I hope that's soon. I understand trying to ease him in but it has to be frustrating for him, tooAside from the last two (I've been out of town), I've seen every single practice for the non-media portion.
It is way too early to have any kind of opinion of Luke Nickel. He's been throwing almost exclusively to walk-ons. I'm looking forward to see him throw to some of our talented young receivers.
Kaaya wasn’t here for spring his fr year. He enrolled after spring and won the job in fall campWell how was our last true freshman starting QB in Spring practice Kaaya lol
He is 17 dude. Should be getting ready to go to prom. Literally should still be in HS. I played DIII so not a great comparison but I did not become “of age” until my Jr Year. He has a baby face and will take a while… but you can’t coach arm strength or smarts… he has bothI get it. This is a hater take. But are we finally ready to admit that we all anointed Luke Nickel as the savior way too soon?
Sure, it is still super early in his first Spring Camp and sure, he is super young and there is plenty of time for him to improve. But most of this fanbase was ready to call him the definite backup and QB of the future before he even stepped foot on campus. Now that he has been on campus, reading between the lines, there has been a lot of "well let's see him with better receivers" and "I think he still needs to adjust to the speed" and "its still early".
Through The Smoke went as far as to say that they don't think Miami's future starter is on the roster currently.
Of course I want to see him succeed and become an All-American and call me a hater if you want, but while we are all sitting here pumping Dereon Coleman's tires, I think it is worth trying to have a little perspective about our expectations. We all moaned about how Nickel deserved a fourth star and it sure sounds like after seeing him in practice that he was probably ranked correctly.
Coleman is a completely different player so perhaps I am comparing apples to oranges, but for me, this only cements that we should be on the Portal QB train every season so long as the good options are available.
I'd play him over Emory right now.
Portal QB next year then hand the keys to Coleman he is different
Its so over rated the whole they want to play for Riley or Saban BS narrative.....all you have to do is get the QBs consistently and then you become from CAVEMAN Mario to the IT QB school immediately. Just get them here and the rest works itself out, now with legit college film guys like Mateer and Ward aint hidden gems.....you see who is good you grab them its that simple. There isn't no scpecial sauce that those coaches were doing. Anyone can be called ancient until you get someone that can actually play QB.I know Dawson seems to really like Judd and that’s fine
I’d just like to see a scenario where we have Beck, portal, Luke
Then next year Portal, Luke, Coleman and if somehow Luke or Coleman truly are elite then maybe scrap the portal option
I find it odd he's one of three healthy QBs on the roster and is throwing to "almost exclusively" walk-ons. We saw how awful Emory was in the bowl and we know Judd is a major project. Seems like Nickel would be getting lots of reps with the WRs since we're now beyond the halfway point of spring practice.Luke Nickel. He's been throwing almost exclusively to walk-ons. These people out here using David ******* Lake as football gospel. Disgusting out here.A couple practices with the walk-ons is absolutely enough to make a decision. Dude is trash. Send him to the portal
I’ve said many times if you can go ahead and find a good high school QB that loves the U and doesn’t play any games or gets into bag wars then go get that kid (Nickel and Coleman seem that way)Its so over rated the whole they want to play for Riley or Saban BS narrative.....all you have to do is get the QBs consistently and then you become from CAVEMAN Mario to the IT QB school immediately.
