Time for Robby Washington to step up at CB

We knew we had problems, major problems in the secondary since Mario got here. We have just missed too many times via HS and the portal. Robby has some tools to works with but you can’t just drop a kid into playing CB at the P4 level like that with no experience playing the position and expect real results.

Was watching the last game with GT in atlanta and the amount of talent we had running around at DB is a stark contrast to now.. Seems like we just drained the talent and didnt restock, position has been neglected if we are being honest.

Also whats crazy was that passing defense that year was rough and could not run steele defense..

what goal post ive moved?. Ive stated the same thing over n over i dont want to have to put down another of our players just to say the dude did the same as him but he currently has a better covg grade (2023) than Frederique does.

This is our best outside tandem if they are playing Porter out wide so im GOOD with it honestly.

But yall been playing on Porter since he got here and hate to admit being wrong on it lol.

The crazy part is most of yall were the same ones that didnt want Frederique so its even more funny to see.

Well we’re finally going to see him outside if Meesh is moving to nickel as expected. So we have 3 games and hopefully several post season games to see how Porter does there most likely on WR1. We can all agree we hope he balls out!

The missed communication and guys WIIIIDE open every game is where you have to draw the line, there is a disconnect when you call a time out and the team comes out and still has multiple guys wiiiiiiiiiiide *** open. That means something is broken, because, fsu does it one week for TD and next week guy still wide open and everyone looks confused.

Coaches are seeing on film and next week they can execute same thing and KNOW their guys will be open because no one knows their rules and responsibilities. Guidry works with DBs. This is a mess.

Duke just dressed it up but same as fsu week before. Saddest part we called Timeout and in breakdown asking for another one, lol..

I didn't see the wide open guy in the slot watching it live but JAYZUS this is terrible coming out of a timeout.

we restocked it with 5 good freshman, one is starting and probably our best cover CB, another is starting to play a lot, 2 of them have been injured, plus Brown missing 10 games, DB will be a stong unit going forward stacking 2 good classes in a row

Yep. Coaches need to get players ready. Next man up, right? When you did not fill the gaps in the portal, your job is to prepare the roster you do have to play. Week 10 and we are seeing the same 3 players get abused.

Robby Washington, Bobby Washington, George Washington... get them ready to play.

9-0 Let’s go!!!

Me and. @Memnon consistently said all of this and consistently provided options to the portal board.

There is no reasons the folks who get paid couldn't see the glaring hole.

There also is no reason I could watch a guy game n pitbulls Dale stadium n see multiple DBS that would start here.

It's the reason my faith on their portal evals at DB this year is low again. We have multiple DBS portal in n leave the same semester which isn't good considering our rooms weren't good to begin with

Careful. I read in another post earlier today by a highly respected poster that us fans should just chill because coaches get paid to evaluate talent.

That had nothing to do with what I said. Porter had a GREAT season because other teams feasted on Davis, Williams l, Kinchens, Couch. Porter never looked like OJ while in coverage. He wasn't consistently beating his man to his spot. He wasn't consistently turning his head around looking for the ball. He was MOSTLY the beneficiary of having teammates out of position.
Cant u say the same for oj this year with our other dbs?

Porter also did what oj is doing last year too maybe u overlooked it

The second half of my post is the difference that I see. OJ benefits in the same way because the rest of the secondary is atrocious. I still see him better in phase and beating WRs on their routes and consistently turning his head around with the ball in the air.

All while having limited opportunities. I never viewed Porter as a shutdown corner at any point last year. Typically someone with those eye popping numbers receives some accolades. That and 0 preseason draft buzz indicate I'm not alone in my sentiment.

So do u view oj as a shutdown corner?

I think the being in phase with wrs and playing the ball is something porter consistently did last year too, he wouldn’t have had a high coverage grade if he didn’t and teams would have attacked him also if he wasn’t …thats why i think maybe u overlooked it

And i think if porter put another year like last year on film he would be getting some buzz now. Oj hasn’t really gotten much buzz either outside of us, it’s about the same imo

I guess we will find out this week both will be outside so GTech will test someone and hopefully our guy comes out on top I believe in them both. Also having meesh closer to LOS might benefit him since he is smart I’m hoping that helps with tackling

I didn't even consider it until he was challenged last week. I don't think he is a shut down corner yet, but I think his technique is textbook and he is fundamentally sound. PFF tells a story, it's never, ever, ever the full one. Shutdown corner is a label you can only earn by facing stiff competition. I don't see any opportunity to prove that in our next 3 games.

if your taking Hill over him you would be losing alot of games.

DP Jr is probably our best outside cb having to play nickel in the slot all year.

If they are smart and moving him back outside you will see the difference.

THE WHOLE DEFENSE SEEMS TO HAVE ISSUES WITH MOTION...seems to be a coaching problem.

Hes been sub par at nickel but i honestly think he has played out of position at that spot ..considering he didnt play that last year..and played outside over guys that are borderline nfl players currently.
Not trying to take a shot brother. Just pointing out I still see all the same flaws at outside that I saw as slot. At this point I don't see how everyone can't see the same. Buddy Is suspect.

DPJ is regressed
I guess possibly it's regression somewhat. Personally he's never impressed me and now with how bad this secondary is he's the one they're isolating. That should tell you a lot. Personally I can't wait till we get the youngins far more involved in the lb core and the secondary. I understand it comes with bumps and bruises. But if all we get is exposed weekly than how much worse could it get. At least let the defense grow together. That's the main thing I hold guidry responsible for. He's horrible with adapting to his personnel. Past that he constantly out thinks himself.

Why do we not get our hands on the WR at the LOS?
It really should be common sense. We need to slow down route development to give the line a chance to get home. We should be playing bump with inside technique the way they are spacing the field. ***** really tiring watching the incompetence we're doing on defense.

I never seen players not understand leverage and route concepts. This last drive Kiko should under cut that last TD pass....but no he just stood there and played the turf!!

McCord is a rhythm thrower if you interrupt the WR it throws off things
