So Now Richt Sucks at Recruiting?

The whole we need to win games in order to land top recruits is a fallacy. UGA this season is another example of how wrong that line of thinking is.

Some possibilities:

1. Georgia kids tend to go to Georgia. Richt got a lot
Of elite guys to attend so that's incorrect. South Florida is the most competitive recruiting environment in the country regardless of how good the talent is in Georgia.

2. Georgia had a bad year in smarts first year but they've been more consistent over the past ten years than we have.

3. Maybe smart can point to having four national championship rings in the last 15 years and point to
Him being a big reason for bamas ( and lower regard lsu) success. Richts rings came a lot longer time ago as well at FSU.

4. Maybe smart can point to the next 2-3 years with Eason as qb while recruits tend to know what we're getting with Kaaya (good but not
Good enough).

How is UGA able to get 3 five star including the #2 player in the country against big bad bama? According to people here its impossible to beat bama for a recruit they want.

How does UGA gave a better class post CMR than before. This current class is 16 of the 19 are 4 star or better with 3 five stars.
According to people here you have to win games to get recruits thats why we cant but UGA did not win more games then us.

Is it possible that we once again got a corch, hes just a less corch that al the golden one.

Is kirby smart a super elite recruiter since CMR is an elite recruiter?

How Kirby Saban Jr happen to lose to GT with all that recruiting prowess?

Georgia's staff is also full of recruiters, so that's something to think about. We have guys that are good technicians at their role, but so far haven't proven to be good-to-elite recruiters in Dungans and Rumph. The only one that's elite at both as it relates to position coaches looks to be Kool and possibly Brown. Thing is, Georgia had a good amount of talent that Richt left over there and Strong managed to go 7-5 with it. These kids that he's bringing are going to be his to develop, which with a staff of recruiters, you can already predict the outcome. You'll see the identical thing with Florida on the defensive side of the ball as Muschamp's recruits are starting to filter out due to graduation/going pro. That defense will because to go back to being average.

This makes sense as well.

Kids Wanta play in the SEC anyways and in front of a nice size crowd! Plus UGA pay like the rest of the SEC! I don't care how good of a recruiter you are you are not going to out talk money to a person that need that! If you Wanta help richt out go drop few bags on some door step and then you would be calling him a top recruiter to!

Because Kirby Smart is selling them that they will be "the next Bama", and he's got the championship rings to back it up.

And though people on this board continue to knock CMR, UGA was a Top 10 team 2 years ago and was a Top 5 team 5 years ago.

Kirby Smart is selling a much better product than what Mark Richt is selling, and the product he's selling was mostly built by Richt.

Also ... To answer your questin ... From what I've been told ... Kirby Smart is actually seen as an amazing recruiter.

CMR is gonna need some time, IMO.

I know this won't be popular on this board but Kirby Smart is absolutely killing it this year in recruiting, **** of a 2nd class bump.

His player average is higher then Alabama. If this class holds, it will be the best ever at UGA.

It's not the "be all, end all" ... But it's also not as irrelevant as some posters try to make it seem.

Recent success, or visions of future success, matter to most of these kids, IMO.

CMR was never a guy who coached above his talent level, even at UGA he always out talented the opponent when he faced equal or better talent he rarely won (hence his horrible record against UF but his good record vs GT)

Therefore, with these issues with south florida recruiting we should have went with a guy who can out coach other teams like Justin Fuentes or Larry Fedora.

Because its obvious he cant recruit to the level that he will be able to consistently out talent the top 10 teams. Even this year all the teams that beat us had equal or better talent than us and we beat all the lesser talented teams.

Georgia hasn't sucked for the past decade.

There's no doubt in my mind that Georgia kids grow up often times with dreams of playing for Georgia. There is a sense of loyalty there. The kids in South Florida are recruited to different high schools essentially. There isn't a sense in loyalty as much. Clearly when several elite prospects transfer to 3 or more high schools. I'm sure Smart also has given some $$$$ incentive$ as well.

