Time to Dial Back the Luke Nickel Love?

First of all, you are basing YOUR "dial back the praise" nonsense on the predictions and projections of dip****s like David Lake.

As for "dial back the praise", who really gives a ****? Has it impacted Nickel's development? Are some posters going to die from broken hearts because they issued too much praise?

Again, you haven't even addressed my point that the ONLY REASON anyone was "definitely ready to name Nickel the backup" was because our other choices were Emory and Judd. AGAIN, more of an indictment of Emory and Judd rather than an overpraise of Nickel.

Settle down and worry about things that are far more relevant and important. Like whether our new basketball GM can help get us back to Nike.
I mean Lake has been at practice, so I value his opinion more than say....yours. And if we are indicting Emory and Judd while also saying that Nickel is clearly behind both of them, doesn't that mean we should, by definition, dial back some of the praise?

I didn't call the kid a scab, just felt like speculating that maybe hyping a non-elite high school quarterback was a bit premature.

I get it. This is a hater take. But are we finally ready to admit that we all anointed Luke Nickel as the savior way too soon?

Sure, it is still super early in his first Spring Camp and sure, he is super young and there is plenty of time for him to improve. But most of this fanbase was ready to call him the definite backup and QB of the future before he even stepped foot on campus. Now that he has been on campus, reading between the lines, there has been a lot of "well let's see him with better receivers" and "I think he still needs to adjust to the speed" and "its still early".

Through The Smoke went as far as to say that they don't think Miami's future starter is on the roster currently.

Of course I want to see him succeed and become an All-American and call me a hater if you want, but while we are all sitting here pumping Dereon Coleman's tires, I think it is worth trying to have a little perspective about our expectations. We all moaned about how Nickel deserved a fourth star and it sure sounds like after seeing him in practice that he was probably ranked correctly.

Coleman is a completely different player so perhaps I am comparing apples to oranges, but for me, this only cements that we should be on the Portal QB train every season so long as the good options are available.

I ******* absolutely hate some of you
I’m not deleting this post.
And for the rest of you, this is how you post when you really disagree/hate what someone else posted. You make a general comment (see how he wrote “some of you”), which is not construed as a personal attack. Take notes folks. This is a master class in “how to make an insulting post that is not deleted by a mod”.

Well done.

Agree with your last statement. I'm in the camp of fill out the roster with elite HS recruiting. Plug holes/get depth through the portal. And go swinging for a top, experienced QB every year. The icing on top would be to get one who has more than 1 year of eligibility.

How can you continue to recruit quarterbacks When the quarterbacks, you recruit never get to play.?

Might Lake be proven correct about Nickel? Maybe. I'm just trying to understand his agenda in saying it right now. He knows that Nickel has had a handful of practices and less than 90 days with the playbook and receivers. What's the point in writing off Nickel's progression and saying 'Mami's QB of the future isn't on the roster'?

It's really odd how our own reporters make blanket statements about players that are heading into their 9th spring practice of their career.

I think people were excited about Nickel's potential compared to what we had in the room and know that his ceiling is higher than the other 2 there currently. I'm optimistic that at some point, Nickel will move into the number 2 spot on the depth chart before the 2025 season is over.

Guys, I basically don’t know anything about how Luke, who should be picking out his prom tux, is doing after a few light spring practices - other than what some nerd with zero football analytical skills has implied.

But let me go ahead and take a **** on any Luke optimism, and try to spike any praise he has received or will receive.

Why? So I can join the CIS psychopath club.

We suck again.

So you got all that with what 5-6 "practices" with no pads on? I remember last year after the Florida game some people were saying Lyles isn't an elite back, he just doesn't have it, then he went on to rush for 400 yards and showed explosiveness the rest of the season...and 400 yards for a TF as the 3rd RB is **** good.

Don't change CIS

I'm convinced a significant chunk of our fanbase actively hates the program and wants to see it fail, just because failure is more entertaining to them than anything else. Luke Nickel is a TRUE FRESHMAN, in his FIRST spring camp. Never mind the fact that he should be worrying about who he's taking to prom right now, not dealing with college classes, and adjusting to a college program.

Drawing conclusions based on a couple of weeks of practice in SPRING is a bit weird, especially seeing how we don't even know how the roster will look in a month, much less in the fall.

I don't know if Lake will be right or not but I'll give him credit for not wearing orange and green glasses like 99% of people hosting podcasts.
Or, he knows that being full of crap doesn't hurt him in the least. He can get credit for "Not being a homer" and if he's wrong(Which is quite often), no one will care because hey, the guy turned out to be a stud. If he's right, he gets to crow about being right.

This thread is waaaay too early.

Nobody is thrilled about the backup battle between Emory and Judd. That includes Mario and Dawson.

Nickel and Coleman are not perfect prospects. The negatives about Nickel aren't worth worrying about in March. If he's miles behind Emory and Judd in September, then I'll be concerned.

Have to think we were always headed back to the portal for 26.

This is the result of taking Jacurri (project), Emory (supposed to be second QB in his class) and Judd (cost free) in back to back to back classes.
