Spring Practice dates are here!

First of all, there's a huge myth that UTough is an everyday thing... it's not. They only have it on Mondays and Wednesdays. Secondly, the camera people are trained to get the most "dramatic" moments of workouts. Most people think it's a PR fraud. Cameras are shoved in the players' faces in the middle of what is supposed to be some life-changing conditioning work.

doesnt surprise me. more used car salesman tactics

So...where is the spring ball coverage again?

This.

Can we get something worthwhile posted on this board for a change? I mean all this petty bickering bull**** that has been going on for 2 months is awesome, but give me some substance...

Honestly thats surprising. I played in college and knew that UTough is just another name for winter conditioning. Ours was 3 days per week and was absolute ****. On the field by 5:30, 8 stations non stop for an hour finishing off the workouts with 15-20 60yd sprints and up downs. Effing horrible. I still have nightmares about it.
yup I played d2 and it was the same way for me. F'ing horrible.

Winter Conditioning were the worse days of my college life...NOBODY LIKES IT....it isnt a pr stunt...

That sh&t is REAL....5AM lifting and running on diff days....and we also @ my school went some saturdays...for SPRINTING/TRACK type workouts..........this is the time o the year where football players say bye bye to the girlfriend and college life....man i was happy for spring practice to start..lol

Pete,

When you say U-Tough is not an everyday thing, what are you saying? Are you saying they only life on Mondays and Wednesdays? Or is the actual U-Tough Program done on Mondays and Wednesdays with other lifting on the other days?

I always LOL'd at the "we look small" garbage.

The HC I coached for had a buddy who was a GA on the USF team that beat us in Shannon's last game. The GA said that Miami looked like a **** NFL team, they weren't sure how the **** they'd match-up with Miami's athletes, and if anybody can ever "get those kids to play" that they'd be unstoppable.

We only "looked small" to people with an agenda. And the few kids we had that were undersized WERE RECRUITED LIKE THAT.

We had guys go to the NFL combine and measure better than most kids from LSU and Bama, who are both considered to have top-notch S&C programs.

Were we gonna have one of the strongest teams top to bottom? No. Miami never has. We always sacrificed brute strength for speed and explosion. What we saw during the Shannon era was a lack of talent and more importantly a lack of effort and coaching.

What we're doing now is putting more of an emphasis on strength and we're bulking our guys up. Our kids are probably gonna do great at the combine in bench tests. Who wants to bet me that we're much slower though?

I agree with most of your post, but can we please put the myth to bed that bigger must = slower? My brother went to play college football, put on 40 pounds and shaved .3 off his 40 time.

You know.....it is possible to get bigger-->stronger-->more explosive-->faster.

It is possible, but our team overall doesn't look more explosive. They just look bigger.

And our 40 times from last year seem to paint that picture also.

No ****. The same thing happened to me in college. There's a limit though. Guys like Chickillo and Perryman are not gonna get faster while gaining as much weight as we've allowed them to gain. Every athlete's frame has a limit. Your brother probably had the frame to gain 40 pounds and stay fast. Chick should not be 280lbs and short-*** Perryman should not be 240+.

Oh great, another thread sidetracked by the arguments of the staff and the members. Can we get some real news in here?

I'm really surprised Pete jumped in on this with such negativity. If people have a problem with the name Utough then their idiots. Every single school brands their workout program with some dumb slogan and has winter conditioning. This is not new. I'm not thrilled with Golden and his staff either but an 11 page thread about the "farce" that is Utough is just showing the ignorance of some posters who will just make stuff up to make themselves feel better.

Co-signed. Seems like nowadays (and this thread is a perfect example), we can't mention any bit of somewhat positive Canes news on here without it turning into a Golden/NoDFrio/Shalala/Blake James bashing-fest.

Being realistic about our program's issues is one thing. Being a negative sh1thead 24/7 is another.
