i'm not sure where people are drawing the line between the "UTOUGH" promos and actual strength and conditioning.

i suppose you can argue that UTOUGH promos are stupid and don't accomplish anything. you can say that it's dumb and isn't impacting play on the field. all it really does is provide some content for the fans.

i don't think you can argue that the strength and conditioning of this team hasn't improved, though. i don't think you can say that it is all a marketing ploy or some gimmick. the numbers are speaking for themselves and guys all over the depth chart are getting stronger.

now, are they in such amazing physical shape that we should expect to win every game? definitely not.

however, i'd rather lose in great shape than lose in bad shape. it's one less thing that we can pinpoint as being off about the program right now. strength and conditioning, IMO, is not the reason why we're losing games at this point and i don't think many people would say that it is.

Lol, even the staff writers are going in on the program before the season has even started. At least wait till the season starts before we start bashing the guys and their workout regime. I'll be highly skeptical of doing interviews for guys who already assumed our season is a bust. What's done is done, can't change the 2013 season. All we have to look forward to is the upcoming season. Lets hope that these guys (players, coaches) are putting in the necessary work to be more competitive this year. Pretty sad when a workout(UTough) thread becomes a thread about how useless the workout program is. To those staff writers that think its a joke, why don't you interview Perryman, Aqm, Feliciano, etc...and tell them what a joke of a workout they are doing; and also let them know that their season is pretty much done before it has started. Kind of confuse by this site, we interview recruits and encourage them to check out this site, but it seems like every good thread gets derailed and becomes anti-Miami on here. Just let the season play out.

You act like just because the season ended that all is well and new and that everyone should forget everything we've seen for the last 3 years. Doesn't work that way, mojombo. Opinions that are formed over time are not wiped away just because there's a new season on the horizon.

anybody got any REAL updates on UTOUGH? I'd like to see before and after Max's on Bench, Cleans, Squats..ect.

Im not saying the debacle that has taken place the last few seasons should be forgotten. We all are fans and are fully aware of these things. But, every thread no matter what the subject, is turned into something negative. Some fans really want to know how some of the guys are holding up during the winter conditioning program.

I agree in the end of the shannon era and beginning of the Golden regime there were games were we weren't strong enough to compete. Last year was the first year that I thought we weren't at that disadvantage. However, we did lack athletics among the upperclassmen and we were outschemed in the Duke and Lousiville games, where I think the team became frustrated and quit after the lack of execution. Now some posters might confuse those games for being out matched in strength/physicality games but I def think it was the latter.

The off season program under Golden is a positive improvement from Shannon. I understand the negativity, but I'm giving Golden a clean slate. I'm with Glory though, excuse time is over. Next year is the perfect year to overachieve, now lets actually see it. Starts with QB, Morris regressing was a very big factor in the way the season played out.

I don't think the ncaa had a big of an impact as golden says it did. Either way, he will have to put out a better product on the field but I'm not holding my breath. With this schedule I say 7-8 wins next year.[/QUOTE]

LMAO, really you don't think the ncaa ordeal didnt have a big impact. WOW!!

I said it didn't have as big of an impact as golden said it did. Of course it had an impact, off the field, pr wise and recruiting. But did the ncaa make us have a third down completion perctnage of 35 last year, which is 96th in the nation. Did the ncaa mess make us 69th in scoring defense? Did the ncaa make us 89 in the nation with opponent red zone attempts a game? Did the ncaa make us 89th in the nation for opponent completion perctnage with 61.87%?

This made no sense...In your own words you stated how the NCAA mess had a direct effect on recruiting...Well how do those recruits not effect what happens on the field? Every 2 and 3 star player can't and won't be developed into a 4 and 5 star player...Lesser talent equals lesser production and quality...

No. I'm saying we lost a kid here because of it, but it's not like we lost Matthew Thomas, Amari cooper, Collins, Bostwik, Bryant, etc etc because of it. And say we got two of those guys on the list, the numbers I listed aren't improving vastly. The stats speak for themselves. To summarize, the ncaa did have a negative impact on pr, recruiting, and such but it can't be used as an excuse to justify those numbers. If we can finish the 2012 getting McCord, Tracy, and deon when the ncaa uncertainty was at it's PEAK, why couldn't we finish like that in 2013. That and other reasons are why I don't believe the ncaa mess didn't allow us to secure blue chip recruits.

Why didn't we lose those kids because of it? Anthony Moten just this year was going to go to Florida because of the ncaa stuff...Come on now...The stats you speak of correlate with upperclass talent I.E. quarterback and defensive line...Which last I checked were all previously recruited...Now if the stats speak the same after this year then I will agree with you as this year is all Goldens recruits...But the stats you speak of is where grown men are required to play those positions...

Anthony Moten was not going to Florida over miami because of the ncaa mess. Idc what golden said. And you can ask Canefordays who is the sta guy on this board. Moten flipped because of the news on the ncaa? That's why he decommitted from UF on July 20th? When our report didn't come till October 22nd? And Moten himself said he made the move due to playing time.

Man you can believe whatever you want. But if you think Moten flipped because of the ncaa report coming out, and if you believe the ncaa is the reason we were TERRIBLE on defense... idk what else to tell you. The stats and truth is right in front of your face.

Anthony Moten was goin to Florida because UF recruited him very hard and he grew up liking them. Had nothin to do with miami. It had a small effect but that isn't the reason he made the switch. He also decommitted from Florida and was a HEAVY miami lean as soon as he decommitted

Spot f.ucking on. Do you guys remember the strength and conditioning of this team under Shannon? Like really go back and watch some 2nd halfs of games of that era and you'll throw up. The conditioning of this team is not the issue right now. We've made huge strides under Golden in that department. Now winning games.........

Was the strength and conditioning really an issue under the previous staff? Too be honest it looks the same... We were always in a grudge match against our opponents and only was blowed out a few times... Our players were always among the top performers at the combine as well... We didn't have any issues as far as strength and conditioning to me... Could it been better? Of course but it wasn't a main issue...

I think the issues back then was lack of preparation... In 09 we beat FSU and then throttled the eventual ACC champs in GT but lated an egg against VT... In 08 we beat the eventual ACC champ and Orange bowl champs in VT but was embarrassed the following week against GT... 2010 we finally revenges UNC but came out so flat against UVA and lost... I can't point to a particular game where we lost a game due to conditioning but I can point to games where we didn't prepare well... Similar to the issues now...

As far as you utough, every school has it... People don't want to admit it, for some odd reason but we had an off-season workout under Shannon... Come on now... We used to always get the 40 numbers, vert, clean, bench, squat and shuttle numbers of players during his tenure as well...

My only skeptical issue is the self inflated info... I don't care who you are, everyone should not pass the conditioning test... I didnt think they were pushed hard enough... The team obviously wore down towards the end of the year... Eveyone passing the conditioning tesr, probably never happy throughout our school's history... I bet Bama didn't accomplish a feat like that but they were stronger and better ball players than we were... Also the 40 reps thing... We touted Junior Alexis for doing that, then 8 months later he's no longer a part of the program... It is a pr strategy but it is no different from what other schools have...
