OK, convince me why Golden should still be here after this.

it should be noted that most of the guys who have been truly awful are Golden's guys.

It should be noted that if we had lost to VT last week and beat UVA this week I would be nowhere near as concerned about our future. It isn't that we lost, it's who we lost to.

LOL. Golden's "guys" are all freaking freshman and true sophs! Does ANYONE in this fanbase understand that? If we're expecting Golden's "guys" (freshmen and sophs, mind you) to carry this team at this point, less than 2 seasons into his tenure here, we're in deep *****!!!!....oh...wait...that's exactly what we're doing...it's shocking that we're a 0.500 team under these circumstances! I'm shocked and chagrined! Mortified and stupefied!

And this guy is worried that we lost to UVa instead of VT...yet, we were underdogs in the game, on the road, fielding a team full of underclassmen and under-talented, under-achieving upperclassmen who wouldn't be starting for FIU. Go figure. Mmmmkay.

Wait, so we were supposed to lose because vegas said we should? Using vegas as your defense as why we should be bad is really weak. This isn't pre-season, we have played 10 games and we are playing in a very weak ACC. I actually watched the games.

How long did it take you t know Coker wasn't the HC we needed, Shannon?

Why would you start a thread to convince you of something you're dead set on? We get it, you want Golden fired prematurely.

Questioning Golden = Want Golden fired prematurely.

There are some mental giants in this thread. I'm outta here, yet again.

No, I don't think the fans do have the right to question scheme or play calling right now. This is a rebuild from scratch that started this year. Last year the coaches were just getting by with what they had left over from the last regime. Most of those players are long gone and this team is the youngest in the nation. You can't run man defense right now and expect success especially when all of your D-line is true Sophomores or younger for the most part.

If you think our fans didn't run Butch off then I beg to differ. I'm sure that plane that flew over the OB with the banner that read "From National Champs to National Chumps, Thanks Butch" was engrained in his mind when he told everybody he was going nowhere and 24 hours later he was on his way Ohio. Miami fans are an instant gratification bunch of know it all's who know nothing and have no vision.

Like I said, sit back and enjoy watching this coaching staff develop these kids. Player development has been absent from this program since Butch left. History has a way of repeating itself and a young fiery coach like Al Golden is exactly what makes Miami successful. Coach D will end up going down as one of the best DC's this program has ever had. You may think you know but you don't.

Inb4 someone says this is a message board..... Lol.

It is a message board. We are also supposed to be fans who keep up with our team. The fact is Golden took over a .500 football team and all the upperclassmen left after last season. Now he's got a roster of 55 true Sophomores and Freshmen that are fighting like **** but haven't put it all together. Being unrealistic and calling for coaching change at this point of a rebuild is beyond insane.

You do realize your on a Canes specific board that is an offshoot of another board some of the same posters that have been posting since 97'?

So yeah, I think we keep up with our team. I've heard these same comments from the Randy crowd. Just wait till he gets his guys in here. Then we will see.

Funny thing is Golden has the same or close to the same record as Randy did at this same point.

Well then act like you do keep up with your team. I've had season tickets since 1981 so this sure as **** isn't my first rodeo. It took Butch 5 years to get to that Sugar Bowl game to beat up those Gators on Bourbon street and then stomp them on the field. Have you forgotten the Syracuse game where Miami got beat by Syracuse 66-13? The fans were brutal on that man and you claim the fans didn't run him off? The fans had no vision then and continue to have no vision to this day.

You wanted someone to convince you why Golden should stay after this. Are you unaware that there's 55 true Sophomores or younger on the roster? You do realize all the upperclassmen left after last season correct? Did you forget walk on's were playing at WR the last spring game? Did you forget all of the DT's are true Sophomores or younger because the last coaching staff didn't recruit DT's? Same went for LB's and DB's. You do realize when Golden took over Jacory Harris and Stephen Morris were the only QB's on the roster and Jacory led the nation in INT's and was in his final season right? Golden took over and the NCAA investigation was dropped on him like Hiroshima but that's just an excuse right? That shouldn't be a distraction at all. The typical fan on here would have no problem working through that while trying to overhaul the roster with quality recruits, overhaul the strength and conditioning program, and get the team to buy in to the new system.

Like I said, if you follow your team so closely then act like it. Pretend like you've been through a rebuild before.

One other thing, please don't mention Golden in the same breath as Randy. They're not even the same galaxy when it comes to coaching. If they were Gabe Terry and company would have vanished to a doghouse never to be heard from again, think Tommy Streeter.

I won't compare Golden to Randy, don't you compare Golden to Butch. Butch rebuilt this team while on probation. The verdict is still out on Goldens talent evals in the recruiting world. Lets hope and pray he is even close to Butch in that regard!

