When Chad and Moten and company we are bringing in are physically ready to play and the defense still looks like this then you know there is a problem.
are you saying we can't determine there is a problem with the defense until the 2016 season?
jesus christ i hope the people that are in the decision making positions don't agree.
Exactly.
Golden's timeline keeps getting pushed further and further.
"We won't know until the 2014 class is physically read to play." Kiss my ****ing ***.
I don't know who is pushing the time. I've been telling my friends since before the season that we're probably still two recruiting classes away from being able to really compete with the top teams. We just don't have the stockpile of talent and depth yet, and the lack of depth hampers player development as well. Some people may have had expectations that we'd be farther along sooner, but that's not necessarily pushing the timeline. That just might be evidence of a need to adjust unrealistic expectations.
None of that means that we should have played the way we did against VT. That was an abomination. But, it does mean that we're still at risk of dropping a game to a team that we should beat and sometimes struggling against teams we should handle. That happens to good (not great) teams every year.
Bottom line is that the staff still has a lot of work to do on the recruiting trail and, in the meantime, has to figure out how to have us stop playing like we did against VT and struggle as much as we have against other lesser opponents. I can see factors that would contribute to some of that VT performance but, at this point, regardless of any of those factors, we should not look that bad and make that cruddy VT offense and QB look that good.
Watching that VT game, I was developing PTSD from the flashbacks of Virginia 2007--and that just got me ****ed because I wasn't back at the OB, which only added insult to injury.
Oh, and not that it changes anything I said, but I do think Morris is hurt more than the staff is letting on. By now, that ankle injury probably has him struggling with his hip too and that would make it even harder for him to plant and throw. I'm thinking that may be why he missed Coley short against FSU and why he has struggled more with his accuracy, especially on long throws, where he normally excels. Just a guess, but he hasn't looked right to me and, while some certainly is on him, I don't think all of it is regression or play calling.
