Our Admin and the NCAA

Also, where did we make poor hires in the athletic department while Donna Shalala has been President? Name them for me.

Athletic Directors: Both took promotions to higher paying, more responsibility positions

Baseball Coach: Hired Before Donna

Men's Basketball Coach: Hired Frank Haith, who was one of the well-regarded assistants in college basketball at the time. I thought he had major shortcomings while he was here, but when he left for a higher profile position, we hired one of the best regarded coaches in the country.

Women's Basketball Coach: Fired the most successful coach EVER at Miami, and replaced her with a coach that has turned us into a dominant program

Women's Volleyball: We're leading the ACC, so I guess that's a success

Our tennis programs are consistently among the top teams in the country.

Our track coach was the US Olympic team coach, so she probably has some semblance of a clue as to what she's doing.

Exactly what hires are you complaining about in the athletic department, since it's not just football? Women's golf? Cross country?

Well ****.

Do any of those other sports aside from football make any money?

Nope and football hasn't been able to pull its weight for awhile now because of the horrible leadership all stemming from Donna

Point Set Match

didnt know donna was the reason players didnt develop or why they throw picks on the field. thought coaches were at fault for that. didnt know she was responsible for recruiting players. blame the coaching and the talent on the field not the president of the school. she is responsible for the entire university not just athletics. she hired people to oversee athletics for her. she isnt the AD, the coach, or the recruiting coordinator. she has enhanced miami as an academic institution under her watch. we are the best school in the state of florida bc of her and a top 50 school bc of her. that matters as well, but some of you never got a degree from UM so you could care less what the academic rankings are.

I just got my Masters Degree from UM Summa *** Laude in May.

Nice try friend.

I guess some people who went to UM don't expect excellence and make excuses for mediocrity at every turn when things that should and could be blamed on leadership are addressed.

I bet you went there in the 80's right?

All hege does is whine like a ****. No excuses in my post.

Nice highschool response.

You and Caneinsideher are displaying the brainpower of a small pineapple combined. Nebraska and Texas Tech are better than we are? LOL my god.

University of Miami is not a professional sports team. Shalala is not a GM. The buck stops at the AD in college athletics and the AD dipped.

Mediocrity of the sports department, unfortunately for you guys, does not warrant the president to be fired.

Hegemon Nebraska has been better than us in the last couple years we haven't been good since 05 really elite since 03. We're not accepting mediocrity otherwise we wouldn't be complaining about the play. You just attack people and accuse em for making excuses yet u haven't provided one solution. Told u why we won't have a stadium anytime soon u just say we're making excuses. Give me a feasible solution not just attacks. Your a joke and I went to um from 06-10 but been going to games my entire life

Never said she'd be fired.

She hires the AD's and they've sucked. They've marketed the program horrendously (Golden changed that), they have no long term vision (again maybe they don't market it?), they don't do us any favors scheduling, they don't fund raise well.

What do they do well exactly? They've sucked across the board and left the minute "something better" (LOL at Texas Tech and Nebraska) opened up.

Truly hilarious.

Ad at Nebraska is a higher paying job. Scheduling is what it is its made years in advance not the year before. No one expected kstate to be good when we scheduled them.

Amazing

I guess we've never beaten them in sport ever. We're D1AA around here.

The **** I'm reading is truly hilarious. I tell you what guys. For every Sherminator douchebag out there who wants to go live IN THE MIDDLE OF NO WHERE, I garentee you there's 100 guys who would DIE to come to Miami.

Dude we beat braska. In 01 long time ago. We aren't the same team this year accept it move on to the future. Btw eichorst is from the Midwest he likes it better out there Miami isn't for everyone. As an ad job it's higher paying closer to his roots and easier to fundraise

Jesus Christ people, these are questions that need to be asked, investigated, and brought up. Barry Alveraz once again ***** the bed with a recommendation. It's time for the athletic director to actually be vetted and not put into the hands of the Troll.

GTFOH with this Shalala bashing.

She is the President of the academic institution that makes great strides in medical research. It is a school that continues to rise in the rankings.

Her job is not to make the football players happy, sorry.

As a Miami alum, I am glad the school puts its academics ahead of its sports, and it should always be that way.

I'm an alumnus as well and if you wanna talk medical research her venture into that field has been almost as horrendous as her selections to run the athletic department.

Then again walking around campus now a days I notice why our support sucks as bad as it does on gameday. You're clearly in that crowd.

LOL @ anyone thinking she's off limits because we're ranked 35th in the country in academic's. Newsflash this football team injected way more money into the "institution" back in the 80's to get it off the ground for Tad Foote than anything else.

