Talking to DMoney earlier, is this UF game...

Look, we all want to murder the Gators. We all hope to go out there firing on all cylinders and put a whooping on them. And by God, I certainly hope that we do.

But let's get one thing straight.......winning this game does not get us to the ACC championship. It means nothing to our ACC record.

I truly believe that win or lose, the team must stay focused on the ultimate task....and that is getting to the ACC Championship, then hopefully winning it and getting to a BCS Bowl game. This would be huge, for both the team and ESPECIALLY recruiting.

But it would do us no good to beat the Gators, have us celebrating over this victory and then lose one of those trap games vs the likes of a Virginia, Pittsburgh, UNC, GT, etc.

Whatever happens this Saturday, I hope Golden keeps this team concentrated on what truly matters. Winning the ACC.

I'd be all for this if we weren't talking about the Florida Gators. I could probably stomach this if you were talking about some random Big 12 or Big 10 team. Maybe an SEC team we never play.

But, this is the Gator. Everything they stand for is the opposite of what mostly everyone on this board grew up loving about the Miami Hurricanes.

this team has the same mission mindset the '01 title team did. That team did not care what it took, as long as they hoisted the title at the end. In the hugely important games, say Wash. Fsu and Penn St., they took them to town. The florida game represents those games in a sense to this team. The mission this team has isn't one based on winning the title per-say. But showing Miami is not a punching bag for the rest of the NCAA and the NCAA its self. Just my opinion.

We need this win badly, but more importantly we need Florida to go on and have a great season as well if we win. When was the last time we beat a team that mattered? OSU and OU were the last two big name teams we beat and they both sucked in those years (as did we). If we smack Florida and then they end up going 7-6 it's not going to matter to anyone outside of Miami.

In addition to that, this will probably be the last time we have a shot at Florida outside of a bowl game. This is huge for recruiting IMO. I don't personally believe we can be good enough to win the ACC without also being able to beat Florida. This game can to be the game we can look back to as the turning point.

There is also a side of me that thinks that many of our players, specifically on the offensive side, may not be ready for this game. I thought we were ready back in 2010 against OSU and this game feels a lot like that one except we're playing at home this time.

I just hope we beat Florida and leave no doubts when it's all said and done.

Disagree. Big game? Yes but nothing like 1999 or 2000 in terms of personnel, coaching, team getting over the hump, position of team, team make up etc. Miami could win this game and then lose to some garbage 4-8 team. Atleast with Davis you pretty much knew you were going to beat the teams you were suppose to beat. With golden you don't know that.

You mean like East Carolina?

this is just a mind ****. you run the table and your in. thats all.

Easily the biggest game of AG coaching career. If we win the skys the limit and they wil make me a believer.

So, is this the Penn State game from '99? We win that game, and '99 is probably different. We don't lose to ECU the next week and probably don't get blown out by VT. We might have even beaten FSU in that 31-21 game that was tied 21-21 in the 2nd half.

So, the answer is yes.

Absolutely, and further to your statement, I had a coach on that staff tell me that he thinks if Davenport doesnt( forget that key word the first time) get hurt at the end of the Ohio St opener, that team could've gone undefeated. That his ability to wear teams down would've been huge that year

Have to agree with both of you and for those always complaining they were the type that wanted Ed Reed run out of town after the Penn St game because they didn't really know football, thank God the coaches never lost faith in him.

Or Washington where Davis panicked early in game going for 2 twice, failing both times, where later in game we could have tied with a fg instead of needing a TD. Butch also went cautious with under minute left in half instead of going for the throat and that cost us E Carolina game in 99 and kept N Texas St in game where margin of victory kept us out of title game.

This game is huge for the confidence of the team moving forward. We sucked in big games last year with the excpetion of FSU and need to come out and show that we can hang with and beat a top tier team. This will be a huge test for the defensive line and the offensive line and if they're up to the challenge we are going to be very happy with the outcome.

My biggest worry going into this game is Morris. Preseason I would have had different concerns but I just don't know if his head is screwed on straight. I think this entire thing comes down to his performance. He needs early success or it's going to be a frustrating day for us. The talent is there but will it all come together?

Even with a loss there's still a very good chance to have a great season. Other than Florida State this team will most likely be favored in every other game with UNC being the only matchup that really looks troublesome. Most reasonable people think 9-10 wins is the bar for this team and one loss against Florida doesn't change that. A loss would suck but by no means render the rest of the season meaningless. A win still means having to win games against teams that have given us fits for years.

**** that **** in the face. There should never be an incentive to lose to that puss *** program in Gainesville.

Don Bailey Jr invented that mentality and infested some of our fanbase with it.

Words can't even describe how much I disagree with that entire line of thinking

What was Butch's record against East Carolina? Butch lost to Pitt. He lost to West Virginia.

Every bit of focus should be on winning this game. Worry about the rest of them later. I can't stand to read posts about how we can recover from a loss to the gator. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Stomp the dog shìt out of these guys, then beat everyone else too. Please stop with this "it would be alright to lose this one, because....." ****.

Exactly, I can't forsee a situation where UM has some sort of let-down if they beat UF this weekend? And they get a bye on Sept the 14th and two cupcakes the next two weeks after that. Again, confidence and momentum are a huge part of teams and how their seasons play out.[/QUOTE]

This is the best point so far. This is a must win game. It helps in recruiting not only here but on a national base. Helps make Miami more relevant. Say what you want but beating an $ec team is kind of a signature stamp on being back. Like he said getting a bye then a very bad team at home before traveling to USF before seeing another decent team at home. Al will keep these guys focused on the season. FSU and ACC championship would be the only ones to scare me when we win Saturday.

Yes, but with the caveat of this schedule being slightly tougher than we anticipated.

Rok, which games specifically are you referring to?

To be honest, all of them aside from Savannah State.

Nah.

USF, Pitt, and UNC all looked like ****. VT's offense too.

One game in, all of those look like the same or easier level of difficulty.

Welp, we didn't exactly look great vs FAU. Sure, we almost had some big plays that would've blown the game open but we ****ed it up.

If we beat UF on 9/7 then I'll believe that we're a lot better than those teams you listed - but until then we're just another team. They need to prove it on the field.

Another example of our dumb fans glorifying everything about **** Davis because he's no longer here. The guy was the best evaluator of HS talent in the history of college football. Everything else he was pretty terrible at.
