This dude for real??

Not buying this. Scheme needs changing but we are getting talent at every position on defense except CB lol We just pulled 2 5 star defensive players. Kids still want to play at Miami. I blame Diaz because Rumph shouldn't have been retained when Diaz took over. It's been obvious since day 1, Rumph is a liability.
So it’s not possible that the same scheme appeals to some positions (DL, S) more than others (CB, LB)? Agree on the rest though.

Look, in all honesty, and with all respect to you (because I'm really replying to a bunch of other "Fire Rumph-ers"), this is the misguided myth upon which all of these asinine "anti-Rumph" threads are built.

There are no "Rumph rangers".

Even people who believe that Rumph is a decent coach/teacher and a poor recruiter are NOT advocating for his continued employment.

The HONEST DISCUSSION of Rumph is intended to figure out if Banda, Baker, and/or Diaz are also contributing to our problems. Why are certain porsters on a motherfvcking jihad to get rid of Rumph? What if we replace Rumph and keep everyone else? Why cut out a little bit of cancer while you allow the larger cancerous mass to remain?

I'm not sure why we should talk about other coaches, when we could have a perfectly good "Fire Rumph" circle jerk, right?

Feel free to find any "Rumph is great, retain Rumph" posts from 2020 if you think I've assessed this situation incorrectly.
My main issue is that people like the tweet in OP are blaming Banda, who has been the best recruiter on defense for Rumph’s failures. There was a time when I thought Rumph could mask his horrible recruiting with solid coaching but cornerback play has tapered off recently so he’s not even coaching guys up. He’s useless now. I’m not buying the “Manny won’t let him recruit guys he wants” line either. Unless Rumph’s “targets” are just guys who aren’t capable of playing at a P5 level. But why would Rumph purposely target lower grades players?

I think Baker and Rumph both need to be shown the door. If a new coordinator wants to bring in his own guys, they can fire Banda, Patke and Stroud too. I don’t care for any of them so much that I’d be mad if they were let go.

Don’t overthink this. Rumph went to a psychologist to help with his recruiting and he’s getting beat constantly. Banda is signing the best safeties in the country.

I have defended Rumph because I think he’s a good coach, but his recruiting is too much of a liability. It’s not his thing and that ends up hurting the program.
Tbh I think rumph was rushed into a college job that he wasnt ready for. U look at the great recruiters on our staff all of them either started as a scout or have been around. Fields was a pure off field guy and gets players, Stroud been around forever and has the energy as a prior s&c coach, banda worked off field recruiting and u know bartender skills(lol), hickson worked as a scout and worked his way up. Then u have patke and rumph both guys who were rushed into high level jobs with no experience

For arguments sake, let’s say this is true, let’s say Banda has ultimate control over the CB recruiting, if you’re Rumph, given everything that you’ve accomplished in your career, won a National championship, being a 1st round draft pick, played in the NFL for 8 years etc, why would you subject yourself to being under the control of two dudes like Manny& Banda??? I mean if you’re Rumph & you’re being held back from doing your job while simultaneously getting blamed for things you’re allegedly not responsible for, why not just leave & go get a job at a school elsewhere then you can show just how good of a Coach/Recruiter you really are?

I mean think of it like this, CB’s in South FL are one of the highest valued commodities on the recruiting market, SEC, B1G, Big XII, AAC, CUSA & the rest of the ACC spends hundreds of thousands of dollars every year recruiting South FL Corners, so if you’re a CB coach with connection & ability to sign those kids that would give you negotiating leverage on the market, you could make yourself a valuable asset to a program if you possess the ability to sign the most coveted CB’s at a premium position from a hotbed recruiting zone like South FL. Which means, a guy like Mike Rumph would be someone that numerous other teams would be willing to pay top dollar to steadily bring them South FL CB’s, which means if he were being treated unfairly he could easily get a new job elsewhere & show off his recruiting prowess, so then the question becomes if all of this were true, why hasn’t he???

Rumph has no say so in which players he gets to recruit, he can’t offer any CB himself without Banda & Diaz’s permission, he has no responsibility for who he recruits & if the guy he does recruit doesn’t commit & sign with Miami he gets blamed for it even though it’s not his fault, he supposedly coaches both the CB’s & the Safeties while again not getting credit for it, so someone explain to me why he would be perfectly fine with this scenario as a coach for literally 5-6 years straight??? I assume he has pride doesn’t he, why would he accept this reality of being under the autonomy of Banda if he has no input on anything & gets blamed for everything??? It’s not like he has some million dollar salary to protect, so what it is?

