Kid was between us and Broward County Community College but they ended up pulling his offer so we were the last ones standing...

But on a serious note Golden and Co wouldn't have offered this kid if they didn't think he could contribute in SOME way shape or form. Lets give it some time to play out before we tear this kid a new *** hole. Im sure he'll contribute on the scout team or something, and who knows how his body will develop over the next few years.

Congratulations on earning a scholarship to the kid, prove the doubters wrong and show your value! (Please, god...)

How do you explain a guy like Khalil Mack then? Certainly a kid from Florida was known on the internet and maybe attended camps? Kids going unnoticed happens every year, despite the internet and camps. If it's true now, and it was true (to a larger extent) back in the Tez and Maryland days, what's the argument? This may very well end up being a wasted 'ship...I'm not arguing that. Who else offered Figs? I'd say he wasn't a wasted 'ship.

When you reach for kids like this, it means you're failing at recruiting/developing the position.

Woah, woah, woah let's simmer down now. People are acting like Moten is some scrub or some ****. Kid is an elite DT.

I honestly think we aren't capable of landing an elite DT. All the Elite DT's get scooped up by programs that actually win. We get the leftovers.

I just find it very odd that no other schools came after him. Miami was his only official visit. But maybe its an STA thing.

According to the LA Times his coach sent out his highlights and transcripts once he got his qualifying SAT score and Miami called immediately to bring him down for a visit.
We offered and he committed on the spot, so saying he didn't have other offers is a bit disengenuous. Nobody else had a chance to offer him.

You guys do see that this is a 6'4" 330lb DT who is not a fattie.
Kid looks to be just a giant of a boy with real long arms so that may explain his bench.
This is going to be a kid who's going to be called a JAG for the next 3 years, then when he's become 350lbs of muscle will blow up as a redshirt junior.
The progression that has traditionally been the norm for DT's before this recent obsession with instant impact, which never happens for DT's.

In a year of scholarship reductions we jumped all over this kid from 3000 Miles away for a reason.

I think it might have something to do with something Golden said a year or so ago.

He said the toughest thing about recruiting is evaluating for 3 years down the road. You want players who are nowhere near their peak instead of players who've reached their ceiling as a senior in high school, ala Jeff Luc.

This is exactly the kind of amateur desperation move that kills any off season buzz I may have had.




After being miserable through the last half of the season and into the last few weeks of recruiting, I started to think that things could be looking up.

Despite the bad misses, we did land a very good to great class. Then Guldens has to pull an amateur stunt like this and I'm back to question if he has any idea WTF he is doing.

it does happen like Eddie Johnson is another one but Brown I just don't see it. At least when I saw Eddie Johnson HLs I didn't care about stars or offers I felt like he could play. this one I just don't see it

Evaluating him based on film is different from saying that he sucks because no one else offered him in this age of the internet and camps. Either there was zero film on Mack, or it wasn't that impressive, because dude only got one offer. He's going to be a top 10 pick.

There are plenty of reasons. Some kids are late bloomers. It happens. But Miami's track record for finding gems over the last decade I don't blame anyway for being upset about this offer.
