Tackle recruiting

Yup exactly, just like UGA is doing with their 2 OL commit ranked 646, and 983.

L-O-L I bet that sounded real good in ur head when u posted this, huh? Lol

Tell me u’re a casual w/o telling me u’re a casual by posting dumb chit like this. So u realllllly wanna go down this road & attempt to scrutinize & compare the back to back Nat’l Champions class compared to ours, huh? It’s a bold strategy, Cotton, let’s see if it pays off for him:

Current Class of 24:
UGA #1
Miami #28

OK, fine.

UGA recruiting of OL since 2021-23:
-14 commits:
•Two 5* (Classes of 2021 & 2023)
•Seven 4* (Classes of 2021, 2022, 2023)
•Five 3* (Classes of 2021, 2022, 2023)

Miami recruiting of OL 2021-23:
-10 commits:
•Two 5* (Class of 2023)
•Two 4* (Class of 2021)
•Six 3* (Class of 2021, 2022, 2023)

Do you see the issue, here? Nah, never mind…maybe u should see when UGA’s blue chips committed. Nahhhh, I’m in a good mood, fck it.

Freeling: Class of 2023 08/29/2022 (5*)
Smith: Class of 2023 07/22/2022 (4*)
Hughley: Class of 2023 09/23/2021 (4*)
Meriweather: Class of 2023 12/05/2022 (3*)
Miller: Class of 2023 06/12/2022 (3*)

Hood: Class of 2022 08/30/2021 (4*)
Bah: Class of 2022 10/18/2021 (4*)
Green: Class of 2022 01/04/2022 (4*)
Bobo: Class of 2022 12/13/2021 (3*)
Scroggs: Class of 2022 08/03/2021 (3*)

Mims: Class of 2021 10/04/2020 (5*)
Morris: Class of 2021 04/08/2020 (4*)
Fairchild: Class of 2021 05/30/2020 (4*)
Wilson: Class of 2021 08/03/2020 (3*)

So let’s recap:
-UGA has signed at least 4 OL/class since 2021
-UGA signed 14 OLmen w/ a blue chip hit of 64%
-71% of UGA’s OL have committed in late Summer - Fall
*So I wouldn’t pat urself on the back w/ this **** poor example u wanted to use.

We on the other hand have a blue chip hit of 40% on the OL, & two of those blue chips, McLaughlin & Seymore may never see the field ever!

-We signed a big class of OL last cycle w/ 5
-We signed two at the last minute in the class of 2022
-We signed three in the class of 2021, and all 3 (McLaughlin, Seymore, Rodriguez) may never see any PT here.

The silver lining is that 5 of the 7 OLmen who signed w/ us signed late Summer - ESD/NSD; however, it would BEHOOVE us to continue to invest in the OL b/c that’s what Championship caliber teams do.

I think u should look further back at uga classes, i think they have the oline pretty stacked up compared to us having one cycle of getting two top guys guys, and its still june so time will tell if they stack another top guy again. Its a big difference

But again its stupid to compare us to uga, texas i understand tho
Texas $$ > Miami $

We are speaking the same language. Winning is everything. We can land three five star commits by August and they will still bounce if we look anything like last year.

I’m just trying to provide an explanation for the dramatic drop-off in OT recruiting from one year to the next. The drop off is not the same at other positions, and in some cases (DL) we are recruiting way better than last year.

I don’t think these guys forgot how to recruit five star linemen. It’s just a weaker crop, and the few big-time prospects don’t want to wait their turn at an unproven program. Add to it that we aren’t allocating money to OL as @AtlAtty has been saying and you have a lot of developmental kids. The good news is that Mirabal is a good developer and evaluator.

Agree w/ u, & the other good news or maybe I should say silver lining is that a lot of our OLmen came on board in July - ESD/NSD since Mario has been here. I know we have the attention of many, but many r seeing what’s what from what I heard. We’re being blitzed by negative recruiting from all over.

Some of us have been saying that Morehead followed up with Gattis and that season was extremely damaging. Not everyone believed it at first but I think a lot of people have come around to it after seeing how we can’t land in the top tier thus far at WR and QB. If ever there was a season where we need to show something, it’s this one. And if not, we’re dead. Mario will not be able to overcome that on the trail so this season has a lot riding on it.

FOLLOW THE MONEY
We are not investing NIL into Oline this year like we did last year. This year it’s Dline. Next year I bet it will be a big time QB
Gibson will eat a big chunk of the budget if we get him.
Its all about the money.

IMO there are no great recruiters. There are lots of good recruiters who mistakenly get labeled as great or terrible depending on much money they have at their disposal. You think Hartline was great before OSU paid for all those receivers?
You think Trob won people over with his personality?