Keep on supporting the Mountain Troll though. She's on board for "winning".

If Hedge is an alum or current student he wouldn't think this way.

If he were, he would know that Shalala has made your degree a lot more reputable by the increase in school ranking, the exposure she has brought to UM and the medical "$" that we have.

Do I agree with everything she has done - no. However, I am thankful that my degree is from a top 50 institution and now when people see the U it is not only synonymous with football, but also with a world class institution.

We will get the football program back on track. Al is the right guy and if he isn't at least he is loaded up his recruiting classes for the next guy.

Re-read the thread friend.

The Mountain Troll can leave for all I care. She's a great politician and has you hoodwinked as well. The medical program is in serious jeopardy because she made a horrendous decision to buy that hospital. All the school's money is being funneled into that failed project to protect the big wigs while the little guys get fired.

I feel nothing but absolute disgust for our "admin". If you can even call them that.

Of course we'll self impose after another pathetic home crowd showing at our last home game (I attended it personally.....glad we pushed USF's **** in).

What a total travesty for these football players, coaching, and staff on this current team.

Donna Mountain Troll Shalala has personally overseen the annihilation of this football program since she took over. Based on sheer results both on the field and who she has selected to "lead" (really? LOL!) our athletic department.

Make no mistake our admin could have done this at the beginning of the year or much sooner.

On to the NCAA....

Really guys? Really? PSU's scandel of the millenium got it's punishment SIX MONTHS after it was brought into the sunlight.

SIX MONTHS.....think about that ladies and gentlemen and the amount of sheer disgusting lunacy that took place up there.....

WE'RE GOING ON TWO YEARS NOW..........TWO!

Golden is starting to lose his cool on the subject and you can see it in his verbiage. The guy knows we're getting F*****D from both sides of the ***** right now and one side ain't round.

End Rant

**** you Mountain Troll and NCAA

agree 110% on the ncaa, but you're an idiot when it comes to administration.

yes, you're absolutely right about shalala. donna shalala personally goes out there and gives up game-winning touchdown drives. donna shalala is liable for our inability to pick up third and 1 on the ground. donna shalala is responsible for stupid penalties. yes, blame our lack of performance on the university president.

Prime example of someone who only thinks on the micro level and not the macro level.

Keep winning.

3 athletic directors in 2 years. She's been on point.

Moving into the horrific stadium and saying "we don't have the money or space for a stadium closer to campus"..........winning Charlie Sheen style.

I see this thread is going to devolve into lunacy.

Look at her RESULTS.....and DECISION making in the ATHLETIC department........

NO SOLUTIONS. APPARENTLY WE SHOULD FIRE THE PRESIDENT BECAUSE THE ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT IS NOT UP TO SNUFF? ACTUALLY, JUST THE FOOTBALL TEAM BUT WHATEVER

1. Golden knows his teams the past two seasons have sucked.....we weren't doing anything these past 2 bowl seasons anyway

2. Golden has been recruiting VERY well and hard ensuring kids that sanctions would hardly affect them......this self impose keeps his promise

3. We were getting at least 2 year bowl ban regardless. Stop thinking we were gonna skate. We werent skating. I think now we will.

4. We were gonna get blown out by FSU anyway....we have ZERO WR's available for that game

5. We finish with a win and a "Could be a very good team next season" taste in everybody's mouths

Lots of assumptions in this post without any substance.

/not surprised

That may all be true Dude but at NO POINT IN TIME did I ever question her academically.

You guys and people like you use that to cover up her COMPLETE FAILURE representing the athletic department.

If push came to shove of course academic's come first. The U isn't a pro franchise, but I'll be damned if I don't want my school President representing every facet of the program somewhat equally.

There isn't a SINGLE alumnus or fan who can make an argument she has been successful in her tenure of our football team and athletic department in general.

No vision, no urgency, no care........

The notion she can't raise money for the football team is so laughable I won't even argue it.

NO SOLUTIONS, MORE COMPLAINING. For the record, the athletic department was losing money when Donna came on board. It's much more financially stable now than what it was at the start of her tenure. The football team's on field performance is worse. She made one bad decision that we know of- signing off on hiring Randy Shannon.

The notion she can't raise money for the football team is so laughable I won't even argue it.

first of all, raising money for athletics is not her job. that's the athletic director's job. there are people who work in athletics who are there solely to get donations. if she spent her time raising money for athletics, she would be doing the university a disservice.

and contrary to popular belief, there are a lot of donors to the university academically who don't like the football team or don't care for athletics in general. in the same way, there are donors to athletics that don't care about the university. the difference is, there are a lot more people with money to donate that care about the academic side.

