No, your four pages of *****ing and name-calling has been primarily focused at Donna Shalala. When numerous people have posted anything to counter you, you have resorted to name-calling. You have also told people "thanks for not being part of the solution," at which point I have directly asked you now several times what you have done to be part of the solution. You have not responded to that AT ALL.
And once again, it's quite clear that most people's entire relationship with the athletic department centers around the football team. Many people do not give a **** if the basketball team is any good. Many people do not give a **** if the women's team is one of the better teams in the entire country. Same with volleyball, track, both tennis teams, the hockey team, and at times other sports such as swimming or soccer. I understand that nobody cares if our athletic department is losing money so long as our football team is winning, like was the scenario during the last few years of the Big East. I understand that nobody cares that our athletic department is financially stable now because our football is no longer winning like we are accustomed to pre-Donna. I understand that nobody cares the athletic department has done more in the last 12 years to improve the facilities and learning environment for our student athletes than has been done at any time in the modern era of our university.
Let's just call a spade a spade. You are fed up with the athletic department because the football team has sucked the last 8 years. You are fed up with the athletic department because somehow a jackass named Nevin Shapiro was allowed to bring such disrepute to our university. I am, too. But if you think Al Golden has done an astounding job, then I suppose that same athletic department, board of directors, and President you loathe so much should be given some credit for at least finally, hopefully getting it right. And as I've pointed out numerous times, Randy Shannon was the only BAD hire under Shalala, it just happened to be the most visible.
You have a problem with the marketing of the athletic department? It's never been stronger. Between brand recognition, Raising Canes, and one of the best social media accounts in all of college football, this seems like a baseless gripe. If anyone has problems with the job Chris Freet and his side of the AD has done since his arrival, I would be stunned.
As to the rest, I agree with all of them. I disagree that some of them have not been done or are not done, but that is really besides the point. The U needs to do a better job of vetting the candidates for AD this time around. But let's not pretend that the last AD was walking into a ****storm that would have been legally impossible to fully divulge the true details of the situation. There should be qualified candidates out there with ties to South Florida at the least, and hopefully ties to the University of Miami, that want the job. I agree the priority is to find someone committed to the University of Miami, and has more than higher job aspirations as a basis for that commitment. It will remain to be seen if we that winds up happening, but I'd venture a guess that if the football team is back to winning in the next two years as is expected under Al Golden, you nor many others will care who the AD is, what is happening in other sports, or how financially solvent our athletic department is.