MONEY, MONEY AND MONEY has always run college sports.
You think John Wooden was great? No, he was very good and Sam ______ bought John the players he needed to win.
Duke bought players for Coach K

I can give you a million examples of how good became great or terrible depending on the money behind them.

So there is no mystery to why we aren’t recruting 5 star tackles. We are allocating funds in different places this year.
Sayin there are no great recruiters is absurd.

We are talking about OL. I dont need to see all that crap u posted when Manny was here. Kirby has been there since 2016. They do not stack classes like we did last cycle every season, should it not be easy for them to do? They played in 3 str8 national title games winning 2. But yet they do not because every cycle.is a different focus. Keep lying though.

They’re channeling the NIL $ towards the DL - across the DL. I’m assuming that Ahfua is the big target on the OL and he’s a guard.

Hold up; HOLD THEE ABSOLUTE BLUE FCK UP:

So lemme get this straight:
We have two OL in Francis & Samson who are “allegedly” scaring off OTs, & NIL $$ is dried up on OL, but somehow the recruitments of Moss, Kelly, Bain, Wayne, & Acheampong ain’t scaring off **** near the whole DL class of 2024 b/c NIL is flush & free flowing for them?

OLmen get injured all the time b/c it’s a grueling, thankless position; yet, we have TWO guys scaring off others, but not the 5, young guys??

Man, listen…Imma see myself out of this. Lol

So we should expect a big DL class filled w/ blue chips, small OL class filled w/ great evaluated 3 stars who may need development, but development is a good thing, correct? Oh, and apparently now Miami fans r star whores, after we’ve been told we don’t have talent. Lol

Ya’ll beautiful ppl have a great, & prosperous day. It’s hard to keep up w/ new trends, narratives. I also want to apologize to @Cliffordk for boring him w/ this discussion. U fine folks pls carry on.

I posted only OLmen! Wtf r u talking about?? I posted OL from the classes of 2021-2023 ONLY!

Who in thee absolute FCK said anything about UGA bringing in 5* every cycle?? Do u like to make up chit to make urself sound smart or nah? & did u really just say they do not stack classes every cycle??

Aye @RVACane there’s gotta be some way ya’ll can either do a virtual drug or breathalyzer test b4 ppl post on here.

And. I’m. Talking. About. The. Narrative.

U know what, nvm. Got it. 👍🏾
You raised NIL money drying up at OT. Yes. Right now that’s not where it’s going. Hopefully they use some on the guard Ahfua but I have not heard any chatter about negotiations with OT’s and big $. l’ve heard plenty regarding the DL.

Yet when peoplw showed yall the class UGA brought in after their elite class and also what Texas brought in after theirs, it tracts exactly like what we are doing. But yall dont care about that. Nope, it only happens to Miami in your minds. To say its not a factor is being willfully ignorant. You cant compare positions where they rotate alot to ones where only injuries cause most players to miss snap. Also UGA has 616 and 863 ranked OTs committed right now
Are you talking about UGA current class and their 2 commits? If so those are their developmental guys and I said I don’t have an issue taking a few of those. However, don’t just look at who they have committed but who they’re bringing in for OV’s in the month of June.

They are bringing in 10 other OL for OVs in June with only one outside of the top 264 players and 3 of those guys are inside the top 100, including Brandon Baker who’s allegedly “scared off by Francis and Samson”. Meanwhile we’re bringing in 4 with only 1 inside the top 588, with Ahfua at 98 while having cancelled multiple OL visits.

As for Texas big OL class, they signed 7 OL that year of which 2 were 5 stars, another guy at 91, next 3 guys were 269, 362, 407 and the last guy at 600. Aside from our 2 Five stars our next guys were at 565, 707 and 1093. We’re not the same yet they followed that up with 193, 411, 556, 611 and 821. That’s a solid class considering what they signed the year before and no it “doesn’t track with exactly what we’re doing”.

In any event, I never said we have to sign 5 star on top of 5 star or that we should be recruiting at the level of UGA, Texas or Bama, OSU or anyone else. What I said is that it’s a BS narrative to say we’re not trending that well with OL recruiting because we signed 2 elite guys last year. Because just like I know that you don’t rotate a lot on the OL, I also know 5 guys play that position at one time and no matter how elite Francis and Samson are, there’s going to be another 3 guys playing at the same time. As I said, our interior OL recruiting doesn’t look very good right now either. Now regardless of how elite I may think our OL class was last year, we need to follow that up with a solid class. If we follow that up with a weak class it will be a disappointment. That goes for OL or any other position. If not we’re just going to be plugging holes every class. Again, I think there’s still time and we’ll get it turnaround but it’s a lame excuse.