Why are you still posting in this thread?

It's not her job to raise money for the athletic program? Ok fine. It is her job to HIRE SOMEONE who WANTS to be here and represent this university in a manner befitting its legacy of greatness.

She has absolutely FAILED in that regard.

Contrary to your belief there are even more people who aren't total tools and don't hate the football team that was essential for building the current academic institution.

Clearly you're not one of those guys.

I agree- the school has done a ****-poor job in hiring an athletic director that is not only capable but wants to be here long-term. But again, you haven't stated what you are doing to contribute to making a difference. You haven't done anything but rail on Donna Shalala.

Still missing the point.

There are PLENTY of individuals out there who would die for this gig. Newsflash athletic directors stick around alot longer than coaches.

Mountain Troll hasn't done her due diligence looking for the RIGHT PERSON for the job.

newsflash: athletic directors are making a lot more money everywhere else. yes, there may be plenty of people who want the job, but who's a good fit for miami? if there are so many out there that would be a great fit, why is it that the only name anyone has ever heard pop up is gino torretta? he's a great guy and 100% cane, but he has no experience in an athletic department so it's kind of hard to justify that kind of hire.

LOL what a cop out.

Good lord, perhaps she should stop getting advice from Barry Alvarez who works for another institution on the other side of the country for starters?

You're a walking washing machine with the way you spin stuff.

i haven't seen you make a single point regarding who we'd hire. you can call it spin all you want, but you have no argument so you're clamming up. it's ok though. you can't win them all.

I have no basis or means to know who we would hire.

I never said hire Torreta or someone else who has zero experience did I?

No I didn't, but you wanna sit there looking down your nose because someone questions the Trolls ability to run an entire institution. Don't worry I know psuedo fans when I see them.

You once again misunderstand the job of the school president. But once again, no solutions.

the admin made the right decision to take the ban and it is not their fault the NCAA has taken this long in their investigation. and why would they have done it sooner if they did not know what their decision would be. what is the point of doing it earlier so you can know if the team has a shot or not? an article i read said if we announced before the year then juniors and seniors are allowed to transfer without penalty. if they were not sure if a ban would be necessary why run the risk of losing ur juniors?

Why not do it after Duke?

Garentee you if Duke was a home game things would be different.

I'm not questioning the ban. Mitigate the damage now obviously. The timing is bull****.

You disagree with the timing. You seem to think that had Duke been a home game, we would not have imposed the bowl ban after beating USF. Please explain to me how that opinion is supported by the events of last year.

yes ur a genius do it after duke. take it away after theyve just won the coastal. after they have their coastal champs t shirts and super excited about playing in charlotte for a shot at the orange bowl

You're even more of a genius since they CLEARLY could have done it earlier in the season.

The only reason that's anywhere near valid is limiting the ability for kids to transfer longterm.

There could be several reasons you have failed to consider that are valid.

The Troll is a politician.

Nothing more or less.

That's just an ignorant statement. She's obviously way more than just a politician, but again, just another instance of you not liking Donna Shalala and blaming her for the failures of head football coaches. I've already addressed how nearly every other sport within the athletic department is successful.

My brain hurts after reading through this thread. After getting past the juvenile ad hominem attacks, there's not much else there. Yes, the football program has disintegrated during DS's tenure, but the only major mistake she made was hiring Randy Shannon.

Anyone who blamed her for the move from the Orange Bowl simply has no realistic context as to why that happened. There was no way we were staying in that place. I was personally in meetings with Huizenga's people when a City official told them that UM could not fight the City and that the City would not continue to keep that "dump" around for a measly 5 games a year. So, the move was inevitable.

And if you think, even remotely, that Donna, the Governor, or even God himself could make an on campus stadium happen, you're certifiable.

As for the athletic directors, well she obviously has an eye for talent because her two young picks ended up running HUGE athletic departments within a few years - can't blame them or Donna for those moves. And one of them picked Al Golden (with Donna's blessing), which means Al Golden picked (and appears to stick by) Donna. By the way, contrary to what the majority of our deluded fan base believes, some families don't like living in Miami. And I know it's shocking, but some athletic directors (and yes, they are the ones in charge of fundraising for the athletic department) would prefer to raise money at big schools with droves of good ol' boy donors and maniacal fans.

Oh, and if you think there's anyone more prepared to manage this Shapiro mess and mitigate the damage, please name him or her. This has been textbook. Not a single leak. Fully cooperative, yet we did many things behind the scenes to limit exposure.

