Position battles going into Fall camp

I really don't get all the criticism of McDermott. I thought he played well last year as a first year starter and should continue to develop more this year. I'm not averse to giving competition, but I don't believe we have even given Linder a snap at C since he's been here.

The reason I have McDermott as my odd man out is because he is the 6th best overall lineman in the group. I'm not trying to knock him, its that he's behind 2 first rounders and 3 2nd-3rd rounder IMO.

Most interior lineman can snap so that shouldn't be a reason that the move isn't considered.

I think McDermott will end up being All-ACC by the time he leaves here, we just have potential All-Americans at every spot on the OLine

Law of averages says we get more out of Shayon; I think situationally AQM will really help us with our pass rush. Agree about Bond.

True...help is on the way; hoping that Bond and AQM can give McCord some help in getting after the QB. Also hoping that Shayon will improve as a player; the effort is there.

Where ever Shayon name is should be Bolded, underlined, italicized, quoted, highlighted, etc. Dude has heart of a champ but if no knees, no athleticism, no production doesnt scream bullseye, Im coming for your head (spot), then I dont know what is. I like the kid and he is great motivation for the little web series they do but Im tired of sucking and having every and any qb straight up giddy to face a university of miami defense. We need to be feared again and it starts with someone who can get to qb and make him feel pain.

"Show me a fighter who is all heart and I'll show you someone who is going to take a beating."

You have to respect Shayon, but the sad truth is that zero sacks from a starting DE won't get it done.
AQM I hope you are 240+ and as fast around the edge as your film suggests because we need you to shine.

Agree on Green and went back and bolded it, just not sure who beats him out. I actually like Bond better at DE, but it seems Golden wants him at SLB. Hopefully AQM is the rare exception, a DE that can make a positive impact as a true freshman.

Honestly hope to see a DL on 3rd downs of Bond, and McCord at DE and Chick and Pierre at DT. Feel like that group could give us a pass rush.

It's still not too late to make a center out of Linder. McDermott is a good player but he's the sixth best OL on the team.

I am the most excited about the battle at LB. This spot is extremely intreuging because there are so many unknowns but still some familiarity.
I would love to see the rotation cut down to only 2 deep, preventing so much drop off in talent.

SMA (is the most unknown spot with all 3 guys fighting for time being new)
Bond
Figueroa
McCord

I think Bond wins the starting job with Fig and McCord continuing to battle for the #2 spot. Whoever wins the #2 spot will allow the other guy to redshirt.

MLB
Kirby
Gaines
Blue
Armbrister (I think it will be best for him to move inside. He is going into his 2nd year as a LB and he could contribute with more experience.)

I think Kirby will win the job and Gaines will provide great depth. The jury is still out on Blue and Armbrister but they both can help the team a lot on special teams.

WILL
Perryman
Cornelius
Grace

We all know Perryman will start here. I think if Grace can come in at 215 he can push Crnelius for the #2 spot.

But by moving him to C you are taking away our best G. McDermott played well enough for me to wait and see how he develops down the road, lets not forget Linder has never taken a rep at C in college as far as I am aware.

From all accounts Grace is a SLB because of his ability in pass coverage. There is also noway McCord or Figs redshirt IMO, too valuable on ST's and they will be in the rotation. I do agree with you that Kirby will eventually win the MLB job, too much athleticism to keep on the bench.

Linder was the backup center in 2010.

Why do u think McDermott is the "worst" one out of that group???

He's not as physical as them other guys. I like him, but I don't think he's quite big/strong enough to be a dominant center.

The center is usually smaller then the other Olinemen but they also have different responsibilities...even if the other lineman are better ol prospects, i still think Mc Dermott is the best one that can play Center.

Imo Feliciano may be the odd man out.... he is weaker at run blockong then the other starters u mentioned.

Feliciano was a mauler last year in the run game. If there's going to be a battle though it would be between Feliciano and Bunche at LG.

Everybody wants to move Linder to center and take McDermott out of the lineup except for our coaching staff. Why is that?

So that KC McDermott signs with Miami on NSD. It's all a massive conspiracy.

So. He just doesn't look the part? IMO they rotate. If an odd man out it is Bunche

A bunch of guys are going to play anyway. Golden keeps saying how he wants 9-10 guys playing a lot.

My best guess:

LT Flowers/Bunche

LG Feliciano/Isidora

C McDermott/Wheeler

RG Linder/Wells

RT Seantrel/Gadbois

Bunche and Wheeler will play a lot while Gadbois and Isidora play more as the season progresses.

Agree and what I have been saying the entire thread. It's nothing against Bunche, we finally have some quality depth at T and I don't see him beating out Flowers or Henderson.

Pffffffft. Lmao

Wow. SMH

You don't watch the O-line at all, or you don't know what you're looking at. Dude absolutely bullies people in the run game. Him and Linder have been our highest grading linemen since they've been here and Bunche and/or Henderson can't hold either one of their jocks.
