Is everyone off of Morris' jock yet?

I am a tremendous Morris fan. I think our fans are looking for greatness from him, when he is not that. Not only is he the best we will have this and next year, he is the best we have had in some time.

While he still has issues, the guy has a lot of good. I am willing to take the good with the bad NOW. I just wish that our players started catching the ball more often...DYE!!!

While our receivers need to catch better, the vast majority of the blame goes to Morris. Other than a pretty long ball, he's showing nothing right now. He seems to think that short passes are supposed to be thrown really hard into the ground at the feet of the receivers. He also tries to squeeze balls into covered receivers when there are wide open receivers on the field, often close to the covered receiver that he chooses to throw to.

We know about the WR/TE issues and the drops. I also think Morris needs to make better reads and see the field better. I think a lot of this is correctable but I am no expert. Our offense looks a little out of sync (to put it nicely), I think all round they need a lot of work on timing and rhythm.

The good news is on the Mike James TD, Morris checked down and found the open man. He also threw a change up to him instead of a fast ball.

There is no need to blame anyone, we just need work IMO.

there is plenty of blame for the offense's performance that falls squarely on morris' shoulders as he has done nothing but regress over the course of the season. we just played our 9th game of the year coming off of a bye week and he was even worse. and of all people to call out for a drop, you call out dyron dye? the kid is a converted defensive end who's only in there because our other tight ends don't know how to block. our receivers can barely handle the bullets that morris throws on short routes as it is, let alone our blocking tight end.

I said this in the WEZ- Morris looks like a guy who falls further behind the speed of the game the more he experiences. His mind is having serious issues processing all of the stimuli in rapid succession. He's regressing at an alarming clip.

When your OC can coach up a broken-down Jacory Harris, but can't coach up a fully functional physical specimen who keeps making the same mistakes, it's a talent issue.
Morris isn't that good.

Even as a Freshmen Jacory showed a feel for the game that Morris never has.

Morris is missing that intangible "feel" for the game.

He panics out there. How do you throw a fade route into the second row?

This.

The kid has tons of heart, and good athleticism, but he doesn't have the feel for the game to be more than a middle of the road qb.

He's serviceable enough to get us through this year and next while the young qbs get groomed.

You are right converted players should not catch a ball that hits them squarely in the mitts.

You guys have your right to an opinion, as I have mine. The offense doesn't look that good, I know Morris is the leader out there and it is his team but I don't think it is 100% on him.

I will say this Morris threw that pass to Mike James for the TD on a check down, the speed was perfect. Baby steps.

He played awful in the 2nd half no doubt but he was **** good in the 1st. The back shoulder to Hurns and the double move to Dorsett are 2 throws not a lot of college QBs can make.

He's just wildly inconsistent, like the entire offense. He deserves some of the blame for the offense struggling but so does our OL inability to run block, WRs drops, and Jedds mixed bag of play calling (at times). Morris needs to work on his footwork but I still have hope for the kid.

I agree with this.

I hope he progresses in the off season and we see more consistency next year or its going to be another bumpy ride. The short throws being into the dirt 50% or more of the time is maddening. Pocket presence and touch also maddening but the short stuff that's wide open he always manages to miss? That kills us more than the play calling IMO.

our wr's are mediocre

Mediocre at BEST!! Need a immediate play make to emerge, not just one that decides to pop up every 25 downs.
I hope AJL can be that guy…..fingers crossed
If not him then i hope Travis Johnson or Dobard can get it done

how long can you take baby steps with him? how many games does he have to start until you finally say it's on him? he's started 14 games and played in 20 total games. he's 7-7 as a starter and has shown consistent regression. he's inconsistent, inaccurate, he can't read a defense, still locks on to receivers, has no touch, and has no pocket presence. he's a junior with plenty of experience he's not good. point-blank period.

as for dye? i don't expect him to catch the ball because the ball should never be thrown to him. and when the ball is thrown to him, his quarterback has to know that he can barely catch a soft pass, so throwing a fastball (that even his better receivers struggle to catch) is probably going to be a drop.

Not me. I still think he can be good.

He was good in the 1st half, just miserable in the 2nd. Still no TOs and that's big. Problem with the O is his inconsistency, no run game, and inconsistent play calling. Lots of work to be done

I agree that he could be good, but he has much further to go than I originally thought. Plamer kept pointing out the missed reads he was making, missing wide open receivers running free. Things like that can't happen. He got happy feet and the problem was VT's pass rush was virtually non-existent IMO. Our OL, for as bad as they are run blocking at times, have given Morris time all season.

I said it before and I'll say it again: Morris is a one trick pony. He has an incredibly strong arm that allows him to heave the ball down field with ease. But he has no touch on short passes, no pocket presence, bad mechanics, horrible accuracy, and he routinely stares down his primary receiver while other receivers are wide open. As others have stated, it is what it is. He's a back up forced into a starter role by default.

It may take another off-season, he may never get it. He may win the final four games. We will see. So you have decided that Morris can't win, can't lead us to the ACC Champ or BCS Game? I just don't think it is all on him. Side note we saw last night him throw touch passes, we saw the Mike James TD, we saw the pass to Hurns for the TD on the back shoulder. He can do it, not sure why he can't do it all the time but he can do it. Also on that same Mike James play he checked down and dumped it to James.

As for inaccuracy on the deep ball, he had that before with Dorsett now for some reason he is having trouble. I don't know why, maybe lack of confidence.

If a WR/TE gets hit with the ball in the mitts, catch the ball PERIOD. Your right, don't expect Dye to do much but given that exact route lobbing the ball to the sideline would have meant that he would have ran his route out of bounds. He needed to throw a normal ball there to get it to him before he ran out. Rewatch the play, it is the correct pass just a ****** TE trying to make a play.

I think Morris is his own worst enemy and tries to do too much at times, I think this can be corrected.

that's why you don't throw that ball to him. part of being a quarterback involves knowing the personnel around you, strengths and limitations. if it was only dye that dropped a ball, then yeah, i'd put it completely on him. but when all of your receivers struggle to catch a bullet, it's probably time to take a little bit off of the pass.

i'm not saying that morris can't win, because he can. but the reality is, he's not a d1 quarterback. he has d2 accuracy, iq, consistency, and touch combined with a d1 build and an nfl-caliber arm. his arm strength and size are the only reason he's on the roster in the first place. look who he was recruited by: central michigan, uconn, florida (no scholarship offer), fiu, ole miss (no scholarship offer), northwestern, purdue, ucf, uva, and us. uf and ole miss looked at him and knew that he doesn't have the goods so they didn't offer. everyone else on the list is subpar or average at best (yes, including us).

I guess we will have to agree to disagree especially on him not being a D1 QB.