Simply put, the facts, of course, don't support OP's general, conclusory indictments and retarded personal attacks. DS cares about football, but it's not her job to run the football program. It's her job to make UM the best academic institution she can. And having had numerous conversations with the woman, I can tell you she understands that the two aren't completely mutually exclusive. If you think DS wants the football program to fail - ****, if you think she wants anything but the most successful football program possible - you're delusional, Ace.

Great you talk to her.

I'm sure you're privy to all the politician is about. I look at results. She's failed. Again there's a difference between academic's and athletic's but you conviently glossed over that. Not surprised.

Love how the excuses for the athletic directors are made. Shouldn't these questions have been asked beforehand or is that too much for the Trolls followers? "Ya Donna I'll run that ship for 6-8 months but frankly South Florida sucks and I look forward to using that gig as a launching pad as soon as another job becomes available."

Yeup makes perfect sense.

Reading these responses is equally mind numbing.

You seem to think because the football team is not winning like it used to, the entire athletic department is a failure. But again, no solutions, just attacking people that support the school.

- Athletics has taken a nose dive since she took over (Football in particular)

- She has pumped large amounts of money to the medical program at a loss

- The academic rankings have gone down instead of up

Why is she still at the university?

Academic's have gotten exponentially better under her tenure.

Academically she's been an A+

Everything else is spot on. She's failed but Team Troll needs to make excuses.

No team has taken a nosedive under Shalala except for the football team.

I was on the fence for awhile as to whether or not you actually received a UM degree, but your grammar cleared that up. Nonetheless, nice to see you come back with an insightful, factually-based reply. All I hear from you is, I don't care about the reasons, I blame Donna...

I blame Donna for Coral Gables' structure, population, demographics, and building code.

I blame Donna for Nebraska establishing itself as a powerhouse athletic department over the last 50 years and becoming attractive to a talented athletic director.

I blame Donna for the fact that our fan base is primarily comprised of a bunch of fair weather fans who refuse to attend games unless we're undefeated.

I blame Donna for the fact that the City of Miami refused to consider upgrades to the Orange Bowl.

I blame Donna for the Marlins buying off City officials.

I blame Donna for not asking, hypothetically, an athletic director prospect during his interview whether he would bolt for a job running one of the richest athletic departments in the country if a world class ponzi schemer infiltrated our booster base, took advantage of our kids, and ultimately ratted out our program to an unethical journalist from from his jail cell, sending the NCAA on a two year witch hunt?

I blame Donna for spending too much time focused on turning UM into a world-class institution and too little time personally assuming the duties of active athletic director.

I blame Donna for the arms race in college football that has put UM at a competitive disadvantage?

I blame Donna for letting all the coaches in America know that we have talent down here and allowing those competitors and their street agents to spend millions of dollars, both legally and illegally, poaching the type of players who used to come here without question.

I blame Donna for the SEC's TV contract...

Got it. I've been illuminated.

Thanks for being part of the problem and not part of the solution.

Lots of excuses. Lots.

Mind numbing.

FOR THE EIGHTH MILLION TIME, WHAT SOLUTION ARE YOU OFFERING?

I'm really happy for you that you have a master's degree. It's also completely irrelevant to any of this discussion. You have done nothing but attack people that have a different opinion than you do, in part for not being part of solution, without offering ANY semblance of a solution. I don't think it's the school President's job to hire a football coach. It's her job to ensure that the person running the athletic department is capable of doing so. I don't think many people will disagree that we need to find someone committed to being in Miami long term, and then making sure we do anything necessary to accommodate that. You, and others, obviously have issues with her politics. I don't care for them either, but her politics are not hurting the University of Miami. You, and others, obviously have a problem with some of the decisions she has made outside of the athletic department. You're not going to find any university whose President has the support of the alum and fanbases in all areas. Just offer solutions other than your constant *****ing and whining in this thread, while attacking other people.

Ad at Nebraska is a higher paying job. Scheduling is what it is its made years in advance not the year before. No one expected kstate to be good when we scheduled them.

Does that automatically make it a better job?

Miami vs Nebraska I can't believe this argument is being made.

Dude we beat braska. In 01 long time ago. We aren't the same team this year accept it move on to the future. Btw eichorst is from the Midwest he likes it better out there Miami isn't for everyone. As an ad job it's higher paying closer to his roots and easier to fundraise

And yet you don't think there's ANYWAY we could have determined ANY of this before we hired him?

