Not so sure I would agree. Historically Miami has had more success ( 5 NCs) than Oregon in football. Better local recruiting base. Better location. Bigger tv market.
Any coach would look at this job, with the current level of financial commitment, as a destination job.
As great as all these changes are, Oregon already operates in a manner that UM is striving for. That Nike $ has kept a school, with no local recruiting base, competitive in the Pac12. And, just about everything he'll change/improve on in Coral Gables (ex: S&C), he's already addressed in Eugene.
Mario offers us a very unique situation. He not only can attract recruits, but also has attracted some big $ donors who are vested in seeing him succeed here at UM. He, also, can and, apparently has, leveraged UM into making a financial commitment to its football program like we've never seen before. To me, this is what excites me about MC the most, is he already has the pull to make some serious changes to this football program. And, with his experience from Bama and Oregon, as a fan, I expect him to incorporate alot of what he saw in Tuscaloosa and Eugene, in Coral Gables.
Besides, being HOME, I don't know what else would draw him here. But, I completely understand why he would want to 'come home'. Especially when you consider he has a sick family member he's close to.
Historically, I agree, UMs football program has had more success. But today, Oregon is a better job, imo. They are a more stable program with a clear direction. They have more talent, but a terrible QB.
