Time to Dial Back the Luke Nickel Love?

Yeah after watching him blow through one of the toughest football states and then go almost perfect in the state final i sat back and said "Yeah I'm just not impressed" LOL

OMG we have some of the worst posters ever on this board. We got one guy saying our Freshman QB who has basically just moved in and started practicing a month ago is a bust and another one saying a kid (who I like a lot as a QB) who got out played by our Freshman WR who had to play QB is better than Nickel right now. WOW

I thought Grassy had some bad posters but CIS is on a whole other level.
Exactly. Literally *****ing about our 4th string QB not being CFP ready day 1 is insane. But that’s the greatness of CIS. Every player we sign is a generational talent. Or when they dominate greentree, they are a greentree AA. Then when they don’t dominate let’s send out the sos signal. CIS is a beautiful place of paradoxes and mental gymnastics.

I mean Lake has been at practice, so I value his opinion more than say....yours. And if we are indicting Emory and Judd while also saying that Nickel is clearly behind both of them, doesn't that mean we should, by definition, dial back some of the praise?

I didn't call the kid a scab, just felt like speculating that maybe hyping a non-elite high school quarterback was a bit premature.
Such a **** fact free take , he won a national player of the year award and was Mr. football for the state of Georgia, so go **** off.

Four quarterbacks have been recruited to Miami by Shanon Dawson. Judd Anderson was the first. Then Cam Ward, Luke Nickel and Carson Beck.

I don’t think anyone was ever on the Emory Train. Just look at the play calling every time he played outside of mop up up duty. You’re usually not actively shopping for transfer starting quarterbacks if you like the guy you already have.
You’re giving Dawson credit for Ward and Beck? Lol That is a major reach considering he’s not the one who picked and went after them. Mario and Dennis deserve credit for them.

You don’t think Dawson was on the Emory train? Lol You’re wrong. Do you think we get Beck if the bowl debacle doesn’t happen? Emory was the next man up until that happened. After this spring, it was a blessing in disguise.

Let's not forget Dereon Coleman.

I gave 4 different website rankings for Nickel, plus his composite, and that moron cited his lowest ranking.

@MikeyCanez is the ******* Russian gymnastics judge.

I know you listen to Stern. Fred getting his mom this for her birthday and Howard just going on forever in that altered voice speaking like Cookie Puss - Classic

Such a classic bit!

And I'm an older guy now, but I still remember those Carvel TV commercials from my youth, when Tom Carvel himself would do the voiceover. Fantastic.

I wouldn't say "give him credit", but we did sign Ward and Beck while he was the OC. So the QBs themselves have to see themselves as a fit with Dawson, and Dawson has to utilize Ward and Beck to the best of their abilities. So I'll give Dawson half-credit, though you are correct that Mario/Dennis were the actual in-person recruiters.

As for whether Emory was truly beloved by Dawson...let's not forget that we made a huge play for Mateer BEFORE the Pop Tarts Bowl. Yes, we got Beck AFTER, but I think that all the coaches knew we needed someone else to start over Emory even before the debacle in Orlando.

Mateer and Beck were apples and oranges.

Fair point.

But we offered Mateer huge NIL to come and start over Emory. That is all.

No matter which coach has the original idea for who to recruit, we have targeted some top talent under Dawson and either landed them or come very close. Except for Judd.

Dawson may not be Dan Mullet, but UM is no longer QB kryptonite either.

Honest question, do they really practice as 1s and 2s and 3s this early in Spring Camp? Is that the explanation for why he only gets to throw to the walk-ons and not a mix of everyone?
everyone who has been to practice has said this. For me, I thought it was to work him in slowly, give him a chance to work the installs, etc.
Now, halfway through the spring, IMO, he should get a shot with the two deep. Maybe they are trying to keep both Emory and Judd on the roster. Who knows...

Here's the thing. WRs need practice too. We just lost our TOP FOUR wide receivers. As great as Nickel might be someday (or soon), the new WRs need a couple of QBs who already know the playbook to throw them the ball this spring.

I am excited for Carson Beck to play at UM, but this injury recovery definitely complicates matters.

The way Dawson called the game from the first snap was a sign how he felt. I think they truly hoped to have a bigger lead at the half. When it was only a field goal, the hope was to pick up a rushing td or two. That game certainly didn't go the way anyone wanted it to...

It does complicate things but if Beck is doing everything he can till he can go live then that's all we can ask for.... I mean I want him out there getting timing and such down with the line and other players but until then just learn that playbook backwards , forwards, sideways and everywhere inbetween....... and of course get healthy...
