Spring Practice dates are here!

Was the strength and conditioning really an issue under the previous staff? Too be honest it looks the same... We were always in a grudge match against our opponents and only was blowed out a few times... Our players were always among the top performers at the combine as well... We didn't have any issues as far as strength and conditioning to me... Could it been better? Of course but it wasn't a main issue...

I think the issues back then was lack of preparation... In 09 we beat FSU and then throttled the eventual ACC champs in GT but lated an egg against VT... In 08 we beat the eventual ACC champ and Orange bowl champs in VT but was embarrassed the following week against GT... 2010 we finally revenges UNC but came out so flat against UVA and lost... I can't point to a particular game where we lost a game due to conditioning but I can point to games where we didn't prepare well... Similar to the issues now...

As far as you utough, every school has it... People don't want to admit it, for some odd reason but we had an off-season workout under Shannon... Come on now... We used to always get the 40 numbers, vert, clean, bench, squat and shuttle numbers of players during his tenure as well...

My only skeptical issue is the self inflated info... I don't care who you are, everyone should not pass the conditioning test... I didnt think they were pushed hard enough... The team obviously wore down towards the end of the year... Eveyone passing the conditioning tesr, probably never happy throughout our school's history... I bet Bama didn't accomplish a feat like that but they were stronger and better ball players than we were... Also the 40 reps thing... We touted Junior Alexis for doing that, then 8 months later he's no longer a part of the program... It is a pr strategy but it is no different from what other schools have...

we were small as **** under the previous regime, go back and watch some games where we played against good opponents, we got pushed around

still not a big fan of swasey, never was, but im all for extra conditioning programs, no matter what the **** they, they can call it UGAY for all i care, i just care that they are hitting the weights and getting in shape or at least making the effort, because under shannon no one was compelled to hit they weights, the only ones who did where to ones who did it on their their own accord, and the ironic thing is those were the same guys who balled out under shannon

Glory,

You're correct. Mixed that one up with the scores of other negative posts that had more to do with UM. Just get the vibe that Pete's receiving a lot more "information" from those with axes to grind than those inside the Hecht or on the staff and it slants his views.

Has nothing to do with. You guys think Pete only gets his information from certain people but that couldn't be further from the truth.

People are just tired of losing. When we continually lose, there will be negative views about the state of the program. The fact that golden didn't make a single staff change after two horrendous years of defense also shows he's stubborn. He's out of excuses. The ncaa mess is gone, his 2011 class is now seniors, his first real recruiting class is now juniors, and it's time for him to win big or lose his job. While I believe he has Will muschamp type job security (4 wins in 2013 with no firing) for this year, if he doesn't pick it up he won't be the coach at miami anymore. No one is rooting for him to fail. We all want to win big. But people put the green and orange shades to the side and look at reality, and reality is that we are not making significant progress.

Yes, we went from 6 to 7 to 9, but last season was filled with horrible games. We barely beat inferior opponents, and looked completely inept on the defensive side of the ball. It was the easiest schedule we've had in a while and we couldn't make it to the ACC championship game. When we had two chances to seal the deal.

LOL at using that bolded part as a bullet point in a condescending post about "reality". Assigning that recruiting class to him as part of a larger point = agenda.

Of course it's agenda. It's not like I didn't write in the next line that the 2012 is his first real class

The reality is, its not a valid bullet point in your laundry list.

Doesn't take orange and green shades to realize that the 2011 class being seniors is actually a way of defending Golden, not proving that "he's out of excuses". Unless you believe that the group of jags that he scrambled to sign (because of Randy "passive-aggressive" Shannon's sabotage) should suddenly become non-jags because they're now seniors.

THAT'S reality, my friend.

That argument would be valid if we didn't see results from conditioning tests when Golden got here, but we did. And they weren't pretty.

When Golden came in, the team was struggling to pass S&C tests. Now we have everyone passing. It's not because the tests got easier, it's because players are improving.

Don't they all, anymore.

The clowns keep repeating each other's drivel. Repeated often enough, they come to believe it.

Somebody tell them that there's a national clown shortage.

