There are only three things fans can do...

I'll credit the hardcore Canes fan nation for forcing the change, not myself. You can poo poo the affect of disgruntled fans all you want, but you sound like a dinosaur when you do it.

P.S. It's a lot more more than a couple dozen internet fans who want this defense changed.

Except you'll (and the hardcore canes nation LULZ) take credit for something you haven't earned. Fact is Al will make the change HE feels is best to move the program forward. If he feels removing Coach D will help accomplish that, then I'm sure he'll make the change. He made the change, not you.

I highly doubt that the admin is going to step in and give Al an ultimatum. Anyone with a brain knows that isn't happening at this stage. Now maybe in two, three years, but Al has EARNED the right after this NCAA mess to right the ship, how HE sees fit.

If in two years Al is still getting "drug by his nostrils" by these mediocre teams, then the admin. will prob. step in.

Go ahead and keep believing the fans have nothing to do with corching changes. I'd direct you to Donna Shalala's comments after she fired Shannvo. She clearly stated that a big part of the reason she got rid of him was the fans' discontent. Happens everywhere.

Don't be so naive to think that teams and universities would choose to eat big contracts if the fans didn't start withholding their money. It's a money-driven game. If you think a career .500 corch like Al Tin, who hasn't stopped anyone here in 3 years, has complete autonomy with this football program, then I got some great swamp land to sell you.

I never said fans don't have a say. I said "isn't happening at this stage", which it won't. Al has earned the right to make those decisions autonomously, at this point in time.

Al hasn't earned **** at this point. He's barely earned the right to keep his own job. He's barely a .500 corch.

Doesn't matter what you or I feel he's earned. The admin. (by all accounts) is behind Al 100% (at this point in time), due to the fact he's stuck by and added credibility and continuity to the program.

His name was being thrown around for NFL jobs a month ago and now he's "barely earned the right to keep his own job". This **** is getting laughable.

Al cut another 5 years to another decade off the reconstruction of this program by simply staying and recruiting his *** off.. He's earned at a minimum 6 years at this gig.

Lol at the state of this clusterfark if he blew town when Yahoo unloaded. My god, a 10 ton wrecking ball wouldnt have laid more destruction.

I live in New York State and can't make it to the games, but wish I could. I agree things have gotten out of hand around here but I think it's because many felt that we had turned the corner only to fall back again. Agree though that we need to stop bashing recruits, when it's all said and done they're just kids.

That's what I feel. I think he has what it takes and will make the necessary changes. He's in year three. The heat should be turning up in year 5 if he still doesn't have us turned around and competing for championships. I understand the impatience, due to the incompetence that has bled through this program for a decade but sheesh.

One more thing about attendance and this market. Its been well established that is an event town. So having a head coach who only wants to play the girls soft-ball team so he can claim improvement doesn't help. Just look at next years schedule. When we play in the below average ACC is two marquee non-conference games too much to ask for? The only reason that Cincinnati is on the schedule is because they couldn't get Southern Mississippi who is 0-11 in conference usa http://miamiherald.typepad.com/spor...how-playoff-contender-schedules-stack-up.html. Pathetic.

I dont know who it was but some poster in this thread said we never turn out in force. Only for FSU other then that its about 45k? LOL. Dude, you just showed your age there. You clearly never went to any games in the mid 80s or early 90s. UM wins, people want to be at the games. Just like EVERY OTHER team in this city. Im looking at the Dolphin game on TV as im typing this and their attendance aint that great either. There is only ONE ticket in town at the moment and that is the Miami Heat. Hmmmmmmmm..I wonder why?

Anyway, I agree with all your points Dmoney. Anyone who bashes recruits and players on Twitter probably has no life or has no girlfriend/wife and you DEFINITELY dont have any sidechicks either. Because if you did, you wouldnt have time for all that kiddie crap.

But I disagree on Teddy Bridgewater. Dude is a lame, a disgrace to SoFla, and I wish him no luck. Turned his back on Al and then gave a lame excuse on why he did. Because of the fans?? Smh. Eli Rodgers too. Following Teddy around like a lap dog.