Jesus Christ people, these are questions that need to be asked, investigated, and brought up. Barry Alveraz once again ****s the bed with a recommendation. It's time for the athletic director to actually be vetted and not put into the hands of the Troll.

Who do u suggest then?

Again I'm in no position to make recommendations and neither is anyone else on this board. This isn't like coaching where you see the guys on a national stage.

I'm certainly not advocating for Gino Torreta et al, but to say there isn't ANYONE out there with competence who truly LOVES Miami is completely absurd.

Wow.

It's amazing isn't it?

This is the majority of our fanbase.

Truly sad.

What's sad is that there are a lot of people who don't accept where um is right now. We're a 6-5 maybe 7-5 team at the end of the year. Leave the past where it is bc we can't compare every team to the 80s and 00s. That kind of success may not ever happen again w 4 titles in a 8 year span. Be a little realistic right now. We need to first win the acc before we can even talk about a national championship. It sucks but it is what it is.

Be a little realistic?

What the **** does that post have anything to do with this thread?

Canegrad05 has already gone full blown ******. Not responding to his inane posts as I've already commented on that.

I think it's REALISTIC to have COMPETENT LEADERSHIP in the athletic department.

I think it's REALISTIC to have COMPETENT HIRING PROCESSES for the athletic department.

I think it's REALISTIC to have an athletic department with LONG TERM GOALS.

I think it's REALISTIC to have an athletic department MARKET THE PROGRAM.

I think it's realistic to have an athletic department MAKE A SCHEDULE THAT DOESN'T BUTT**** US YEARLY.

No one in this thread has said anything about the teams record, recruiting, et al. Stop deflecting from the topic.

FOR THE RECORD:

What Golden's done here with the ****storm both internally and externally is nothing short of astounding. Especially on the recruiting front and in terms of marketing the program.

Shalala has done a remarkable job at this institution academically.

My gripe is with the LEADERSHIP IN THE AD and the NCAA dragging its feet.

FACEPALM

NO SOLUTIONS OFFERED

NO SOLUTIONS OFFERED

NO SOLUTIONS. APPARENTLY WE SHOULD FIRE THE PRESIDENT BECAUSE THE ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT IS NOT UP TO SNUFF? ACTUALLY, JUST THE FOOTBALL TEAM BUT WHATEVER

NO SOLUTIONS OFFERED

NO SOLUTIONS, MORE COMPLAINING. For the record, the athletic department was losing money when Donna came on board. It's much more financially stable now than what it was at the start of her tenure. The football team's on field performance is worse. She made one bad decision that we know of- signing off on hiring Randy Shannon.

I agree- the school has done a ****-poor job in hiring an athletic director that is not only capable but wants to be here long-term. But again, you haven't stated what you are doing to contribute to making a difference. You haven't done anything but rail on Donna Shalala.

No solutions.

No solutions.

No solutions- more attacks

No solutions.

You once again misunderstand the job of the school president. But once again, no solutions.

I guess the summa *** laude master's degree didn't help you with basic reading comprehension here.

No solutions.

No solutions. More attacks.

You disagree with the timing. You seem to think that had Duke been a home game, we would not have imposed the bowl ban after beating USF. Please explain to me how that opinion is supported by the events of last year.

There could be several reasons you have failed to consider that are valid.

That's just an ignorant statement. She's obviously way more than just a politician, but again, just another instance of you not liking Donna Shalala and blaming her for the failures of head football coaches. I've already addressed how nearly every other sport within the athletic department is successful.

You seem to think because the football team is not winning like it used to, the entire athletic department is a failure. But again, no solutions, just attacking people that support the school.

No team has taken a nosedive under Shalala except for the football team.

I never said u didnt since u told me twice you did a masters degree there which is cool n all and congrats. I was referring to the many others that do not make up or have never made up the 1800-2000 person class that um takes in every year. Also we're trying to find a long term ad. And enough w the excuses statement that's ur best argument along w we suck. U haven't helped the thread at all. No one is making excuses were telling u the situation.

I haven't helped the thread at all?

I wasn't trying to. I started the **** thing with statements (personal opinions) and you've tried to change my mind by providing only excuses.

I don't know what makes you think Miami will be an attractive job for athletic directors.

the ADs have families and they are older. they aren't going to the Grove on Thursdays and LIV every weekend. they have children to raise and Miami schools are terrible at best.

also, Miami is NOT a sports town. on top of that, UMiami takes a backseat to several pro teams (Heat, Dolphins)

AND this is the best part, Miami pays less than those big public schools in small college towns!