Yup, ventured over here for the first time in months to see how the team is coming along with the workouts, and it sure did disappoint. No real info, just back and forth *****ing by fans on both sides of the "UTough" line, like we can't admit it's an improvement on our previous regime's S&C but not some Earth-shattering revelation of physical fitness.

I'll just head back to the WEZ for some **** and name calling.

I think this is a bit of an exaggeration... We weren't all that small for the type of players we brought in... Most of our backers and DE's were a bit on the small side when we recruited them but then again our staff were placing emphasis on speed as opposed to size... We were bring in more backers between the 190-200 lb range as opposed to the backers Golden is bringing in... That being said, our guys were always among the top prospects at the combine... So strength wasn't an issue... Our guys really wasn't pushed around that often... Outside a few games there were only a hand full of blowouts during his 4 year tenure...

Reality is relived yearly on the day of the NFL draft as it will once again this year with no defensive players being drafted. Bring all the Duke, VT **** you want but Miami football is not built on coaching up CFL guys, I've never seen a good Miami defense that didnt have a 1-2 rd draft pick, has anyone? regardless of coach

We had midgets like Holmes playing DT! McCray was 5-11 290, and we even had to plat Moncur at DT weighing around 250lbs. It wasn't just DE and backer.

Come on... You're really going to use Spence? Wasn't he hurt during the combine? And if he was weak, what does it say about our team now? A weak linebacker has been the best defensive player we have had in 4 years... That's a bad example... If thats the example you used then what is the purpose of urough? Our oline struggled with athleticism in passing situations but we ran the ball quite well in 09 and 2010... Didn't Berry have like 6 straight 100 yard games before injury? We never really got pushed around... We lacked athleticism on the line but it wasn't like we were inferior strength wise... Look at the combine numbers... Our guys matched up well with anyone... Like I said, aside from recruiting bigger players there hasn't really been that much of a difference... We continue to play down to our opponents and our teams continue struggle down the stretch of the season...

Yea you're right... However even those two undersized prospects held their own against their opponents...

Despite the apparent lack of strength on our team during that tenure our players were always amongst the top in the NFL combine for all events that measured speed, explosion or strength.

However...

There's no doubt in my mind that the kids work harder under this regime. I know that for a fact. I have a kid who played for both coaches.

It's really funny to watch guys a message board pretend they know what goes on with Miami's S@C program. Then make silly claims like we look small only to watch miami's guys go to the combine and perform just as good or better than everyone else.

I don't think the ncaa had a big of an impact as golden says it did. Either way, he will have to put out a better product on the field but I'm not holding my breath. With this schedule I say 7-8 wins next year.

LMAO, really you don't think the ncaa ordeal didnt have a big impact. WOW!!

I said it didn't have as big of an impact as golden said it did. Of course it had an impact, off the field, pr wise and recruiting. But did the ncaa make us have a third down completion perctnage of 35 last year, which is 96th in the nation. Did the ncaa mess make us 69th in scoring defense? Did the ncaa make us 89 in the nation with opponent red zone attempts a game? Did the ncaa make us 89th in the nation for opponent completion perctnage with 61.87%?

Source: http://www.teamrankings.com/college-football/stat/opponent-completion-pct[/QUOTE]

It was actually a couple of things.
1. Devoid in veteran talent.
2. Trying to implement a scheme without the talent and experience needed to successfully run it.

It really isn't that hard to figure out why the defense has sucked.

I always LOL'd at the "we look small" garbage.

The HC I coached for had a buddy who was a GA on the USF team that beat us in Shannon's last game. The GA said that Miami looked like a **** NFL team, they weren't sure how the **** they'd match-up with Miami's athletes, and if anybody can ever "get those kids to play" that they'd be unstoppable.

We only "looked small" to people with an agenda. And the few kids we had that were undersized WERE RECRUITED LIKE THAT.

We had guys go to the NFL combine and measure better than most kids from LSU and Bama, who are both considered to have top-notch S&C programs.

Were we gonna have one of the strongest teams top to bottom? No. Miami never has. We always sacrificed brute strength for speed and explosion. What we saw during the Shannon era was a lack of talent and more importantly a lack of effort and coaching.

What we're doing now is putting more of an emphasis on strength and we're bulking our guys up. Our kids are probably gonna do great at the combine in bench tests. Who wants to bet me that we're much slower though?
