I don't see how you can ask for any better in the college ranks. Lots of college coaches have failed miserably in the NFL but the fact that guys like Butch and Petrino made it to the NFL says enough IMO. Plus that was some time ago.....who says these guys can't learn from their mistakes? You think the NFL is beating down Goldens door?

No-one is beating down the door for either Butch or Petrino, but I get your point. But as long as we can get someone like Chud, who is a realistic hire and an offensive wizard, we'll be okay.

yeah I just meant when they were first hired. I don't like to get into hindsight 20/20 debates because it's easy to bash these guys now at this point. Actually Butch did a solid job in Cleveland as well. He was respected and took over a dog**** organization. Butch obviously knows his **** regardless of anything else. They are both significant upgrades is my point I suppose.

Still have to consider we don't have unlimited options.

Oh, If we were to get either Petrino or Butch, I'd be ******* excited as those two guys have the capacity to lead to a NC within 3 years.

I just don't see this administration hiring either of those two. Call it pessimism or whatever, we've been burned too many times to expect the right hire.

Saying you don't think Petrino will get the job is one thing.

But anyone, and I do mean anyone, who doesn't WANT him to get the job is a fool. He's an absolutely, positively, without a shadow of a doubt SLAM DUNK hire. His offense with South Florida calibre athletes would be lethal. He's also smart enough to get a good DC and stay the **** out of the way.

Pray to everything you believe in that this administration gets a clue and actually makes the right hire this time. Petrino SHOULD be option #1, ahead of Butch, Chud, and even Schiano.

I'm back and forth. On one hand you thinking that way is completely justified. OTOH I thought Golden was a good hire and a nice change of pace from what we were doing. It just didn't work out the way we hoped. I don't think we will ever be in the ultra aggressive market but we've got some intelligent folks making decisions that seem to (slowly) be geared more towards making this football team elite again. With Golden walking away, it helps us out so there really should be no excuses.

If we **** up this next hire, I am going to be one rustled ************.

The same people ****ting on the Petrino idea are the same people that will be up in here defending every decision he would make like he was their daddy if got named head coach.

I'll take any of those. Just decide and get them on board to save the class. One NC and whoever it is can haul *** to NFL or wherever. We can replace him with another once we get the talent level back up. Pay the money to keep the top recruiter assistants and a new HC every 3 or 4 years is fine.

He's the best candidate. Hands down. End of Story.

How about for once we stop worrying about image, political correctness and all the other bull**** we've been doing the LAST 3 HIRES and actually go out and make a GOOD HIRE.

It's Petrino, then everyone else. If they're serious about winning they'll make the move.

Al Golden needs to **** or get off the pot. Not sure if it's true but Strong maybe waiting on ALs decision before signing with Texas....... I know it's a long shot..... But we will never know if this doesn't move along a little faster

My main concern with AG leaving is the admin will fail with his replacement.
If they're actually going to get a stud i.e. Petrino, Strong, Chud, etc then I'm all in.

Those tend to be the best coaches. Who cares if it's short term. Worry about today.

I don't think ANYONE would consider Saban or Meyer anything OTHER than slimy.
