Tackle recruiting

Wiltfong disagrees with you. He said it was the best class last year on his show yesterday. You can argue top two between us and Bama and I think that’s reasonable. Regardless, the big money is going elsewhere. I still believe that we should be landing interior OL guys and I’m fairly surprised at our inability to land our main center targets two cycles straight.
Wiltfong isn't Bible.

Texas had a better class. Period.

@RVACane is just referring to last years class, not all time. Wiltfong was saying that Miami’s OL class last year was the best of that year.
I think he’s talking about last year because he said “last cycle” and that’s what my post was about. Our class last year isn’t better than Texas’ previous class.

Great discussion, debate, points and posting!

I'm exhausted lol... Just hoping for 8+ wins so all of this goes away. Unless Dawson or TVD shyts the bed, I personally can't see why we won't hit 8+. So we may take a small step back in OL recruiting in 2024 where the talent is less pervasive anyway, and we'll be back on track for a massive haul in 2025. Meanwhile, let's pull in the big uglies along the DL this summer!

This!

But it IS the case even with the blue bloods. TX had an OL class similar to ours but a year earlier in 2022. Last year they followed that up with a mostly project based class. Top rated lineman was #193 and the second rated was #411.

Georgia picked up just one top 100 Olineman in 2022. Second best was #353 overall.

Last year Clemsons top OL recruit was #263 in the nation.

Michigan 2022... Best Oline recruit in their class was #678 (no typo) nationally.

And on top of that, why on earth would we be expected to recruit to the level of Bama, Georgia and Ohio st at this stage of the rebuild? Those are the three best teams this decade and huge blue blood programs.
Not expected to recruit like them at this stage, but we have to stack enough talent to be competitive with those guys. Definitely stack enough to make the ACCCG.

Question for those in the know. How far does negative recruiting run? I'd assume the pitch is a combination of Mario's coaching, no stadium, and the school's recent failures. Is there more? The comment one of the posters made the other day about a recruit being surprised at how nice the campus is stood out to me.

other than Texas, those teams are competing for championships.

We are competing to be over 6 wins. Some of y’all are delusional
How you gotta start somewhere. Also if that’s the case. How did BAMA win the MNC in Saban’s second year? After an 7-6 record. He had to have some talent and convince someone to come BAMA after that record.

For y’all at OT in particular schools are gonna point out the fact that y’all just signed a pair of extremely talented tackles and that PT is going to be an issue for anyone who signs behind them (they’ll obviously phrase this in a way to as not offend the kid)

L-O-L

U know what makes me crack up on CIS? It’s the bipolar nature of comments like this.

One minute it’s “we need to stack chips.” The next minute it’s “CIS is star whores.” The next minute it’s “UGA & Bama has all the talent.” The next minute it’s “U can’t trust 247 rankings.” The next minute it’s “We don’t have enough talent.” The next minute it’s “These 3-stars are all beast, I trust the coaches evaluations.” The next minute it’s “how can we compete w teams like Duke, when we don’t have enough talent?”

By far, this is what I love about fans; the irrational, change w the wind, nature. No one, lemme not speak for the board, I’m not crapping on any recruit who signs here; what I’m cramping on is the narratives of why blue chips spurn us vs. keeping it 💯.
Exactly STACK THE F’ING CHIPS.

Some of us have been saying that Morehead followed up with Gattis and that season was extremely damaging. Not everyone believed it at first but I think a lot of people have come around to it after seeing how we can’t land in the top tier thus far at WR and QB. If ever there was a season where we need to show something, it’s this one. And if not, we’re dead. Mario will not be able to overcome that on the trail so this season has a lot riding on it.
I’m no Moorehead apologist nor did I want him as OC. His offense wasn’t the problem. He took that offense into the SHOE and beat the #2 team in the country. The QB after Herbert wasnt that guy. That Moorhead offense won Bowl games at PSU and Oregon. We haven’t won 1 since 16’.

I’m a huge fan of Morehead….don’t really care for the OC though

We just convinced a lot of good players to come here.

You guys need to chill out. I like Mario but he’s not Nick Saban

This thread should be closed. Gator fans must be laughing there *** off at us thinking we should be recruiting at bamas level right now after last season.

If the season goes well, it’ll change as it’s been said in every other ******* cis thread

He’s not, but he’s trying to model the program after what he saw at BAMA. He also says he’s into talent acquisition. What does Saban say? Youre not getting the best coach. You’re getting THE BEST RECRUITER. I think Mario is aiming for that.

Mario will recruit elite players regardless of record. He's an elite human being and he's charasmatic and kids like him. Doesn't matter as long as the kid likes you and trust in you.

U are not alone…we all are. I’m with you on your points and wants for the season. I’m all argued out but still extremely optimistic.
