Time to Dial Back the Luke Nickel Love?

@MikeyCanez
Who are these people that called Luke Nickel a “savior”? Can you produce some receipts?

There’s a massive difference between calling him a savior and simply being frustrated that Emory looked like fresh wet mierda in the bowl game. Your overuse of absolutes as superlatives is the biggest crime of this post.
I just typed Luke Nickel into the search pulled the first thread I saw: https://www.canesinsight.com/threads/luke-nickel-state-semifinal-hl.196496/

You tell me if that post isn't filled with the sunshine pumping. I merely think we can safely dial back the "most talented QB recruit we've had in the Mario ever and it isn't even close".

I know you know that is underselling what some people on this message board were trying to tell us about Nickel after high school state playoffs.
Don’t give me that ****

If you can’t use your own brain to form your own opinions don’t complain about what you were “sold”

Same people that still blame D$ for hyping up the team

So if they are truly that bad, it should probably be an issue that Nickel is operating behind them on the depth chart. And don't tell me that eight spring football practices isn't enough time to see a quarterback's talent when there are freshmen all over the country working the 1s at their respective schools.
8 spring football practices isn't enough time to see a quarterback's talent.... and knowledge of the playbook combined with reads and audibles out of and into other plays based upon the defenses schemes.

Who are the other freshmen all over the country working the 1's at their respective schools? In particular, who are the freshmen QBs all over the country working the 1's at the respective schools? Bryce Underwood? Maybe?

I am not being "sold" anything. I don't go to practice. I don't watch the HS highlight tapes. I read what is written in multiple places. Lots of people on here calling him the "quarterback of the future"...I pretty much just asked if maybe we should pump the brakes a bit.

You are though switching between hyperbole and straight meaning of language as you see fit to mold it to your narrative.

Side note - I hate the term "narrative" now. Please forgive me sweet Baby Jesus.

Those were silly takes though. The "throw Nickel into the deep end and conserve $$s for the following season" less silly but no more correct. We aren't poor. Whole issue became moot when we spent like drunken sailors to fix the defense; we were obviously going to get a portal QB.

It would be nice if Luke were ready to be our QB next year, but if not we'll just get another good QB from portal. With Cam making a kajilloon dollars coming here and Beck discovering Latina Honey, it shouldn't be hard

So you haven't seen him play football at any level, yet you thought it was a good idea to start a thread denigrating the kid?

¡Jesucristo!

Bryce Underwood, Julian Lewis, Keelon Russell, Deuce Knight, Jaron Sagapolutele just to name a few.

Every situation is different and those guys were all more highly rated and maybe the reporters are just pumping sunshine. But there are a lot of reports about how some of those guys are ahead of schedule while our prized freshman throws to walk-ons.

Denigrate? Deep breaths buddy, I merely asked if we should dial back all the praise from a bunch of dudes who watched a high school highlight tape and were ready to call him The QB of the future.

Who said he is a SAVIOR?
That was the word you chose for hyperbole. Show me who called him a savior?

Sunshine pumping does not equal savior. "Most talented QB recruit we've had in the Mario ever (sic) and it isn't even close" is actually a factually correct statement. Emory and Judd were both ranked significantly lower than Luke. It also is nowhere near savior.

Again, it's your misuse of language that is causing the uprising. Rather than throw rocks at you, I'm trying to point out the issue folks are having with your take.

Well, considering what a great judge you are based on your keen observation skills, that sounds reasonable.

I agree! And that is my whole point!

There were lots of silly takes about how good he was going to be based off a high school playoff run.

Turns out he is a pretty average freshman quarterback and will need a bunch of time to get acclimated and probably won't be ready this season!

I don't think that is so ******* controversial.

3rd graph is why you're catching so much grief.

Luke Nickel shouldn't have been considered as a starting QB option this year =/= your 3rd graph (edit: especially after 1 spring practice in pads)

Fair enough. People may not have used the word "savior" and I see your criticism.

I guess my overall point was that after watching his run through the HS playoffs, a lot of people were ready to anoint him the QB of the future. However, it now seems like he probably won't be ready and needs at least a year of seasoning.

He was always a good QB recruit and I am still glad we have him. I just thought the board got a little out over their ski tips on his immediate impact.

Every bit of what you posted is a distortion or an outright falsehood.

Name all the 17-year-old true freshmen "all over the country" working with the 1s after 8 practices at their respective schools. It's not happening. You just said it because nobody is going to take the time to check 100 programs to prove you wrong.

You're entitled to your opinion, but you're not entitled to lie.

Again, you keep conflating issues and moving the goalposts. I said the reason why people thought Nickel might START in SEPTEMBER was because of how bad Emory and Judd looked IN GAMES. Not practice.

And for a bunch of practices IN SHELLS, it is meaningless to "start" a 17 year old who is just learning the playbook. WHY? As I pointed out, WRs need practice too. It would be a waste of time to make Nickel the "in shells" starter, because if he botches 25% of his throws while learning the playbook, you've just wasted 25% of the WR reps.

It's like you've never played or watched football before. But, boy howdy, you SURE CAN listen to a Through the Smoke podcast. You are GREAT at that. Nobody better.

Exactly.

When we missed on Mateer and were in the pre-Beck time period, a lot of people expressed some desperate ideas for the QB position in 2025. For dopey @MikeyCanez to take that **** literally is just proof of his mental infirmity.