Not counting last year (finished #11 ), here were Richt's last five classes at UGA:

2015: #6
2014: #7
2013: #12
2012: #12
2011: #5

My point is, UGA has always recruiting at an extremely high level, regardless of who's coaching there

In my opinion CMR planted those seeds for Kirby years before, no one planted anything for him here. Kids were already running somewhere else. Going to take some time.

Then we are seriously screwed, another 5 years of so of 9-4 seasons, cuz CMR clearly cant out coach top teams and the proof is already in his record against ranked opponents and he sure cant get the top talent to out talent people. Butch was a horrible game day coach and couldnt out coach any top team but at least he went out and got the talent to out talent people. People forget he went out to CA and grabbed DJ williams the top player in the whole country so he wasnt only about finding diamonds in the rough. When is CMR going to go get a game changer like that?

He hired better recruiters than Rick did. And Rick left him a relevant program, which is something Rick didn't inherit here. All that plus Kirby Dumb brought that Alabaga bag game with him.

Probably not a great idea to discuss Rick's ability to close and assemble this class until closing time in February.
The premptive ignorance is hilarious.

Someone needs to explain to me how the same clowns who predicted 6-6 or 7-5 but expected a top 5 class garenteed.

Look we might **** the bed.

We **** the bed in October but finished the year stronger than expected.

Win the bowl game and move forward.

Kirby smart is about to reel in a top 5 class after going 6-6. Randy Shannon had a number 1 class after going 5-7. Butch Jones...Will muschamp....Lane Kiffin....etc etc etc.

Like Franchise said, it is only December. We will see how Richt closes this class out. But we do not need to go 10-2 to get some elite recruits because it's Richt's first class.

To further add to that smart just landed isiah Wilson 5 star OT from New York who everyone thought was going to Michigan. When 5 star db deangelo Gibbs commit to uga at the under armour game they will have a top 3 class off rip. That would give them 4 5 stars in the espn 300... this further reinforces what you said we have some weak recruiters on this staff. Thomas brown is doing his job in having Robert burns and in prime postion to land Anthony McFarland. Coach searels is doing his finding an absolute stud in Corey g8ynor and locking up navaughn Donaldson. Also have a bunch of momentum with Herbert and slaton thanks to him and coach rumph. The db recruiting needs be improved but it's less of a problem than receiver. At db we have some nice players committed with potential commitments from dean and Edwards in the future. At tight end is not that good tbh if we don't land mckitty or gambles At receiver recruiting it's looking bad right now as we appear to be running 2nd or 3rd for devonta smith. We will flip Harley but we need some more talent there. We needed to land McClendon as you said and Lilly and we didn't... I don't know where he would coach but if that proposal passes to allow 10 coaches Miami needs to hire Mario cristobal and just move Hartley to special teams coach only and move cristobal to coach tight ends. We need a pitbull recruiter type and we don't have it

Texas is a good example of what happens to a big school in a fertile recruiting ground. Texas under Mack Brown earlier years would sign nearly every top player in Texas and have them commit early and never waiver. They start to lose and recruits start looking elsewhere at the next hottest teams like OSU, Bama, TCU, Baylor, etc...Texas continues to lose they lose more and more players to in state and out of state schools. Its not that Texas has sorry recruiters, they cant sell anything to kids but tradition. In todays landscape of recruiting tradition gets you maybe a couple legacy recruits a year while what where you program now is a bigger factor.

Back to UM. Have not been revelant in the landscape of football for nearly 15 years. So ask yourself why would a top kid that majority of his life of following CFB and seeing the likes of USC, AU, Bama, and OSU win title after title give UM consideration when we been on the revelance of a USF? Well, its the home school, "put on for your city". Why and miss out on winning championships, bowl games, and cash...at the end of the day, win and they will come

Kids in GA are more loyal to their hometown school than these fake 305 and 954 kids?

I wouldn't put it that way exactly....but the people the recruits that have been repping Miami harder this cycle has been Deejay Dallas, DJ Johnson and Trajan Bandy. Problem with that is, only 1 of those kids are from South Florida while the other two are from Georgia and California.
