OK, convince me why Golden should still be here after this.

I am NOT equating Golden to Shannon.

However, how familiar does all of this sound? "The cupboard is bare guys! We have a punter playing WR guys! Our talent is just too young"

Again, this is why it is stupid to take a side either way and why it's perfectly reasonable to be skeptical/question Golden so far.

Randy had never been a HC before or built a program and couldn't put together a coherent sentence. He stood like a silent statue on the sidelines and built a doghouse that no player could ever get ever get out of. Let's not compare anything Golden is doing to what that incompetent stooge did.

Golden built a Temple program into a solid team that fought hard and played high IQ football with two star players nobody wanted. He's going build a monster at Miami.

I'd also like to know why Golden came in without excuses, saying he wants to win right away and he now falls back on the youth excuse. It reeks. Same as Dorito claiming we would have a philosophy of "players not plays" when the exact opposite has occurred.

This.

Do you find it acceptable that both the head coach and defensive coordinator have coached completely contrary to how they said they would in the beginning? How do you rationalize Golden coming in here like a big shot, claiming that we can win now and now falling back on the old youth excuse. How do you rationalize Dorito claiming we would be "players not plays" when he runs a scheme that is completely unlike anything most of our recruits are used to?

I guess you expected Golden to come in and say he expected us to lose until the roster was back on track? Yeah that would work well with Miami fans.

Coach D is running a scheme based on players not plays. That's why the defense is bend but don't break right now. These kids don't have a grasp for an aggressive attacking style of defense right now. Hate to break it to you but Coach D's defense was very aggressive and attacked like crazy when he was at Temple. Try that right now with this defense and we'll be blown out of every game then you guys will really be after him. **** whenever we have gone man to man that's when big plays have been given up. These coaches are damned if they do and damned if they don't right now with our instant gratification know it all fans.

No. These kids don't grasp a zone-based, 2 gap defense since they actually DO play an attacking style of defense when they are in high school. I guess Tracy Howard wasn't the #1 press man corner in the nation. Our DL? Yeah, they all play a hold the point of attack, 2 gap system in high school.

Watch that video and legitimately tell me that defense is aggressive and doesn't look like the same exact scheme.

Miami has been in every game this year except for KSU and ND "both undefeated" with the youngest roster in CFB. That's coaching!

The defense should be much better next year and the offense should be able to score on anybody. I think the team will be very tough to beat next season.

That coaching left two wins on the field, but I get your point. You have more faith in this staff going forward than I do. The one thing they haven't done is out coach the other team.

Never understood this. When we lose we got out coached, when we win we were just better?

We have won 3 games this year where we were underdogs.

From my viewpoint our talent isn't as bad as some of you make it. The right adjustments and we have two more wins.

NFL Scouts, the Phil Steels's of the world, and Vegas would all disagree.

So let me get this straight. If we lose the next two games I should remain calm, cool, and collected because Vegas, and Phil Steele says we don't have talent?

I should wait till they actually predict us to have a winning record before I should actually expect that?

No, I'm saying you (like a ton of other Canes fans) think our talent is better then it is because they have the U on the side of their helmets. Most unbiased observers (scouts, Vegas, etc) see that we aren't any better then the UNC, UVA, NCSt, GTechs of the world (all games that were underdogs in). We have 1 Sr that will get drafted. If all the Jr class left early this year, who would get drafted? Henderson, Linder, Porter and that's about it.

This was essentially rebuilding from scratch when Golden took over and he's currently doing it with a giant NCAA cloud over his head.

That Defense held Penn State to 14 points? Way to prove your point!

I watched the video and the first few plays was the D-line getting pressure on the QB with 3 linemen and blocking a pass by the QB. Did you watch the highlights of that game?

You guys are really reaching to find faults in a coaching staff that is trying to rebuild out program from the gutter.

You said nothing to refute my point. Tell me how that scheme is what you call an aggressive scheme. Corners playing 10 yards off? Check. Very little blitzing? Check. DL shooting the gaps? Lol.

Basically what you are telling me is that just because the DL got pressure on the QB a few times, it makes their defense an aggressive scheme. Weird. I guess by that logic, any defense on any given day can run an aggressive scheme.

In sum, you didn't refute my point with scheme, but rather on the premise they got pressure on the QB a few times.

Again, remind me what South Florida high schools run such a system. Remember, this all started because you claimed that we run a players, not plays philosophy. Last but not least, Temple lost that game. So not sure why you are cheerleading (rather grasping for straws) about a Temple loss, in an attempt to side-step the real issue. I'm sure everyone in that locker room was like "LOL GUYS WE ONLY GAVE UP 14 POINTS AT LEAST"

And no, I don't think he ever will run man, considering this scheme goes all the way back to Golden's days at UVA.

Diego fair enough. We don't see eye to eye on this, but thanks for being civil.

Good point. I think this is going to take longer to get answers that many of us want. I've been a big believer in Golden since he took the Temple job but I have a few things timeline-wise in my head that must happen going forward if I'm going to stay on board with him.

Who cares what highschools are running in South FL? Coach D is bringing in an NFL multiple front defense. This is NFL U where our players are going to be ready to take the next step to the next level. You're basically saying water down the playbook because South FL can't grasp this defense.

Also, Miami got by on being able to get after the QB with the front 4. Where do you guys come off claiming that all of these blitz packages were used? Miami played a very conservative Tampa cover 2 forever. This defense once fully installed will have way more blitz packages. I also scratch my head at people who don't want to incorporate the 3-4 in certain situations like 3rd and long. The 3-4 gives the DC way more versatility to blitz than the 4-3. Once this defense has a true Nose the skies the limit. Having EJ, Kirby, Perryman, and Paul in their together will give opposing QB's fits.

Again, you posted a video of Temple holding Penn State to 14 points with two star talent. Once Coach D has this defense rocking with South FL talent and the offense is clicking Miami is going to be very good. Rome wasn't built in a day. Embrace the change because Golden and Coach D aren't going anywhere no matter how much you kick and scream.

solid point about the 3-4 giving way more looks to blitz in a 3rd and long. Also a solid point about miami being traditionally famous for pressure with the dline. We ran the tampa 2 for a long time and were successful with it. I hope they incorporate alot more blitzing if we can get a decent dline. Would be nice to dictate to the offense what they have to do

The D-line will be fine once we're not relying on true Sophomores and Freshmen to get it after it. When you blitz you're leaving holes in the defense. This young defense hasn't even fully grasped the playbook yet. When we have blitzed this season those holes have been exposed because aren't getting the pressure we need. The problem isn't scheme. The problem is lack of experience and depth in a brand new complicated system. The answer sure as **** isn't to water down the playbook. Coach these kids up and set them loose.

The Duke thread link was to show Miami has the all time leading all purpose yard freshman in the nation. Golden is slowly but surely putting these players in position to succeed in a big way. Defense is coming along but they took a step backward against UVA which was to be expected when Perryman, EJ, and Bush are out. Coach D is going to have the defense getting after it. Give him time...
