Time for Robby Washington to step up at CB

Huge respect for D$. But there is an 84 page thread on the Portal board more or less hosted by @Memnon which listed plenty of DB portal options including CBs. We brought in Meesh and Savion Riley at S and Hill at CB. There were a ton of other names that were equal or better options.

Guidry in his Monday presser said they started off the season down men at DB. He said it like it was someone else’s fault. I have been a huge fan of Guidry but that almost sounded like Gattass’s excuses about the O when he was OC. **** those excuses. He should have fixed that roster.

What ****es me off is it’s clear we have a championship offense. The reason we’ll lose games this season lies solely with Guidry, and everyone on here … EVERYONE … knew we were thin and lacking talent at DB.

Play Zay. If Mack and Day are healthy, start getting them folded in. Definitely work Robby in. They will make costly mistakes. But our current players are already making costly mistakes. At least the younger guys will learn and grow from them. Relying on JAGs just because they’re veterans is a certain path to failure.
Day is healthy, one of the better special teams players this year

Imma be real, seeing meesh in coverage doesn’t make me want to see him at nickel lol, but hey dp2 and oj outside could at least clear some worries but it could be disastrous with harris playing like a robot with a young inexperienced guy in zay.

Was meesh not one of the better players on a team that went to the national championship?

He didn’t all the sudden forget how to play football.

What did Washington do on defense that made him better? I didn’t watch enough. Was he in zone more often? Was he at CB or nickle?

Number one, he was at nickel the vast majority of his time at Washington last year.

He’s always just been a solid player, i wouldn’t say he was one of their best players or he would be in the draft imo. Him being in their system for multiple years probably helped for sure

The “he was on a natty team” so he is this and that was just typical off season ****

Brown should have stayed here and played with his bro. He jumped ship to go play for a sorry team. He could be starting here right now.

Cormani also screwed us over. And he played us well. Instead of going after another top flight corner, we thought we had him in the bag. Then he jumped ship and it was too late. That left a glaring hole in that CB class and we are seeing the effects of it right now. I guess he got the last laugh even though he is trash.
Brown? Like Davonte?

Lord we are in a bad way here

Robby doing exactly what is needed for this year. 5-10 snaps a game to get him used to playing the position as he transitions from WR.

I’ve got hopes for next year but he should not be seeing the field other than very small situations or blowouts.

This. If he's not going to be good in coverage, why on earth put him at nickel? Makes no sense.

As for RW, can someone clarify his eligibility? Did he RS this year and if not, has he already played in 4 games this year (I'm guessing STs)?

If you guys thought number 7 was suspect my boy @brock will have an aneurysm watching Davonte back there.

I know I will likely get clowned for this but with the depth being what it is in the back 7 would you get some reps with Restrepo back there or at least start getting him reps in practice in the event of an oh **** moment?

@Coach Macho coached the kid, I believe he thought he would be better on defense (correct me if I am wrong). I know Strep said a lot of his folks think he is a better safety than WR. And yes, I know he is our best WR, and no I dont want to tire him out or risk injury but if we are deep in the playoffs and getting torched or injuries mount, would you rather see a TF like Day or Mack back there or Strep?

Travis Hunter is clearly the best player for colorado and he goes both ways and is able to do it at a high level. I recall the patriots in the super bowl I think had to use a WR (edelman or troy brown going way back) on defense in a pinch so we have examples of it being done. Im just saying I dont really see a dominant team this year in CFB and I think if we are on we can win against anyone. Next year we lose the core of this team so time to win is now and no guy wants it more than Strep why not go all out?

The ****? Did you watch this game today? Only at Miami would we field a historically good offense simultaneously with a historically bad defense. Why not mix it up, as OP said.

Or let’s keep rolling with 50 point cam heart attack wins and hope it works out. Only at CIS…
What’s hilarious about all of this - unless the broadcasters were wrong - our DEF is either THE top unit in ACC play or close to it.

If so - the ACC is going to get absolutely TORCHED come Playoff/Bowl season