I am old fart...sat in the OB in the 80s and 90s to ****ty crowds with good teams being played...sat in the OB on a thursday night when we played WVU...we were number 1 or 2 ESPN game had not been beat in 20+ games and there was like 40K of is there....I will post attendance for you on every game played by um in the 80s and 90s...fans only sell out FSU, UF OK, Washington NIGHT GAME....that is it....

UM does not have an attendance problem, they have a lousy business model problem. No ceo worth his or her(hello donna) salt would put a super-walmart in the middle of a one horse town in the middle of Idaho and expect to succeed. One of the most important things in business is to know your market, and UM clearly doesn't. You will never succeed if your sales plan is to beg or shame uninterested consumers into buying your product. The stadium is too big for UM's market, plain and simple.

Solid thread....but when we were at the OB ( our Mecca) what you wrote also was the issue, UM has kids running its marketing program and does what other schools do etc...no imagination or regional targeting. Their saving grace this year was the gators.... We probably spent millions on Lawyers and consultants on the NCAA situation, we need to focus that on marketing our area in SE FL...I see bill boards all over Fort Myers, not sure who spent that coin but they were nice...not sure of what was accomplished in over all sales...

I have been in marketing my whole adult life and why come over here and pick at this crowd of UF and FSU fan base for the most part....when South Fl has what 7 million folks...I dont remember seeing any season ticket posters in Miami? But hey and estimated 10K gator fans purchased season tickets to shore up seats for the UF game...it that was UMs plan good for them and also shame on them.....Target the youth, get the parking dropped to $10 for all games except teams ranked that week coming in...then $20 bucks..

Lower the price of Season tickets upper bowl all seats first come first serve $99 a seat...lower bowl $150 a seat etc...

Sell quantitative not qualitative in this market......

We are paying top dollar in seats and parking for a sub par product, that will not last and sat showed that...good game senior day and ****** attendance..

Attendance *****ing WTF R U talking about???????? It was raining , a 12:00 noon start , a 3 game losing streak.... some other self important jackass talking about our stadium attendance for FSU????? It was an away game!!!!!! All you Internet heroes with less time as members here and thousands of posts go get a private room and circle jerk while you ***** together. Fans want to know how our injured players are doing, intelligent talk about the team..... not wade through pages of personal crap transmutated into fan knowledge!!!!

Thanks for the analysis.

We need our own stadium, smaller with seats closer to the field and it needs to be as close to campus as possible. My level of hate for that stadium cannot be expressed in words.

Just my opinion, but this is what's REALLY holding the program back. Coaches come and go, but we simply cannot stay in that shytehole and expect to ever maintain an elite program. Again, just my opinion, and I realize that it's a pipe dream that we get our own stadium any time soon.

Stadium has nothing to do with why Miami loses football games. The 1987 Canes, for example, would have been just as good if they had played all of their home games in a high school stadium.

It could be argued that some of the players on that 1987 team wouldn't have come to Miami under the current stadium/fan support structure.

They call you D$ for a reason. An overwhelming % of the porsters here should be called DVagina. We got pansies here EXPECTING we lose to a 6-5 Pitt team. Ed Reed shoots a wad on that bull****. We might lose, but to expect that??????? Come on man???!!!

Not showing up for games does not help the already difficult stadium atmosphere. That is a poor excuse for those jumping on Golden for making excuses. The players deserve our support. They have nothing to do with where they play. If you think acting like bit*** about the stadium does not effect recruits you are sorely mistaken. It is what is it is. Get over it and go out and watch the **** game.

^THIS^

...to affect the outcome of a college football game.

Number one, show up to the games. Give the home team energy, make it hard for the opponents and create a good atmosphere for the recruits. Easy enough. But some of us chose not to go yesterday to "make a statement" or because "the kids are soft."

Number two, don't call active recruits ******s on the internet. Self-explanatory. But we can't do that.

Number three, give money to the program without turning into a ****ing snitch to the NCAA. We can't do that, either.

Yes, the defense sucks. The fans are sucking worse. Step your game up and be part of the solution.

The solution is coaching changes on the defensive side of the ball. And sometimes the best way to make your sentiment felt is to not show up or financially support the product.
Why do some people act like they are better than others because they go to every game and cheer?

It cost money & time to go to Canes games. Some people have families they'd rather spend time with than watch uninspired football.

