this point, less than 2 seasons into his tenure here, we're in deep *****!!!!....oh...wait...that's exactly what we're doing...it's shocking that we're a 0.500 team under these circumstances! I'm shocked and chagrined! Mortified and stupefied!

And this guy is worried that we lost to UVa instead of VT...yet, we were underdogs in the game, on the road, fielding a team full of underclassmen and under-talented, under-achieving upperclassmen who wouldn't be starting for FIU. Go figure. Mmmmkay.

Wait, so we were supposed to lose because vegas said we should? Using vegas as your defense as why we should be bad is really weak. This isn't pre-season, we have played 10 games and we are playing in a very weak ACC. I actually watched the games.

How long did it take you t know Coker wasn't the HC we needed, Shannon?

Anyone who thinks Golden is going anywhere or that by firing him RIGHT NOW BEFORE SANCTIONS is a GOOD THING is a M*R*N.

Golden is making materially more than 1.6M. Don't know the real number but I'd guess it at closer to a 2.3M average over the term, could be more than that.

Anyone who thinks Golden is going anywhere or that by firing him RIGHT NOW BEFORE SANCTIONS is a GOOD THING is a M*R*N.

Hege, your better than this man. This isn't what is being said. We are calling into question his coaching and the actually team on the field.

I'm curious though, if this was shannon's second year with the same results heading into sanctions, would you be saying the same thing?

The point, which went about a mile over your head, is that Vegas thought the game was essentially a toss-up. Vegas thought that we were essentially on the same level as UVa, giving them some nod for being at home. The only people who don't realize that we're a mediocre team, on a similar level as the rest of the very weak ACC, is the delusional fanbase. Losing to UVa, or any other FBS team, should not shock anyone because we aren't good. If you were really watching the games, you'd know that, too.

I wanted Coker gone after the Fiesta Bowl. Shannon...eh, I was rooting so hard for him to succeed...I agreed with the timing of letting him go.

If people have thin-skin and can't take other fans legitimately bringing up issues, then you should go the **** home. Christ. Some people want this to be a board where we all hold hands and sing kumbya Golden. It's absurd and delusional.

it should be noted that most of the guys who have been truly awful are Golden's guys.

It's pretty telling if it took you that long to decide Shannon was in over his head.

edit: And I'll be waiting for your strawman that I want Golden gone. I'm sure it's coming.

Well then act like you do keep up with your team. I've had season tickets since 1981 so this sure as **** isn't my first rodeo. It took Butch 5 years to get to that Sugar Bowl game to beat up those Gators on Bourbon street and then stomp them on the field. Have you forgotten the Syracuse game where Miami got beat by Syracuse 66-13? The fans were brutal on that man and you claim the fans didn't run him off? The fans had no vision then and continue to have no vision to this day.

You wanted someone to convince you why Golden should stay after this. Are you unaware that there's 55 true Sophomores or younger on the roster? You do realize all the upperclassmen left after last season correct? Did you forget walk on's were playing at WR the last spring game? Did you forget all of the DT's are true Sophomores or younger because the last coaching staff didn't recruit DT's? Same went for LB's and DB's. You do realize when Golden took over Jacory Harris and Stephen Morris were the only QB's on the roster and Jacory led the nation in INT's and was in his final season right? Golden took over and the NCAA investigation was dropped on him like Hiroshima but that's just an excuse right? That shouldn't be a distraction at all. The typical fan on here would have no problem working through that while trying to overhaul the roster with quality recruits, overhaul the strength and conditioning program, and get the team to buy in to the new system.

Like I said, if you follow your team so closely then act like it. Pretend like you've been through a rebuild before.

One other thing, please don't mention Golden in the same breath as Randy. They're not even the same galaxy when it comes to coaching. If they were Gabe Terry and company would have vanished to a doghouse never to be heard from again, think Tommy Streeter.
