Personnel for a two-gap 3-4 next year

I am not sure Bob diaco 3-4 is a 2-gap. Also notice the emphasis on penetration.

You know how all the Kardashian sisters are gorgeous except for one, well in terms of 3-4 DCs we got Khloe Kardashian.

Correction, maybe it is a 2-gap. I'm confused

Ya they definitely 2 gap. When he was hired by Kelly at Cincy Diaco brought the defense with him from UVA under Groh.

3-4 defense has always intrigued me at Miami because of the hybrid athletes we recruit. But as has been repeatedly pointed out, it takes an extraordinarily talented DL and we don't have anything near that.

Problem is by the time most good DL are ready to play in the 3-4, they are in the pros. I mean how many truly great NT types are 20 years old? That's a grown man position.

Look at teams that run a base 3-4. Bama is the main one but they recruit grown men. Look at their OLB - they are 6-6, 240 pound man childs as freshmen. Sofla kids are comprised of 210-230 pound DEs, 200-210 lb LBs, etc. it takes a while for these kids to get up to 3-4 playing weights. We don't have the luxury that Bama has in hand picking specific kids across the country to fit their specific role.

"How effective can you be in a 3-4 when you don't have linebackers? "

This is the most frustrating thing about watching No D' Ofrio forcing this defensive style on our talent.

Its a LB based defense and we do not have the bodies nor the type of bodies to run this scheme.

DE Chickillo
NT Wyche
DE Pierre

OLB AQM
ILB Kirby
ILB Figueroa
OLB McCord

I just pray we find ways to use guys like AQM, CThomas, Valentine optimally. I have my fears at the moment.

With the potential lineups for next year, is everyone forgetting about Thurston? I don't think the kid has shown flashes at OLB, but I mean.... Cornelius and Gaines are getting major burn for us right now. Kirby, in little time, hasn't shown to be that much of an upgrade at mlb tho.

Thurston would make a decent OLB in a 4-3. I think whatever skills he has are not being used correctly in this 3-4.

The depth on the defensive side of the ball is atrocious. 2014 may end up being a very bad year, especially if Golden sticks to his philosophy and friend.

This.

I'm shocked that more don't see the train wreck about to take place.

The DT recruiting fails of the prior 3 years are just insanely crippling regardless of what we do schematically, but extremely highlighted in a 3-4. I don't think it has anything to do with coaches having an identity crisis, they just haven't been able to land what's needed up front, and unfortunately either way we're probably hosed up front next year, especially when combined with the disappearing LB act (EJ, GP, GT).

We don't have the ideal DL to run their scheme and carry out their defensive philosophy, but we surely have good enough DL to be doing way better than we're doing.

Definitely agree for this year. Next year's DT situation is Bluto Blutarsky "HOLY SHA--HITTT!" worthy.

Moten has a quicker second step than anybody on the current roster at defensive tackle.

And he won't do a **** thing on the field for at least 2 years. That's a very tough position for a true freshmans to contribute at.

The kid will contribute immediately. Kareem Brown played very well as a true freshman. So did Marcus Forston.

We'd have more speed on the field if we switched to the 4-3 IMO.

And Porter is one of our strongest players and still couldn't be a standout in this system. Can't wait to see who we put at that spot next year.

Can't wait to see us sign all these stud D-linemen but not have them contribute until they're Juniors. *sigh*
I laugh when people want to point to our incoming class, as if they are going to help us win games next year.

Stacy Coley didn't help us win games this year? Duke didn't win us games as a freshman?

PC,

Kareem Brown and Marcus Forston had very different responsibilities than Moten will presumably have. I'm actually curious if anyone can find or tell us of any true Frosh who have played well and often in a 2-gap scheme.