At the end day, logic tells you that this is all a crock of shît, it’s quite obvious what’s going on, but at this point this discussion has been beaten to Death. If the rumors about Banda possibly heading to Utah St are true, then all the Rumph-Truthers will finally get their wish, Big Bad Banda will be out of the way & Rumph will have his time to shine, let’s see what happens when Rumph doesn’t have Banda holding him back & he’s allowed to offer & recruit who he wants, let’s see how many premier 4/5-star CB’s he lands & since he coaches the Safeties too, let’s see him land prospects like Kamari Wilson, Marquis Lymon etc, let’s finally see what Rumph is made of & how good a recruiter he really is without the “Bartender” blocking him...

truth.

anyone who thinks rumph is being sabotaged by banda (or diaz) is seriously off the mark.

you can disagree with manny's approach, and point out his failure to compensate for (or remedy) rumph's shortcomings. that's fair. point taken.

but to suggest the reason that rumph is unsuccessful is because manny (and banda) are knowingly interfering in ways that are orchestrating rumph's failure, is just pure nonsense.

When he was hired i said this. He's a GA GALIVANTING AS A CB COACH OR SOME SORT OF CB WHISPERER BY SOME OF OUR FANS.

Look at my boy DVD learning the trade, look at Brandon Harris. That should of been his trajectory.

The only saving grace would have been him developing Ivey and Blades into top 3 round nfl draft guys...but looks like he is lagging there as well. Because if he did that he would have something to point to in recruiting. Right now he doesnt.

Blame is on Manny for retaining him but its obvious he tried to move on but the guy he targeted didnt take the gig

I haven't been following the boards as closely for a while. What's the backstory here?

Miami could employ an assistant cornerbacks coach who only recruits and that person would be more valuable than Baker and Patke.

But carry on with the Rumph bashing. He at least contributes something to the defense.

Exactly he should have been what DVD is when manny took over that's when he could have been elevated. Sucks for rumph csz he is a really good guy super nice but he needs to move along. I would move dvd to cb coach he is ready imo. Hire a lb/dc and then see what banda wants to do give him a pay raise and make him assistant hc imo. Then fire patke and go after a stud recruiter for his job

Fran Brown was available for a short moment, looked to be a Diaz target but ultimately got hired by Rutgers and he was a Camden Nj guy so he went home

Oh yea Blake Baker has recruited better DBS than Mike Rumph as well. Look up the La Tech guys and how they are performing and where they were drafted.

I’m not saying Rumph isnt a liability I’m saying Manny Diaz is a bigger liability even if you’re blaming Rumph, he’s the HC.

Dlineman and Safeties are highlighted in this defense so he has more recruiting success bc of it. Elite LBers don’t want to play in this scheme and elite cbs don’t want to play this fake press but don’t touch then bail out bs every snap.

However Diaz will make sure he at least has more than enough bodies at lber where as when it comes to cb that position always seems to get the scraps which is why we have no cb depth. Those decisions fall on Diaz we got 3 star cbs choosing other schools bc we waited too late to offer.

He has a hard on for hating Banda. Just yesterday he was harping on Banda having nothing to do with James Williams coming here. Sure enough, a couple hours later James Williams wins the state championship at FSU and mentions his great relationship with Banda.
Dude was arguing left and right on Facebook telling Banda had nothing to do with Tae and James Williams. When people were quoting the kids themselves, dude was like: They say what we tell them to say or something like that.
Pretty sure James Williams ain’t lying about his relationship with Banda because Manny told him to...
Him and Cole Perry are real clowns on that group.

I didn’t want Rumph hired because he wasn’t qualified, but I felt once he was on staff he wasn’t the worst of the bunch. I’ve come around to your verdict that his personality is just too much of a hurdle to overcome. But Baker is the first guy who should be shown the door. If Rumph is the only one to go we’re going to keep losing to good teams.

Yeah, whoever said that "Banda had nothing to do with Tae" is just flat out wrong. Banda's relationship, over multiple years, was one of the strongest elements of Tae's recruitment, and someone close to Tae's recruiting situation confirmed that info.
