Some real talk. Lots of real talk...

I agree that FSU is a better team but if we play with the intensity we are capable of, and get some breaks, we can do it.

We need to keep the game close though and let our conditioning even the game out at the end.

It's going to take the best played game we have played in....well I cant remember

Look at it this way, WF was a 24 point dog to us, and came into our house and almost won. Anything's possible. The discrepancy is about the same as it was for WF today.

The one thing I'm holding on to is as much as this game means to us fans, I think it means more to our coaches and players. Golden has shown time and time again that he is one step ahead of the game.

I think The Don and his goons have got something for em.

The one thing I absolutely tell everyone this year is to enjoy the ride this year. We're not as good as our rank, big we're also a **** of a lot better than we've been years. Better days are ahead, and this season I a nice preview of the fun of being relevant again.

The very best thing is that no one will give us a chance.

I'm ready to watch that game and hope we do something unusual. **** it.

Exactly right. Might sound strange, but I'll actually watch that game more relaxed than I did the last 2 because I know it will take a Herculean effort to win it. I was dying with every snap of these last 2 games because they'd likely kill our hopes for the Coastal by losing.

Agreed with both you guys.

We've got nothing to lose and we've got a lot of ******* talent. That's how it gets done.

Every time you think Golden is in over his head, that beautiful sonofabitch pulls out a trump card. I'm ready. We ready.

Miami's best shot at beating FSU will be in the conference championship game. The Canes have no shot on Saturday. FSU is miles ahead of Miami right AND they are playing lights out currently.

We won. All that matters in the end but boy do we have things to fix

I cringe every time Morris drops to pass

Agree with all of this and 'Chises post was extremely accurate. What I'm hoping for (and something that we've seen many times in this rivalry) is that the familiarity between our players and theirs, in terms of growing up playing with and against each other, will promote extreme competition and keep the game close. IMO, if we're going to win this game, it will be because of this factor.

I'm convinced we look slow because of the defensive scheme. The few times we've blitzed this season and play man press we look fast, quick, aggressive, etc. (see UF game)

I'm not buying it. We blitz a lot, and our blitzers look like they're playing pattycake. They look like they're going half speed on the blitzes, and the minute they're faced with any resistance they just latch onto the guy who is resisting them and try to stalemate him.

We often blitz late and without disguise. A couple times today, we showed our blitz early, the WF QB literally pointed and changed pass pro, and the blitz didn't get there. That makes the guys look slower. Our DL is often asked to engage in order to keep contain. That makes guys look slower. Part of that is our style of D and part of that seems like a conscious decision because we're still playing guys who are not dynamic.

We don't have world beaters out there yet - I agree on that. We may not be as dynamic as we will be, but my point (and I think the point of DeadPoets) is that there are instances where we look slower than what we are.

Today is an example where our scheme was used against us and guys looked like they were on their heels because of it. Like Golden said, you have to tip your cap to a really good game plan by WF.

I know it was discussed in the game day board but would it have been possible to drop chick and green inside and have McCord and other speed rushers outside when WF had those wide sets felt we got nothing from the DEs having to run 10 TDs it seemed just to get to prices area code

This drove me crazy. On one play in particular, our DB came up to the line showing blitz, the qb pointed at him and audibled, our db backed off, but then approached the line again and blitzed. The QB threw it to a WR right where the DB would have been if he didnt blitz and they got a decent gain. I have seen this consistently this season and it drive me crazy. If we show blitz and they audible, maybe, just maybe we should not blitz on that play every now and then. In fact, faking a blitz to make them audible into something else and then not blitzing could actually end up working to our advantage.

i guess the thing you can say...which is true is you do not go from being crap to being great. i tip my hat to the team and staff for being undefeated, alot of teams wish they were.i really don't like our defensive scheme, i just don't. Its way too passive for my liking and am used to seeing miami defenses play the style like FSU plays now. Anyways i still have to give them credit for keeping the points down when our offense has been doing absolutely nothing. I also do not like the offense playcalling. like against UNC when the game was on the line we were gashing them with the power running game, same thing happened today. my thing is why wait? When we were running it earlier....we kept on running stretch plays that were getting stuffed and strung out. OUr OL is huge, we should keep pulling the guards and mauling these small teams. It also seems Morris is in the tank a little bit, getting gun shy. I know alot of you are down on him but the injury set him back.....and he still doesnt look 100% healthy. A Morris thats thinking right and playing well is a danger to other teams. And let me tell you, if we are gonna beat FSU he will have to play well to atleast match their QB. When FSU doesnt respect your QB's arm, they sit on every route and sell out to stop the run. Coley need to come up with a gameplan to make them pay.

I don't think its totally hopeless. FSU may more than likely dominate us stats wise but if it gets into a close sloppy game, im taking our team. Redzone D is gonna be critical along with stopping them from running it. Similar to UF game. Gonna be tough tho

Great post, Chise. I said it a few weeks ago, Bush should be canned until next year. He is a "shot boxer" at this point. Dare I say, he could actually HURT us against FSU if we put him out there.

You touched on mostly everything but I will reiterate that I have ZERO confidence in Stephen morris. I dont know what happened to that guy. But we are at the point now where we have to make a gameplan that will prevent us from allowing him to lose the game for us next weekend.

If we can jump on them and get the kids some confidence maybe we can pull the upset. Or maybe Duke goes ape$hit and takes the pressure off SM. But if FSU makes SM beat them I will get extremely nervous.

1. We are still pretty slow. We lack those electric guys on offense and defense that just accelerate past people or explode into them on defense. There are too many plays where we're just too slow to get there to make the play. Looked like we were running in quick sand for much of the first half. I'm sick of hearing about Miami speed because we're more of a grinding and mauling well-conditioned team than we are a fast explosive team. We badly need an infusion of speed on both sides of the football.

Agree with everything, especially the quoted part.

We're getting there on offense, but defensively, we're not explosive. Guys like AJ, Cornileus, and Green should not be getting burn in the 4th quarter of a close game.

Yes. The D still needs a major talent upgrade. I still think we are really 2 years away from being the old Miami.

Three things I would like to hear about from the coaches.

-why don't we try different blitz packages

-why does it seem we are hearing every week "they showed us different things we didn't expect"

-what the **** is wrong with Morris.

I'll hang up and listen, thanks.

We're going to need to take that first punch and respond. FSU jumps on everyone and just buries them before they can catch their breath. If we can avoid that initial flurry and hang in there, maybe we can pull a Buster Douglas and get them late. If we let them start that rockslide on us, it's gonna be a long night.