Come on now, that isn't even close to what I said. I'm not allowed to question the HC? And if I do, I want him fired?

I'm not seeing what Golden brings to the table anymore.

His strengths are recruiting and development.

We should get a better picture of this in year three.

That said, who are our 7 best players on defense?

Here's my list in no particular order:

1. Porter
2. McGee
3. Pierre
4. Chickillo
5. Perryman
6. Johnson
7. Bush

Is it a coincidence that 5 of our 7 best players on defense are 1st or 2nd year players?

The title of the thread is "Ok, convince me why Golden should still be here after this...". That's questioning Golden? If Golden isn't here "Miami" then where is he exactly? Explain it to me as if I'm a mental giant.

The point, which went about a mile over your head, is that Vegas thought the game was essentially a toss-up. Vegas thought that we were essentially on the same level as UVa, giving them some nod for being at home. The only people who don't realize that we're a mediocre team, on a similar level as the rest of the very weak ACC, is the delusional fanbase. Losing to UVa, or any other FBS team, should not shock anyone because we aren't good. If you were really watching the games, you'd know that, too.

I wanted Coker gone after the Fiesta Bowl. Shannon...eh, I was rooting so hard for him to succeed...I agreed with the timing of letting him go.
It's pretty telling if it took you that long to decide Shannon was in over his head.

edit: And I'll be waiting for your strawman that I want Golden gone. I'm sure it's coming.

Oh, I pretty much knew he was in over his head before he got the job. I hated the Shannon hire, because I thought we needed a totally clean slate and someone with a track record for rebuilding and developing talent. That said, he's a Cane, and I don't get to decide who gets hired. Once they hired him, I very much wanted him to succeed just like I would whoever was the coach. The fact that he's a Cane perhaps clouded my judgment for awhile, but there's no question that he deserved to be fired.

So we are waiting to see if he is actually Butch part two. And the signs are positive to this point...

I guess I need to just embrace that and move on.

I would say that Goldens most important quality at the moment is his ability to interact with players, media, parents, Miami big wigs, and NCAA officials.

Hes doing a monumental juggling act at the moment, especially for a guy new to the area and situation.

I guess that's why I have excused him a little bit for on the field mistakes. I think he's the perfect guy to be navigating this minefield we are in right now but we will see how it works out in the end. The way he has handled recruiting and off the field business with what's going on has been pretty impactful for the near future of this program.

Agreed, He gets huge kudo's in that regard.

I use to be an eternal optimist, the Canes over the last 10 years has done me in...

Make a substantive argument and quit attacking the fan base.

You're being a hypocrite. You've made several personal attacks on me. And you're a Mod?

Please point those out? If I did, that wasn't my intention.

You can read your own posts. And your intentions were crystal clear.

So that would be a no. You can't point them out because they don't exist.

No, that would be a "do it your own damned self".

Can't blame you there man. I'm ******* tired of waiting myself. I wanted to punch a baby after the game on Saturday too but right now this just isn't a week to week program and I have to remind myself of that every once in a while. Sucks but it's how it is at the moment.

I never compared Golden to Butch. I mentioned the plane flying over the OB with the banner that read "From National Champs to National Chumps, Thanks Butch" while Butch was putting together the greatest CFB team of all time while our fans dumped on his head. I would compare Golden to Jimmy Johnson before I compared him to Butch. Both have Masters in Sports Psychology and great hair. I think Golden will compared to all of our great coaches once all is said and done. Miami is going to be very good real soon.

Well, I do think there is something to be said for the precarious state of the roster Golden inherited thanks to Randy Shannon's last couple of years here. We might as well have been on probation.

I can agree with this.

Still skeptical that he is the guy to bring us back to national relevance, but perhaps he can be our Zook or Shula (+being a good face for the program with sanctions impending). Even if he ends up under-performing with the talent he brings in, he might make the program more appealing to big name coaches should the day come where we need to hire them again.

If Golden fails I wonder if UM will change its strategy of going cheap with coaches, looking for young talent for a big risk/big reward type of deal. I don't know if we have the money to go after big name coaches, but I wouldn't be as sure as the rest of the fanbase is that we absolutely don't have the money. We already know that the University had no problem paying Coker a decent salary (more than Golden gets right now) when he won a championship. I hope we don't have to find out.

Well said!!!

10 years of Coker and Randy and we may as well have been on probation. Golden took over with no WR's, a depleted RB corps, no DB's, no DT's, and no LB's. But yet Golden is supposed to be making chicken salad out of chicken crap in year 2 when after year 1 he lost all his upperclassmen? Our fans are unrealistic...
