If true brace yourself

This is extortion by the NCAA I put the statute up in a another post. You cannot threaten someone to testify or you will assume they are guilty and impugn their reputation. Thats extortion pure and simple.

This is beyond stupid for Enforcement to put that in a letter. If the COI has any true independence and objectivity, the letter does nothing but undermine the legitimacy of the investigation. Honestly, if Enforcement actually identifies a specific ex-player in the Notice and concludes that that player committed infractions based solely on the word of Shapiro and that player's refusal to acquiesce to Enforcement's threat, the NCAA better hope that that player in fact committed that infraction. Because if he didn't, there actually may be a lawsuit. This is beyond the pale. The NCAA has officially jumped the shark.

This is a clear violation of Florida State Law.

Watch and see. This violates Florida Statues, even if it doesn't violate NCAA rules. Each person who got that letter should contact the State Attorney General, and then sue that Florida Gator ***** with a PERSONAL defamation lawsuit.

And THEN, the University should be calling the Attorney Generals office.

You can't make threats against anyone that may damage their reputation if they don't do something.

(Glad no one wants to know anything about my college years. Can't remember much of anything. And NO ONE can MAKE me!)

I think the school knew about these letters sent to players before it was reported yesterday. It just went public today. IICRC players were talking about letters being sent to them to respond months ago. I think what happened was they sent a final letter saying deadline is Friday, talk by then or we gone believe Shapiro. A player then may have emailed a copy to Barry Jackson to report it through the media so everyone could see what the NCAA is trying to do. Which may very well hurt the NCAA case now that this went public. NCAA may very well have nothing and by the administration imposing 2 post season bans and Golden imposing scholarship reductions what punishment the NCAA comes up with will be minor because of the already self imposed sanctions.

I've emailed Lebatard, J.A. Adande, and Tony Kornheiser in the hopes that someone will pick this up in the national media. I know Adande and Bomani Jones have already commented on it in twitter so we'll see what happens.

Hopefully they see that it's un-american. Innocent until proven guilty. SMH.

Why do several of you think that the general public will be on our side in this? Most people thought we were a bunch of thug cheaters before this, so I am not really sure why they would be on our side in this.

Hopefully the general public sees that basic rights are being violated

“If we do not hear back from you or your clients by that time, the staff will consider the non-response as your client’s admission of involvement in NCAA violations.

Everyone who receives such a letter should timely respond to Ms. Richman with a brief letter simply stating, generally, that "my client does not admit involvement in the alleged NCAA violations."

If the NCAA want to play this b.s. game to try and skirt the limits of its jurisdiction, it should not be very difficult for those with legal counsel (or just a bit of sense) to kill that noise. As bad as it would seem if the NCAA uses this 'admission by silence' tactic as a basis to rely upon the allegations of a felon and well-known con artist, it will look that much worse to have to say 'well, yeah they responded to our letter, and its true they said they don't actually admit anything, but since they wouldn't meet with us, testify under oath, and bow to our every demand, we're still going to rely on the convicted liar.'

If people think this through and perhaps work together (instead of panicking for no reason), this will not have the effect the NCAA apparently hopes it will. Frankly, it looks like a desperation move and it should be treated accordingly.
Perfect. Although it would be my nature to tell them to "go fùck themselves", your wording would work.

Most people love to hate us. But, they also don't generally like bullying, extortion, and the NCAA.

I act surprised.

### My opinion: Regardless of whether it's bluffing or not, the NCAA - by sending this letter to former players - is being heavy-handed and manipulative. Considering the NCAA has no jurisdiction over former players, it's offensive that it would threaten to believe a convicted felon without additional corroboration. A felon, for that matter, who's in jail for a crime involving lying (a Ponzi scheme)
