Talking to DMoney earlier, is this UF game...

Disagree. Big game? Yes but nothing like 1999 or 2000 in terms of personnel, coaching, team getting over the hump, position of team, team make up etc. Miami could win this game and then lose to some garbage 4-8 team. Atleast with Davis you pretty much knew you were going to beat the teams you were suppose to beat. With golden you don't know that.

You mean like East Carolina?

East Carolina was 9-3 and led by an nfl qb in David Garrard. It's not like they were 2-10 or 4-8 and led by a qb who was benched due to in effectiveness after looking like an all American against your team.

Not even close to what I'm talking about.

What was Butch's record against East Carolina? Butch lost to Pitt. He lost to West Virginia.

Butch lost to Pitt and wvu in 1997 amist -30 ships. Not even close to what I'm talking about. Don't understand why people trash Davis to build up golden. It's silly.

K9,

I don't see it as 2000. In 2000, our defense was filthier than it is now, particularly on the Dline. That 2000 team knew it was special. On the other hand, the 1999 team figured out late that it could be special. They beat UCLA, had an epic offseason strength and conditioning summer, and came back very focused for 2000. UCLA was the trigger win. We haven't had that trigger win. Maybe this it, or maybe it's FSU. The program has to win a game of that magnitude.

UCLA was 98.

Shhhh. He was rolling.

Or Washington where Davis panicked early in game going for 2 twice, failing both times, where later in game we could have tied with a fg instead of needing a TD. Butch also went cautious with under minute left in half instead of going for the throat and that cost us E Carolina game in 99 and kept N Texas St in game where margin of victory kept us out of title game.

Washington was 11-1 and a road game across the country golden sounds like he'd shy away from. La tech was the game where Davis tried to be classy and not run up the score causing miami to miss the title game. Miami didnt play north Texas st.

Another example of our dumb fans glorifying everything about **** Davis because he's no longer here. The guy was the best evaluator of HS talent in the history of college football. Everything else he was pretty terrible at.

If Davis was terrible at everything else I'd hate to hear your opinion on the current hurricane hc.

Look, we all want to murder the Gators. We all hope to go out there firing on all cylinders and put a whooping on them. And by God, I certainly hope that we do.

But let's get one thing straight.......winning this game does not get us to the ACC championship. It means nothing to our ACC record.

I truly believe that win or lose, the team must stay focused on the ultimate task....and that is getting to the ACC Championship, then hopefully winning it and getting to a BCS Bowl game. This would be huge, for both the team and ESPECIALLY recruiting.

But it would do us no good to beat the Gators, have us celebrating over this victory and then lose one of those trap games vs the likes of a Virginia, Pittsburgh, UNC, GT, etc.

Whatever happens this Saturday, I hope Golden keeps this team concentrated on what truly matters. Winning the ACC.

I'd be all for this if we weren't talking about the Florida Gators. I could probably stomach this if you were talking about some random Big 12 or Big 10 team. Maybe an SEC team we never play.

But, this is the Gator. Everything they stand for is the opposite of what mostly everyone on this board grew up loving about the Miami Hurricanes.

And with everything I said earlier about not feeling as if the team was ready to take the next step, with regards to Lu's post, all I can say is:THIS. I ****** hate those sorry *** mofos. I can't even put into words how badly I want to win this game.

This is a must-win for Al Golden. True or untrue?

Untrue. From the point of admin and the **** storm he has gone through his lease is quite long.

True. From the Caneinsight point of view. Because, well, you read the boards.

True, From my point of view because he is at Miami now and at Miami you win these types of games. Bottom line

I'm not talking about his job being on the line. But for the immediate future I think this is a must-win. It'll be even more of an uphill battle for him if we don't get it done on 9/7.

Butch was definitely scattebrained on gameday, and it was unbelievably frustrating at times. But otherwise he did most everything pretty **** well as the head coach. In addition to his outstanding evaluations, he made sure the players developed while they were here. And the players developed bc he largely hired a good staff, had an excellent S&C program, and instilled fear in his players that motivated them to bust their assess.

Talent evaluation, standing alone, is not enough to have the success Butch had. ****, he should have had the title in 2000, but we got screwed in favor of FSU; and then he basically gift-wrapped two titles for Coker, though Coker ****ed the second one away, beginning the demise of what was the best program in the country.

I'm with Lu 100%.

I'd take a 10-2 non-ACC championship season with a win over UF over a 10-2 ACC championship season with a loss to UF.

This is a must-win for Al Golden. True or untrue?

True. I consider myself pretty level headed when it comes to the big picture with this program, but to show me that we are truly on our way back to being elite we NEED to win this game. Lose and I will pretty much have to accept the fact we'll never be a National Championship contender again. We may compete for ACC titles here and there but to show we on the way to truly being back we have to win this game.

Honestly, I can't think of one similarity between 1999 or 2000 and this team. Maybe the 2010 team as far as pre season expectations. Hopefully the outcome is different.

Am sorry after all the talk about how much stronger and mature this team is, I don't want to hear about its ok to lose to Florida. ....Florida kak sucking gators. The team that built their rep off playing easy *** schedules and then act like they are our equals. No way in ****.....we should dread the thought of losing to them ACC title or no. Not only that they are recruiting heavy down here with that SEC bull. That is losers mentality. UF doesn't have the pure play makers we have, not with Duke and Morris. If they beat us its because they out tough us. That shhhh should never happen.

This is a must-win for Al Golden. True or untrue?

Maybe not this game but this year is a big year for Golden. If he chokes he should be on the hot seat.

Normally would agree with this if he loses 5 games but considering the ncaa **** he should deserve more time. Tis aint an overnight fix with that mess. Dude missed great players because of it and maybe with those misses we would be a great team right now.

I think there is plenty of talent on the team, but I have yet to see 11 killers on the field at once. Im waiting for that "Oh ****" moment, where someone just absolutely murders an opponent or takes one to the house when it matters. We have really **** the bed lately when it comes to the spotlight. I am optimistic and hopeful, but just not sold on Al manufacturing a killer instinct. He's too Joe Paterno, grooming men of nobility, and not enough Jimmy Johnson, holding 50 angry pitbulls on leashes feeding them scraps.

I am a huge supporter of Al Golden and the direction he is taking this program but I think you just nailed it on the head as far as the element of killer instinct is concerned.I think it is important for us to remember that this is still a relatively young football team. I think that killer instinct will show up in time. Hopefully we'll get a little bit this Saturday.
