This dude for real??

It’s cause he so picky, look at the top corners this year in broward they are only a few who are over six feet with the hips he want but they are quality guys he won’t even look at because there 5’10 or smaller.. he’s just really picky
Rumph likes big corners and so does manny. This scheme cb’s set the edge at times and are depended on to tackle. Keep everything in front of you and make the tackle coming out your zone.

Rumph is 100 % a terrible recruiter. He’s a great dude he just isn’t about the life of running around kissing teenagers asses, sadly that’s the deal.

So it’s a mixture of scheme ( kids not wanting to play in ) , being picky , Rumph is god awful at recruiting and the staff doesn’t know how to deal with backup plans. You’re still supposed to recruit them.

Someone else here mentioned Banda occasionally messing things up and needing other position coaches to step in and fix things. Ican’t recall who it was.

Regardless I take this post as not signing off on 3 CBs who wanted to come here since it appears Banda needs to sign off on DB offers. I wish we had names on said recruits if this is true.
Banda has been with Diaz for a long time so this should be expected especially when you have a green coach like Rumph. Someone please tell me why we should trust Rumph's evaluations? His recruiting and coaching are both terrible, what makes you think his evaluations will be spot on? Either way he had his targets and whiffed on all of them. This is a lame excuse.

Nobody's evaluations are always spot on. That's unrealistic and it shows in recruiting fails and NFL Draft failures.

Banda is just as green as Rumph. Before Miami, Banda was only ever a GA. Before Miami Rumph was only a HS coach. Coaching resumes aren't stellar for either. Then again, talent evaluators don't have to be great coaches. I have been around to see posters and sportswriters evaluate talent better than NFL front offices and college programs.

What Rumph does have in his corner that Banda doesn't is the fact he played the position in the NFL and was coached by NFL coaches. He's sat in NFL meeting rooms breaking down tape and learning technique. I think that qualifies him to know something about the position. So if neither guy has a stellar coaching resume to go on, i'm going with the guy who's done it, or at least giving him a voice in the process.

Maybe I'm young, but I thought it was pretty straight forward. Unless you want him to say actual names of the CB recruits or something. Bartender has been used all over in reference to Banda.
I'm under 30 & I knew what he meant but just say it.

One of the guys from Canesville
He has a hard on for hating Banda. Just yesterday he was harping on Banda having nothing to do with James Williams coming here. Sure enough, a couple hours later James Williams wins the state championship at FSU and mentions his great relationship with Banda.

You missed the part of the cycle where they accept defeat and panic to circle back around on the kids they first said were 2” too short.

Banda rumors about another job Rumph has no one knocking on his door for an offer. I'm surprised Rumph came to UM to coach isn't he a CB? 🤣

Rumph better not be on this staff next season

Facts

Except that your example defies logic.

People deservedly blame Rumph because regardless of whether he has no say, he fails to get the targets he is told to go get. If Banda/Baker/Diaz were targeting kids, Rumph disagreed but they ignored him, Rumph pulled the kids they wanted him to, and those CBs underperformed because they were bad evaluations, maybe you and the people claiming Rumph has no say would have an intelligent point. But Rumph is constantly failing to bring in these kids in the first place. He is not living up to his end.

If you believe Rumph is the only position coach in P5 football that does not have final decision authority in who he recruits, then I don't know what to tell you. Most position coaches have some say, but very few have full control over the kids they recruit at their position. On our own staff, just about every other position manages to get recruits to sign. They may not all develop or perform (LB, especially), but they sign kids.

Ultimately, as I have said many times on this board, CB recruiting is a ****show, and Diaz/Baker deserve some blame for that, too. It's not binary or some mutually exclusive proposition, and there is plenty of blame to go around as bad as that position has been managed. But the caping for Rumph is illogical. He simply sucks at recruiting.
Nonsense

At any well run program (P5 or not) positions coaches may not have final authority but that have significant input into potential recruits at their position. Also, they are in sync with (a) the schemes the head coach and DC (or OC for offense) wants to run, (b) the skills sets needed at their respective positions for the scheme to be successful, and (c) recruits that possess those skills. If there is a disconnect with anyone of those, you usually have a schit show.

Clearly, Manny has his own opinion. Rumph is a Richt hire and not one of his guys. He doesn't respect Rumph's input, rather he defers to Banda. The end result, a predictable schit show. That's the reality of the situation.

This reminds me of the video that hit this site a few years ago of a recruiting meeting that Donofrio was running where when discussing a safety prospect, Hurlie Brown interjected "What a minute. That jag from Delaware is not UM material" (emphasis added). How'd that end up. We had historically bad performances (until UNC). That's the type of program Manny is running.

The same bartender that’s brought us back to back elite classes at safety? GTFOH. This reeks of bullshît.

Look, I like Rumph as much as the next guy but CB recruiting, especially quantity wise, is pathetic and it has been for years.

Every other position has been recruited well in this class except the 1 that is annually not recruited well. But yea let’s deflect blame to Banda, who has dominated recruiting his own position, to try and protect Rumph.

Some of y’all need to get an “I heart Rumph” bumper sticker the way y’all be defending him. And I’m not a guy who’s always wanting to fire the coaches but eventually the results have to speak for themselves.

Wish Mike nothing but the best, but get me T-Rob or someone of that ilk.

Maybe but probably hasn’t changed since last year.
If rumph can’t get commitments from the kids he’s asked to recruit then that’s on him. why does it matter that he wanted to recruit different kids? no position coach gets to go it alone in recruiting. Doesn’t mean manny and baker don’t deserve blame for a different issue, which is evals and prioritization. But ultimately rumph’s job is to get kids, not blame others when he fails to.
