Spring Practice dates are here!

Was the strength and conditioning really an issue under the previous staff? Too be honest it looks the same... We were always in a grudge match against our opponents and only was blowed out a few times... Our players were always among the top performers at the combine as well... We didn't have any issues as far as strength and conditioning to me... Could it been better? Of course but it wasn't a main issue...

I think the issues back then was lack of preparation... In 09 we beat FSU and then throttled the eventual ACC champs in GT but lated an egg against VT... In 08 we beat the eventual ACC champ and Orange bowl champs in VT but was embarrassed the following week against GT... 2010 we finally revenges UNC but came out so flat against UVA and lost... I can't point to a particular game where we lost a game due to conditioning but I can point to games where we didn't prepare well... Similar to the issues now...

As far as you utough, every school has it... People don't want to admit it, for some odd reason but we had an off-season workout under Shannon... Come on now... We used to always get the 40 numbers, vert, clean, bench, squat and shuttle numbers of players during his tenure as well...

My only skeptical issue is the self inflated info... I don't care who you are, everyone should not pass the conditioning test... I didnt think they were pushed hard enough... The team obviously wore down towards the end of the year... Eveyone passing the conditioning tesr, probably never happy throughout our school's history... I bet Bama didn't accomplish a feat like that but they were stronger and better ball players than we were... Also the 40 reps thing... We touted Junior Alexis for doing that, then 8 months later he's no longer a part of the program... It is a pr strategy but it is no different from what other schools have...

we were small as **** under the previous regime, go back and watch some games where we played against good opponents, we got pushed around

still not a big fan of swasey, never was, but im all for extra conditioning programs, no matter what the **** they, they can call it UGAY for all i care, i just care that they are hitting the weights and getting in shape or at least making the effort, because under shannon no one was compelled to hit they weights, the only ones who did where to ones who did it on their their own accord, and the ironic thing is those were the same guys who balled out under shannon

I think this is a bit of an exaggeration... We weren't all that small for the type of players we brought in... Most of our backers and DE's were a bit on the small side when we recruited them but then again our staff were placing emphasis on speed as opposed to size... We were bring in more backers between the 190-200 lb range as opposed to the backers Golden is bringing in... That being said, our guys were always among the top prospects at the combine... So strength wasn't an issue... Our guys really wasn't pushed around that often... Outside a few games there were only a hand full of blowouts during his 4 year tenure...

Spence couldnt bench for **** at the combine, our O-line was small, got pushed around, like i said the kids that lifted on their own were the ones from shannons era to excel

Come on... You're really going to use Spence? Wasn't he hurt during the combine? And if he was weak, what does it say about our team now? A weak linebacker has been the best defensive player we have had in 4 years... That's a bad example... If thats the example you used then what is the purpose of urough? Our oline struggled with athleticism in passing situations but we ran the ball quite well in 09 and 2010... Didn't Berry have like 6 straight 100 yard games before injury? We never really got pushed around... We lacked athleticism on the line but it wasn't like we were inferior strength wise... Look at the combine numbers... Our guys matched up well with anyone... Like I said, aside from recruiting bigger players there hasn't really been that much of a difference... We continue to play down to our opponents and our teams continue struggle down the stretch of the season...

Yes that is a perfect example, guys from crappy colleges, that had worse facilities, lifted more than him, wide outs lifted more than him, that is unacceptable, and he wasnt injured. watch those games again when we played teams with decent D-lines we got pushed back, the S&C was horrible

Poor example. spence was hurt. Funny that you'd focus on that one example while ignoring the countless others that prove otherwise.

He was hurt and you know it... And there is no way you can complain about his production... We have had 2 seasons since he left for the NFL and none of our backers despite lifting more is better than Spence... Your argument is false and silly... Even if Spence was as weak as you said, what does that say about Utough? It's saying that despite our players being vastly superior in strength to a "weak" Spence, he impacted the game at a level these players can't match... You're practically saying Utough is useless...

That being said, your exaggeration of the state of the program is making you look a bit silly... I mean go in look at our players combine numbers from 09-12... The performed quite well and was among the to prospects in Indy... But serious man... Spence? At least argue Holton or Futch... Argue Kylan Robinson but not our most productive linebacker in the last 5 years... It was widely known he was hurt during the combine...

I'm truly flabbergasted that the thread lauderdaleballer shows up in is the one slamming Shannon and Swasey, and is littered with an abundance of embarrassingly poorly written defenses of two of the biggest fraud coaches in college football.

