Some real talk. Lots of real talk...

1. We are still pretty slow. We lack those electric guys on offense and defense that just accelerate past people or explode into them on defense. There are too many plays where we're just too slow to get there to make the play. Looked like we were running in quick sand for much of the first half. I'm sick of hearing about Miami speed because we're more of a grinding and mauling well-conditioned team than we are a fast explosive team. We badly need an infusion of speed on both sides of the football.

Agree with everything, especially the quoted part.

We're getting there on offense, but defensively, we're not explosive. Guys like AJ, Cornileus, and Green should not be getting burn in the 4th quarter of a close game.

Yes. The D still needs a major talent upgrade. I still think we are really 2 years away from being the old Miami.

I have hope because look at a guy like Figs. He's not doing it yet because he's too young and he's kind of feeling his way around out there. But he's got that explosiveness we need. As long as guys like Cornileus, Green, AJ and even The Millionaire are getting so many reps we will never be a great defense.

Three things I would like to hear about from the coaches.

-why don't we try different blitz packages

-why does it seem we are hearing every week "they showed us different things we didn't expect"

-what the **** is wrong with Morris.

I'll hang up and listen, thanks.

I think fans are going to have to come to grips with the fact that Morris isn't who we thought he was. Everyone got sucked in by the draftniks and what he's capable of doing in gym shorts with no pass rush on him. I think we can win almost every game left on the schedule with him as long as he doesn't implode like he did against UNC. We just can't beat great teams with him playing like he did today.

He reminds me a little of the shell shocked version of Brock Berlin that was playing at the end of his first season at UM against Pitt and in the bowl game. He did enough to not kill us, but our D was way better back then. So, I guess we'll see.

Yes. And not only is Figs athletic, he's a violent hitter. That guy doesn't want to drag people down, he wants to explode through them like Perryman. We have a few guys who really HIT you and make you feel it, but not nearly enough. Teams used to get fed up with playing our D, because 3-4 psychos would come flying in there and knocking you the eff out.

We've overachieved on defense. But that's exactly why Golden is a great coach. The DL is just not there.

We will be **** good in the secondary next year, elite if Deon can get back to full strength. Crawford is really going to develop into a player IMO. He has ups and downs but his ups are awesome. DP coming back could make our LBs a dominant group especially if Kirby develops the way we hope.

Only bummer is this insane 2014 DL/pass rush class likely will be a non factor next year. Our DL is going to need some help but still will have some strong pieces.

I agree with you guys but **** sometimes I forget these guys are STILL really young.

Yeah, the talent is getting there on the DL. We're actually pretty **** good at corner, good enough to win the ACC at least. Jenkins is close. Bush, the most talented of the bunch is just not having a good season because of his injury but he'll come back strong. The DL is just not good enough at this point. We need guys like AQM to get bigger, a DT to develop, Wyche to be good, etc.

Morris just isn't very good. The game is fast for him still as a senior. Good kid, but not the answer. Fortunately our staff understands that and we have recruited two ELITE QBs with more on the way.

Franchise is the best poster on this board, and to elaborate on the speed thing: I'd say it's more explosiveness and athleticism we lack. Other than Duke, Flowers, Felciano, Howard and Coley, none of the starters on this team are elite athletically. Too many one dimensional dudes.

Part of Morris' inconsistency is his horrible footwork. He rarely plants and steps in to a throw. He's got a strong arm, but he keeps fading when he throws. It's like a pitcher that falls off the mound to one side versus rotating straight through and ends up struggling to find the strike zone. On one third down play, if he steps in to the throw, Waters is probably able to catch it and turn up-field instead of having to slow down to catch the low throw and not even have a chance to get the first. Maybe the ankle is still hurting, but the back-foot throw has always been in his repertoire. He needs to get that straight.

The toughest part about Bush is the dropoff from him is massive. His WAR would be a billion.

Artie Burns did not play well today...the fourth down play and the long pass conversion. He's a freshman and it showed. If the kid wasnt a four star recruit we'd be screaming to bench him.

Good stuff Burt. I can't disagree with anything that you said. We're still a couple of years away. We're short on talent in certain areas, and even when that talent is ready, to truly be elite, we're going to need to have the quality depth as well. A win next week would be one of the bigger upsets that I've witnessed as a Cane fan.

Miami's best shot at beating FSU will be in the conference championship game. The Canes have no shot on Saturday. FSU is miles ahead of Miami right AND they are playing lights out currently.

What a ****y mentality.

That dude's a ****. I don't think he's a UM fan.

Nothing I said is untrue. FSU is peaking and Miami is sucking balls right now. Its tough to beat teams in rematches. Right now the two teams are far apart. Best shkt will be in a conf title champ game. You guys struggle with reality.

The 4th down play was not really on him. He had to force his man inside to help. That was the trap. We dropped a DL right into the zone. Problem is Luther Robinson, who was responsible for middle zone, drifted way outside and overplayed the quick in/slant. Can't really fault a 300+ pounder who's asked to play middle zone. Watch the play again. You'll see Robinson headed toward the sideline as the WR goes inside behind him. Burns was chasing.

The long conversion was actually good coverage on a double move that ended in the QB breaking the pocket. Burns was there. He used poor technique by going up with the wrong arm (short arm). His main issue right now seems to be that he's not comfortable with the ball in the air. That's not entirely unexpected for a raw athlete who's still just a True Frosh.

We were expected to walk all over GT, UNC, and Wake Forest. But each week, our guys have seemed to play with a hold-your-breath, hold-on-for-dear-life type style. With less pop and ferocity than I saw against UF. I might have seen it flash in the second half of GT, too, when our guys seemed to think less and play more.

Maybe FSU will have us playing hard and fast and with passion, instead of the bend-don't-break performances we've seen the last three weeks.

That said, we're 7-0. I'm very proud of our gutsy performances, and I'm enjoying the living **** out of this season. Our guys have just felt stunted for a couple of weeks now.

you could be speaking the word of God but I can't respect anyone that names themselves after a canine's sack, dog...

no offense (well kinda)

if we had wake qb, he would have made plays to coley and waters. honestly, when have we had the better qb on the field against a legit school?
we are very young, we are not going undefeated. Kamalua, AQM, Jermaine Grace, etc have yet to have an offseason workout. Also,
i love chick. he is a true cane but he is not that good.

artie might not have played well today but most of this board wrote off tracy before the season. he is a true freshman.

Burns getting the Antonio Crawford treatment I see.

Neither have played near as bad as some here say.