So give me a break with the super fan ****. Put a better product on the field or at the very least one that looks like they want to be out there and you'll see more fan support.

This is a bunch of crock. When Al and his staff came in, the attendance was still bad. NOW we are suppose to believe that a coaching change needs to be made in order for fans to show up? LMAO! If you don't want to watch uninspired football, than don't comment on it either.

This **** right here should be auto ban foreal because people on here dont think it affects recruiting it does. It makes our fan base look retarded and if they want to talk **** let them do it to them through twitter and be men about it not hiding on message boards. This needs fixing asap Dmoney because look at guys like Lane they watch this and at least the Gator forums or any other are pay sites that recruits cant view. So the negative is hidden from them...................If u gonna talk **** show ya face and tweet them and man up. Stop being lil *** pu55ies if you dont like a kid ok but be a man.....This is Miami.

Its all recruiting, u want the D back help recruit stop bytching and help someway.

I second that. Calling recruits and coaches out of their name should definitely be grounds for a ban.

AMEN brother. I dont get some of the bullsh*t some of the "fans" here have been doing the last few weeks. I understand the anger and frustration. We all want what is best for this team and the program. But the endless ad hominem attacks on Golden, the players, trashing some recruits, encouraging recruits to go to other schools, I mean I dont get that sh*t. How do they feel that is going to "help" us get better? I agree we need some major changes on this staff, and there are legitimate concerns about where we are heading if our HC cant make the necessary moves to fix our defensive issues. But the daily barrage of insults calling him a liar and a used car salesman, etc, isnt exactly helpful when we are battling for top recruits and hoping he can land some of these top players we NEED to get back to elite status.

And the stuff about encouraging recruits to not come here is simply mind boggling to me. How can ANY person who calls themselves a "fan" of this team, be saying elite recruits are stupid if they come here? I mean WTF.

No one is claiming you have to be a blind superhomer, or not demand better and expect better. But there is a difference between expressing displeasure and demanding change, and acting like a petulant child who is willing to cut off your nose to spite your face.

I mean some people need to grow the f*ck up and think about what you are saying on here. We KNOW that players, recruits, their families, and media members read these boards. Think about what you write on here, and how its going to impact the program. Does anyone really think that encouraging recruits to not come here, because they are ****ed at the staff, is going to make ANYTHING better? Come on.

D Money,
I know this a message board and you want traffic. But message boards are to express opinions and say what ever is on your mind but that does not have to include profanity directed at recruits, player or coaching staff. This is something you can clean up. It is not about banning posters who you don't agree with their opinion, but the ones who use abusive language to express their opinions. By calling recruits, players or even other posters names and throwing around insults, some posters believe, somehow, it makes their arguments more persuasive!

You left out that fans can force change. If the fans didn't force it, then corches wouldn't get fired.

FROM CHAMPS TO CHUMPS. THANKS BUTCH!

That sign flew in 1997. When Butch was putting together the greatest college football roster of all time and a staff littered with future NFL and college head coaches.

I'm glad they didn't force a change then.
Forced him to shake up his staff. Glad that worked. As much as people want to revise history as it pertains to Davis, he never won anything here and gagged in 2000 with a championship roster.

That's not what happened in 2000. If that's how you remember it, you need to recheck the history books. Also, I think you are giving fans WAY too much credit for forcing change. Fans can pile on and, SLIGHTLY, speed change that was going to happen anyway, but they can't cause a change of course. Results, or lack thereof, do that. Outside of that, I agree with everything you said.

You're making way too many assumptions with zero basis in fact:
1. You're assuming that the administration is willing to stand by and let Corch Al keep Duh and this historically bad defense around and watch attendance and support for the program dwindle to sickening lows;
2. That Corch Al's name was actually in play for any NFL jobs. Who mentioned him for an NFL job? Internet posters?

Because the post is full of assumptions couched as fact it's devoid of any merit.

So you don't understand frustration with a guy fielding a historically bad defense 3 years into the gig? You don't typically go from being historically bad like this to magically competing for NCs. This doesn't seem like a problem to you that we're still getting gutted and emasculated in year 3 by a murderer's row like UNC, Weak, VT, Puke and Uvag?