Our players in the later Coker years, and under Shannon and Golden lack functional football strength. Swasey is the biggest cancer this program has ever had.

How you can watch this team of the last 10 years and think we are ok in the S and C department is just astonishing to me.

What's astonishing is how you can feel so strongly about an area you know very little about. How mich stronger were these teams compared to the 2001 team? Can you show me raw numbers? All I know is when Miami players went to the nfl combine they performed just as good or better than their peers. That tells me there are other issues.

lol, the staff writers and admins here are salty as **** for some reason. You guys need a vacation.

This is all I'm saying... I never said the program was perfect... I said S&C wasn't the problem with the prior staff... Our guys were strong and conditioned then as well... We were only blew out out a few Ted and always played a tough game... Even the horrible 07 season... I believe we were blew out 3 times but win or loss we hung in there until the end... Our losses were due to preparation, coaching and mental errors... Similar to what we are experiencing now... I think what some our fans need to admit is that there hasn't been much of a change regarding the previous staff and Golden...

We had midgets like Holmes playing DT! McCray was 5-11 290, and we even had to plat Moncur at DT weighing around 250lbs. It wasn't just DE and backer.

Yep. We were smaller and didn't work as hard under Shannon. But we stopped opponents' offenses a lot better.

Shannon had much more nfl type talent on his teams. That overcame a lack of strength and endurance. The disjointed recruiting that had Josh Holmes starting at DT and Brian Monroe having to take snaps at WR undermined Shannon the most. He was an awful CEO, but I don't think he was That far off from much better years.

hey im not saying any good things about the staff, we should have played some kids instead of the ones that were on the field, not denying that, but my argument is not silly, not that many of shannons guys are doing well in the NFL, and spences lifting was a joke, and what other prospects from those years looked good in the combine and got them drafted high, miller dropped, streeter dropped, jacory lol, mcgee?, ray ray?, where they all injured too, did they move up with all of their so called combine results, im not exaggerating at all when players themselves say they never went to workouts thats on the coaches, to add all im saying is that im all for more conditioning compared to how it was from the previous regime

Actually all the players you named were among the top performers at the combine... Your argument is still flawed... Ray Ray didn't get an invite and missed an entire season of football... I believe Miller also struggles with a shoulder injury which was a reason he dropped... However, he was one of the fastest prospects at the combine along with TS... McGee followed them the following year with a good showing at the combine... Jacory even had a good showing in the combine...

I don't get your argument... You say we were weak and lacking condition... I refute your claim by stating that we played to the bitter end in all of our games with the exception if a few. I also refute your claims by stating our combine performers contradict your observations... But what do you do? You list a bunch of players who performed well at the combine... Oh and lets not forget that players like Bailey, Cmac, Graham, Franklin, Harris and Dsharp were top performers and strength was not an issue...

Well if your argument is underachieving then I definitely agree... However, that had nothing to do with strength and conditioning because our guys collectively were always the most athletic guys on the field... That being said, the underachievement is do to not being prepared and not managing the team correctly... I can't say Swadeu sucks because his results show at pro day and the combine... He only does what he's instructed to do... That being said, the team not being focus, prepared, and out coached is not on him... These were the same issues with the previous regime...

MiamiNights welcome back! NewKirk didn't last, let's see how long this name does.

I know more about physical development than Swasey, who has ZERO training in the field. The team is incapable of being both fast and powerful. It's either fast and weak, or slow and stout. It's a 1980s level program.

Anybody who knows ANYTHING about modern S and C will tell you that bench press numbers tell you very little about functional football power.

It's a very simple physics equation: force = mass x acceleration. The question isn't can out guys dead lift and bench press. It's can they efficiently generate explosive force, while maintaining or improving speed and flexibility, and sustaining that force for four quarters. It's not as simple as "who can bench the most".

thats all i was saying, we were underachieving, my point i was getting across was that they werent forced as much as they were now to start hitting the weights and get in better conditioned, we were the most athletic teams yes but there were sometimes we got out muscled, all i was saying the culture was different

Hate to say it but I can't get excited. Maybe I'm just getting older and have been through to many spring seasons and understand that utough doesn't mean ****. Every school in the nation is doing the same ****. Now if you were telling me that we are doing UCoach and learning some different schemes I might get excited. 1st year in my life I'm just going through the motions as a fan. I'm a beaten fan. I'm still waiting for the cloud to be lifted as a fan.

all of this.

we are going 7-5 at best. 5-7 is very realistic
