Some real talk. Lots of real talk...

I'm just happy that we are finally overachieving not underachieving. We are beating teams we should and not dropping the ball all together. The talent and depth isn't there yet, but we are not that far off, I'm gonna enjoy the rest of this year though, again, nice to finally overachieve.

I just want to win the Coastal. I came into this season thinking we'd probably lose 3 or 4 games. I had no idea who we'd lose them to, but it looks like we might do better than that projection. So far, it's been a great season that's exceeded everyone's REASONABLE expectations. I'm like you; I'm just going to enjoy it from this point on. Beat Vag Tech, and win the Coastal.

Yeah, winning the coastal is a must, and was something I expected from this team as far back as the spring.

The one thing I don't understand is we keep playing 2 safeties when only RJ is playing well. Y not play our best DB's whether they are corners or safeties. TH, LG, RJ, AC, and AB should be playing. Y are we playing a hobbled Bush, and a limited Highsmith? There is no rule that says you must play 2 safeties.

Also,
i love chick. he is a true cane but he is not that good.

You're picking on the wrong guy here. Chick played a great game today and really played strong and stout. He collapsed the T into the QB several times today which prevented him from stepping up or having anywhere to escape to.

Chickillo is not a quick twitch monster pass rushing DE, and I know our fans want him to be that guy, but he plays his contain DE spot quite well. It's the other side that we have to upgrade.

Lots of good talk here, especially in regards to lack of explosive players. We just have to recruit them and turnover the roster. One thing I dont understand is why #11 doesnt play more, he seems to get close to the qb and standout much more than shayon but the coaches just LOVE shayon...

Also on Bush, when it was said his surgery for hernia was in june I made a comment that there was no way he would be back at the timetable reported. They tried to rush him back and now what we see is just bad to even have on film and a disservice to him and the team. (well maybe not the team because we have no one else.) Dude is not ready, its loate Oct this is when we should have just been bringing him along right now. He was rushed, hopefully he bounces back mentally. That injury is as much mental as anything

A healthy Gilbert is better than SG. Maybe they are saving him for the home stretch because he is injury prone. We will need that guy in Tally

Agree, Chick was in the backfield more than anyone.
What happened to McCord dude disappeared.

Good ****, Chise, as usual.

I will say this about point #3 because I think it's an important topic:

I think we came in to the game with it in mind. We gave up the quick points and they were stonewalling our run game at the beginning. I think we had to, or felt we had to, open it up a bit quicker than we wanted because our defense was struggling. We didn't get a chance to get in that early rhythm running it the way I think we wanted to. JMO though.

All that and nothing about our dreadful offense? At Home against Wake and you struggle like that scoring points?

The passing game has gone from unbelievable under Jedd Fisch to flat out atrocious under James Coley. Same freakin players. The goal line offense on your own 20 with Malcolm Lewis as the only wideout is laughable.

James Coley looks like the weakest link.

Stop it. You have a short memory. Fisch's offense blew against good teams -- KSU, ND, FSU... And it choked when it mattered in games like Virginia (lost to UNC at home too).. They aren't pasting 50 on the weakest of the weak, but so what. I can only hope their performance the last 2 weeks is the product of a team preparing for FSU and nothing else.

Three things I would like to hear about from the coaches.

-why don't we try different blitz packages

-why does it seem we are hearing every week "they showed us different things we didn't expect"

-what the **** is wrong with Morris.

I'll hang up and listen, thanks.
Excellent questions. Our coaching staff does a decent job of making in game adjustments but the last few weeks it seems like we've been caught offguard by something we "didn't expect" in the first half.

Morris simply isn't that good. Million dollar arm but poor footwork and not great at the mental aspect of the game.

1. We are still pretty slow. We lack those electric guys on offense and defense that just accelerate past people or explode into them on defense. There are too many plays where we're just too slow to get there to make the play. Looked like we were running in quick sand for much of the first half. I'm sick of hearing about Miami speed because we're more of a grinding and mauling well-conditioned team than we are a fast explosive team. We badly need an infusion of speed on both sides of the football.

Agree with everything, especially the quoted part.

We're getting there on offense, but defensively, we're not explosive. Guys like AJ, Cornileus, and Green should not be getting burn in the 4th quarter of a close game.

Yes. The D still needs a major talent upgrade. I still think we are really 2 years away from being the old Miami.

I have hope because look at a guy like Figs. He's not doing it yet because he's too young and he's kind of feeling his way around out there. But he's got that explosiveness we need. As long as guys like Cornileus, Green, AJ and even The Millionaire are getting so many reps we will never be a great defense.

We will be **** good in the secondary next year, elite if Deon can get back to full strength. Crawford is really going to develop into a player IMO. He has ups and downs but his ups are awesome. DP coming back could make our LBs a dominant group especially if Kirby develops the way we hope.

Only bummer is this insane 2014 DL/pass rush class likely will be a non factor next year. Our DL is going to need some help but still will have some strong pieces.

I agree with you guys but **** sometimes I forget these guys are STILL really young.

You are absolutely right on the 2014 DL class. I will NEVER pencil any true freshmans DL in as a difference maker. I've done it a few times and been burned every goddam time. If the great AQM is a non-factor as a true freshmans, then that's it for me. I'll never do it again. Never again count on a true freshmans to make a difference on the DL.

Good stuff Burt. I can't disagree with anything that you said. We're still a couple of years away. We're short on talent in certain areas, and even when that talent is ready, to truly be elite, we're going to need to have the quality depth as well. A win next week would be one of the bigger upsets that I've witnessed as a Cane fan.

We haven't been a heavy underdog too often over the years, big fella. So, you're absolutely right. If we pull that upset next week it'll be one of the biggest we've pulled off in a LONG time. I don't remember how heavily UCLA was favored against us, but that was a pretty big one we pulled off when Edge hung 300 on them and made them look so feeble he got them investigated by the FBI for possible point shaving.

Artie Burns did not play well today...the fourth down play and the long pass conversion. He's a freshman and it showed. If the kid wasnt a four star recruit we'd be screaming to bench him.

Artie's a prime example of where we're at right now as a program. We've got talent, but the talent is too young to be really effective. Artie in 2 years will be a beastly creature. Right now, he's merely an average player.

Part of Morris' inconsistency is his horrible footwork. He rarely plants and steps in to a throw.

I'm of the opinion at this point in his career that his bad footwork is a sign of him being flustered. He gets flustered easily, and his mechanics go out the window. Give Morris time to set up real clean, and he's incredible. When he starts feeling any sort of pressure (even if it's imagined), he completely loses his mechanics.

Miami's best shot at beating FSU will be in the conference championship game. The Canes have no shot on Saturday. FSU is miles ahead of Miami right AND they are playing lights out currently.

What a ****y mentality.

That dude's a ****. I don't think he's a UM fan.

Nothing I said is untrue. FSU is peaking and Miami is sucking balls right now. Its tough to beat teams in rematches. Right now the two teams are far apart. Best shkt will be in a conf title champ game. You guys struggle with reality.

What you said is absolutely untrue. You said the Canes have "no shot on Saturday". That's where you come off as a ****. We will be a monster underdog, but we have a shot.

The officiating was @#$%ery all game long. Terrible spotting of the ball all over the field.
