Time for Robby Washington to step up at CB

I know I will likely get clowned for this but with the depth being what it is in the back 7 would you get some reps with Restrepo back there or at least start getting him reps in practice in the event of an oh **** moment?

@Coach Macho coached the kid, I believe he thought he would be better on defense (correct me if I am wrong). I know Strep said a lot of his folks think he is a better safety than WR. And yes, I know he is our best WR, and no I dont want to tire him out or risk injury but if we are deep in the playoffs and getting torched or injuries mount, would you rather see a TF like Day or Mack back there or Strep?

Travis Hunter is clearly the best player for colorado and he goes both ways and is able to do it at a high level. I recall the patriots in the super bowl I think had to use a WR (edelman or troy brown going way back) on defense in a pinch so we have examples of it being done. Im just saying I dont really see a dominant team this year in CFB and I think if we are on we can win against anyone. Next year we lose the core of this team so time to win is now and no guy wants it more than Strep why not go all out?
While it's an intriguing thought, this isn't CFB 25 where we can just swap him over.

As great as X has been for us at WR, I don't think attempting to get him to play both ways is any kind of solution for us. Travis Hunter has played both ways since he started college because he has elite tools for both CB/WR. X is an excellent athlete that's turned into an all-time Miami WR...but to ask him to play CB or S his Sr year addition to that?

Not clowning you, just saying in my mind...that's a no-go.

Oh I get it is outside the box and yes asking him to play in addition to that. He would take it absolutely head on. Which is why I used the troy brown and edelman examples of the patriots as I dont think either had elite tools for defense but they were smart players with great short area quickness like Strep. Sometimes as a coach you have to take a gamble. Aside from his defensive background I think it was on a recent thread where some guy was breaking down cam ward and they identified how Strep identified a blitzing S and changed his route and him and Cam were on the same page, that is what actually make me think he has the mental acumen to play. I think he understands defensive assignments more than we give credit for. Not a FS like Meesh calling the plays and doing all the checks but perhaps nickle or in the box.

Ultimately I agree with you and I think it has a 0.1% chance of happening but if there was a year to tinker with the lineup and try some CFP 25 **** this is it.

I can’t even imagine how bad Stafford must be that they keep sending out Richard’s and Hill.

really wish we would slide meesh back to slot and have Patterson and Williams at safety with Harris the first off the bench
Exactly what I've been saying. All in on Patterson, & Markeith Williams has looked good when he's been in. Can't be any worse than 7. Smells like some seniority bs

D$ and Peter have said many times the hardest players to get out of the portal are CB's. Come on man!!!

With FSU and UF ****ting the bed we should be tampering like crazy. Particularly FSU since for the most part that secondary has looked good. Well not Earl Little or Davonte Brown.

Conrad Hussey started and played really well last year as true freshman, and while his play hasn’t been as good this year, he supposedly has been dealing with a nagging injury. Edwin Joseph is another young player who has been getting more playing recently. Both are Miami guys who Mario pursued hard before signing day but couldn’t overcome Addae.

Focusing on LG in the portal last year was a mistake. We wasted that last visit in December on tate Udub player who ended signing with Ole Miss really looks bad looking back.

I was talking to you. But you reiterated my point. He shouldn't be a very good corner right now. He shouldn't even be a good corner right now realistically speaking. He's learning a new playbook and a new position from scratch no need to force that kid into that ****
You guys are on the same page, the way Jedd worded it came off as a criticism but it wasn’t meant that way, just a statement.

In no way reasonable to expect him to be all-league right now and where he’s at in his transition is where he’s at.

Robby Washington and Robert Stafford too. He was a highly sought after top 200 player that people forgot about because he committed to us so soon in the process and never wavered. He has everything you want in a CB as far as size and speed are concerned.

Disagree with that last part. This is the time where we keep rolling with our status quo. Unless it's a last freaking resort, you don't make a move like that one w/X unless you're in dire need. Even at that point, I'd probably keep X at WR and ask another WR lower on the depth chart to take one for the team and play some defensive snaps (i.e. - Trader or Ray Ray).

A WR calling out a blitzer doesn't mean they ought to be playing D. It means they watch tape and are well-prepared for their role as a WR.

Sidebar...stop calling him Strep please...lol. That's a bacterial infection, not a WR.

I feel like we are already close to the oh **** moment now. I see what you’re saying honestly. I’m never crazy about crucial players going both ways no diddy.

Travis hunter being an outlier, I just don’t like taking a great player on one side of the ball and making them just ok on both sides of the ball because they become stretched too thin. There are a good amount of players that can play both sides of the ball at the d1 level but you’re just going to wear them down.

In the hypothetical situation I wouldn’t move X, who is a critical part in the number one offense in the county to be a bandaid for the circus in our defensive secondary.

didnt he not play as much in the playoffs
Im not sure i cant find the snap count

You need a lot more than size and speed to play CB. (and actually size isn't that important).

Snaps went down in the playoffs but this being the most snaps he has played as a free safety after that many as a slot just shows how bad our portal db recruiting was

We took a guy who was primarily a slot and maybe we saw he wasn’t good enough there or we didn’t have a real free safety so we had to move meesh to fs and our best corner to the slot

Basically sounds like a patched together db room that we did the bare minimum to fix lol. **** lowers our ceiling so much

Edwin n Conrad id take

Both of em are tight with CJ Ewald n Zayquan Patterson.

He was targeted 26 times in 13 games. He didnr't have a single interception. Why you tag me with this garbage?

Just to show how wrong you were.

Mooyoung had a pick before OJ did I'm guessing he should've been starting since USF.

Porter was out best outside CB last year, just as OJ had been the best so far this year

Huge respect for D$. But there is an 84 page thread on the Portal board more or less hosted by @Memnon which listed plenty of DB portal options including CBs. We brought in Meesh and Savion Riley at S and Hill at CB. There were a ton of other names that were equal or better options.

Guidry in his Monday presser said they started off the season down men at DB. He said it like it was someone else’s fault. I have been a huge fan of Guidry but that almost sounded like Gattass’s excuses about the O when he was OC. **** those excuses. He should have fixed that roster.

What ****es me off is it’s clear we have a championship offense. The reason we’ll lose games this season lies solely with Guidry, and everyone on here … EVERYONE … knew we were thin and lacking talent at DB.

Play Zay. If Mack and Day are healthy, start getting them folded in. Definitely work Robby in. They will make costly mistakes. But our current players are already making costly mistakes. At least the younger guys will learn and grow from them. Relying on JAGs just because they’re veterans is a certain path to failure.
Me and. @Memnon consistently said all of this and consistently provided options to the portal board.

There is no reasons the folks who get paid couldn't see the glaring hole.

There also is no reason I could watch a guy game n pitbulls Dale stadium n see multiple DBS that would start here.

It's the reason my faith on their portal evals at DB this year is low again. We have multiple DBS portal in n leave the same semester which isn't good considering our rooms weren't good to begin with
