This dude for real??

Don’t overthink this. Rumph went to a psychologist to help with his recruiting and he’s getting beat constantly. Banda is signing the best safeties in the country.

I have defended Rumph because I think he’s a good coach, but his recruiting is too much of a liability. It’s not his thing and that ends up hurting the program.

the question is, why does Manny keep bringing him back?

There is no more debate. He doesn’t recruit and he doesn’t coach guys up. He’s the worst coach on the team followed closely by Baker. Why are people buying into this cooky ****?

CB should be the easiest position to recruit at Miami, that or WR. I just don't understand why he struggles so much at it? Is he just an akward guy and struggles to hold a conversation outside of football talk?

Pls blow this chit up.

I’m not giving Rumph any pass; but this is rhetoric has been stated both on social media & here by some close to the program for the past several seasons, prior to Diaz becoming HC.

It’s starting to feel like the good ole boys club w/ Diaz & friends, w/ Rumph being on the outside looking in.

Feeling eerily similar to Hurlie trying to offer his opinion and getting shut down by D’Onfrio & cronies.

I don’t know what to believe, but if this is being said so often, per history, maybe there is a little smoke to this.
It’s whiny nonsense excuses.

No position coach at a major program has carte blanche to offer whoever he wants. There’s a process to identify candidates, assess and agree on offers as a team, with approval of the HC or DC depending on how manny wants to run it. Given the importance of maintaining credibility in long term relationships in So Fla for this team, I’d hope Manny has to sign off on offers and I’d assume there’s a weekly meeting to do just that.

This idea that MR wanted to offer other kids - it’s entirely possible - but that’s an eval issue not a recruiting one. Maybe rumph is right on evals - don’t know. But it doesn’t explain why he can’t recruit the kids manny approves offers for.

Blaming the eval process for his inability to sell is pretty ridiculous.

Whatever the reason is, it’s disjointed. And something gotta change. Can’t keep hearing about this

agreed - but there’s nothing surprising about excuses being associated with failures.

if mike r doesn’t like the eval process, speak up or leave. if he just can’t recruit kids who he doesn’t get to pick by himself, this isn’t the career for him

For arguments sake, let’s say this is true, let’s say Banda has ultimate control over the CB recruiting, if you’re Rumph, given everything that you’ve accomplished in your career, won a National championship, being a 1st round draft pick, played in the NFL for 8 years etc, why would you subject yourself to being under the control of two dudes like Manny& Banda??? I mean if you’re Rumph & you’re being held back from doing your job while simultaneously getting blamed for things you’re allegedly not responsible for, why not just leave & go get a job at a school elsewhere then you can show just how good of a Coach/Recruiter you really are?

I mean think of it like this, CB’s in South FL are one of the highest valued commodities on the recruiting market, SEC, B1G, Big XII, AAC, CUSA & the rest of the ACC spends hundreds of thousands of dollars every year recruiting South FL Corners, so if you’re a CB coach with connection & ability to sign those kids that would give you negotiating leverage on the market, you could make yourself a valuable asset to a program if you possess the ability to sign the most coveted CB’s at a premium position from a hotbed recruiting zone like South FL. Which means, a guy like Mike Rumph would be someone that numerous other teams would be willing to pay top dollar to steadily bring them South FL CB’s, which means if he were being treated unfairly he could easily get a new job elsewhere & show off his recruiting prowess, so then the question becomes if all of this were true, why hasn’t he???

Rumph has no say so in which players he gets to recruit, he can’t offer any CB himself without Banda & Diaz’s permission, he has no responsibility for who he recruits & if the guy he does recruit doesn’t commit & sign with Miami he gets blamed for it even though it’s not his fault, he supposedly coaches both the CB’s & the Safeties while again not getting credit for it, so someone explain to me why he would be perfectly fine with this scenario as a coach for literally 5-6 years straight??? I assume he has pride doesn’t he, why would he accept this reality of being under the autonomy of Banda if he has no input on anything & gets blamed for everything??? It’s not like he has some million dollar salary to protect, so what it is?

At the end day, logic tells you that this is all a crock of shît, it’s quite obvious what’s going on, but at this point this discussion has been beaten to Death. If the rumors about Banda possibly heading to Utah St are true, then all the Rumph-Truthers will finally get their wish, Big Bad Banda will be out of the way & Rumph will have his time to shine, let’s see what happens when Rumph doesn’t have Banda holding him back & he’s allowed to offer & recruit who he wants, let’s see how many premier 4/5-star CB’s he lands & since he coaches the Safeties too, let’s see him land prospects like Kamari Wilson, Marquis Lymon etc, let’s finally see what Rumph is made of & how good a recruiter he really is without the “Bartender” blocking him...
100% spot on.What the Rumph apologists don't understand is all these excuses they're making for Rumph is only making him look like a cuckold.Rumph collected NFL paychecks for almost a decade,if he had any pride he wouldn't let Diaz and Banda ruin whatever future he has left in coaching.

Manny supposedly wanted to get rid of Rumph last year but I find it hard to believe he would be in cahoots with Banda to sabotage Rumph at the expense of the team making it easier to get rid of him this year ...but hey this is 2020 so WTF knows.

When Rumph lost 2 kids that he not only coached from optimist up,who thought of him as a mentor and like a father figure it’s all I needed to know about Mike Rumph as a recruiter.

And don’t give me “ well the kids got paid big bags”. If your supposedly that close to two top players who have known you and been coached by you most of their lives, think of you as family and supposedly go to you with life problems it doesn’t say much for you as a person or coach if they’d chose money over you especially when one of the kids parents are very well off and seemingly doesn’t need a bag.

Mike Rumph sucks as a recruiter and watching his position players he leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to coaching as well.
Liked by Manny and Banda or not it’s time to move on to someone that can or is allowed to get players in here to play the position you’re in charge of

From the article:

For Rumph, there was also the matter of working through some of the challenges he’d endured as a recruiter. He sought encouragement and advice from his wife, Veronica. He had multiple conversations with Diaz about recruiting. He even met with Dr. Eric Goldstein, UM’s sports psychologist who last season was credited by Hurricanes running back DeeJay Dallas with helping him overcome fumbling issues.
“So many people have been supporting me to help me do my job as a recruiter,” Rumph said. “To see all of that coming together and seeing a kid trust my alma mater is huge for us. Huge. [He’s] right along the line with [Chaminade-Madonna cornerback] T’Cory Couch. … Those two kids wanted to be Hurricanes and I hadn’t seen that in a while, where we weren’t second choices. This is where they want to be.”