Not even Okunlola is a day-one starter is he?
He was running 2nd team LT in the Spring. Samson Okunlola is a beast but the most immediate thing keeping him from being a Day 1 starter is upper body strength. With our S&C program Samson can make great strides in a 4 month period but most likely he will take over sometime during the season. Barring injury I think the 2024 season is when he really breaks out.

You make some great points and overall we are both on the same page. A few thoughts however....

I'm in complete agreement about following up a great OL class with another. It's common knowledge that the 2024 OL market isn't as strong as 2023 and that we signed 2 5 star Tackles in Mauigoa and Okunlola plus Kinsler and the rest. We still need to follow that up with a very good OL class particularly on the interior. When it comes to OL evaluations and OL in general I have faith in and a great deal of respect for Cristobal and Mirabal. I know they are going to put together a very good complementary class to follow last years.

In terms of current OL recruits being scared off by our 2 freshman studs I'm not particularly surprised but I'm not really concerned either. I know that other programs like Alabama, Georgia, Clemson and whoever else have no problem getting 5 star OL to sign the year after signing 5 star OL but those programs are established winners who compete for national titles annually. At this stage in the rebuilding of this program we can't necessarily expect that. I agree with @DMoney that right now our best selling point is playing time plus playing for the best OL staff in the nation. We can't yet point to recent multiple championships and recent multiple 1st round picks. I do truly believe we will get there but we're not there yet. Just look at the Wilfong thread about what every big time recruit had to say about their OVs this past weekend. What they are describing paints a picture that is literally night and day compared to the last few staffs. UM is finally treating this program seriously and investing top dollar and the recruits not only notice but they have been blown away.

Another point is like you said, there is this narrative making the rounds that says we are not recruiting well at OL because of Mauigoa and Okunlola. I agree with you that it is BS. Are we recruiting the OL at the same level as last year? No of course not but it's not necessarily because of our 2 stud OL recruits last year. Number 1 like I mentioned above this years OL market isn't as strong so we are going to rely on great evals and body types/multi sport athletes who the staff thinks have a great ceiling. I'm good with that because I'm sure that when it's all said and done that we will be happy with this years haul. Secondly is a point that not enough seem to be considering. We are in Mario's 2nd year and right now his primary focus is turning over the roster while infusing it with as much talent as possible. When he got here this roster was in very bad shape. His first full recruiting class had an emphasis on the OL because it is the foundation and because our OL was garbage. We signed the best OL class in the nation and complemented that with Cohen and Lee from the portal. This year we are concentrating on the DL because like OL it is a foundation. The point being that once the staff has replenished the weakest position groups and we finish the rebuilding phase then they will be able to take a broader approach to recruiting.

In a few years I sincerely believe that we will be able to begin stacking 5 star talent at the same positions in consecutive years. When Mario got hired I knew that he would recruit well but I had no idea that he would be as prolific as he is proving to be. My concerns were about staff and game day coaching/philosophy. I knew Mario would need to surround himself with the best staff possible and that he would also have to change the negative perception that he destroyed QBs because his offense were boring ground and pound systems from the 90s. We know what happened last year and what an abortion Gattis and the offense were but that entire fiasco could turn out to be a huge blessing in disguise. Why? Well because of the fact that the results were so bad and Gattis and the offense were such a complete and utter disaster that the whole thing served to totally repudiate Mario's philosophy. This slammed his in the face with reality allowing him to have his "Come to Jesus" moment. As a result he cleaned house on staff and hired 2 excellent coordinators in Guidry and Dawson. We still have to play out this season and hope that Dawson and a healthy TVD show recruits around the nation that this offense is both very effective and fun to watch/play in. Chance Robinson committed after he watched the Spring game because he loved what he saw from Dawson. I personally think that this years offense will be night and day from last years Clown Show. We haven't seen Dawson's offense live yet in addition to coming off of being 5-7 and we are still in the very thick of it with multiple 4 and 5 star WRs. Imagine how we could recruit coming off of 8 or 9 wins with an exciting offense?

You must got the wrong guy lol i rarely posted here when manny was here and its not a lie I literally just checked lol they have landed classes like we did with multiple high rated olineman and probably will again its not that its a different focus its just each class of recruits is different and they have years of depth we dont

I mistakenly quoted you. In any case, everyone wants to stack 5 star OL every class. I take issue with yall saying they stack 5 star OL every class. Its simply not true. They do their share of developmental players. We brought in 4 tackles in 2 years. If they can recruit McCoy and Cooper who had no national ranking and are already better than 4 star players Manny recruited why would i be on here crying all day? And when people point out that the big schools dont just bring in 5 star OL every cycle. Yall make excuses. In addition @DMoney started this thread to address TACKLE recruiting specifically. Yet yall know for a fact that playing time is not proving a problem there. Because u feel like it.

If you’re referring to Mike Williams He just committed to the Gators after being dropped by the *****. Dude doesn’t appear to be very good.
