Look, we all want to murder the Gators. We all hope to go out there firing on all cylinders and put a whooping on them. And by God, I certainly hope that we do.
But let's get one thing straight.......winning this game does not get us to the ACC championship. It means nothing to our ACC record.
I truly believe that win or lose, the team must stay focused on the ultimate task....and that is getting to the ACC Championship, then hopefully winning it and getting to a BCS Bowl game. This would be huge, for both the team and ESPECIALLY recruiting.
But it would do us no good to beat the Gators, have us celebrating over this victory and then lose one of those trap games vs the likes of a Virginia, Pittsburgh, UNC, GT, etc.
Whatever happens this Saturday, I hope Golden keeps this team concentrated on what truly matters. Winning the ACC.
Yes, but with the caveat of this schedule being slightly tougher than we anticipated.
Rok, which games specifically are you referring to?
To be honest, all of them aside from Savannah State.
Disagree. Big game? Yes but nothing like 1999 or 2000 in terms of personnel, coaching, team getting over the hump, position of team, team make up etc. Miami could win this game and then lose to some garbage 4-8 team. Atleast with Davis you pretty much knew you were going to beat the teams you were suppose to beat. With golden you don't know that.
We need this win badly, but more importantly we need Florida to go on and have a great season as well if we win. When was the last time we beat a team that mattered? OSU and OU were the last two big name teams we beat and they both sucked in those years (as did we). If we smack Florida and then they end up going 7-6 it's not going to matter to anyone outside of Miami.
In addition to that, this will probably be the last time we have a shot at Florida outside of a bowl game. This is huge for recruiting IMO. I don't personally believe we can be good enough to win the ACC without also being able to beat Florida. This game can to be the game we can look back to as the turning point.
There is also a side of me that thinks that many of our players, specifically on the offensive side, may not be ready for this game. I thought we were ready back in 2010 against OSU and this game feels a lot like that one except we're playing at home this time.
I just hope we beat Florida and leave no doubts when it's all said and done.
So, is this the Penn State game from '99? We win that game, and '99 is probably different. We don't lose to ECU the next week and probably don't get blown out by VT. We might have even beaten FSU in that 31-21 game that was tied 21-21 in the 2nd half.
So, the answer is yes.
Absolutely, and further to your statement, I had a coach on that staff tell me that he thinks if Davenport doesnt( forget that key word the first time) get hurt at the end of the Ohio St opener, that team could've gone undefeated. That his ability to wear teams down would've been huge that year

You mean like East Carolina?
If one of the Gators tries to fight our punter this time around, he will lose, unlike Crosland in '99
Even with a loss there's still a very good chance to have a great season. Other than Florida State this team will most likely be favored in every other game with UNC being the only matchup that really looks troublesome. Most reasonable people think 9-10 wins is the bar for this team and one loss against Florida doesn't change that. A loss would suck but by no means render the rest of the season meaningless. A win still means having to win games against teams that have given us fits for years.

**** that **** in the face. There should never be an incentive to lose to that puss *** program in Gainesville.

Nah.
USF, Pitt, and UNC all looked like ****. VT's offense too.
One game in, all of those look like the same or easier level of difficulty.

What was Butch's record against East Carolina? Butch lost to Pitt. He lost to West Virginia.
