My Stance on Mario

I was gonna post this even before Clemson but decided against it as i knew it was only gonna ignite more intense arguments on a 2 game losing streak. Winning v Clemson didnt change it, nor would it have if we lost.

When Mario came in i decided i was gonna allow man to bring in 3 full recruiting classes. So that means when '23 class are 3rd year players. That means im gonna live through asking myself almost once a day, why we didn't kneel the ball v GT, and what tf is up with these random timeouts when it seems we have the upper hand. Playing for overtime when we have Clemson on the ropes. I decided i will live through these things. I figured Manny, Shannon and Golden were not up to the challenge at various points and they never would be. I hear fans talk about some of the mind boggling things Butch did that made fans get on his bum on gameday. Mario Cristobal seems to be almost solely driven by analytics and it seems that leads to some of the questionable game day decisions. I have to not only live with that but expect it. Its part of our team now, its gonna happen.

Lincoln Riley and Kiffin are probably the two most genius coaches and anytime they get into meaningful games on the national stage, they dont even show up. Riley get punked by bro style king Wittingham at Utah back to back and Kiffin getting put his place by one of Saban's worse teams.

Magic coaching not gonna fix us and i like the coordinators we have, even the assistant coaches.

Unless recruiting totally implodes or we just start getting smoke Al Golden and Manny style. Ima strap in. The older i get the more i put things into perspective and see the value of hindsight.

No one game or one event gonna change my stance on that. I see things i like and things i dont like. I like the overall direction.
Serious question supacane. You talk about the kneel down. I was hoping there would be a discussion on this. There has to be rumors as to why? What are they? I truly think it was not a brain fart. For Dawson to admit he made the call. Mario saying he should have over ruled the call. It was the wrong call. Did not need an inch did not need a yard did not need a first down. What was the other reason? thanks if have an answer

Either get over it or find a new team b/c we can't kneel now.

Every week a player or coach does some dumb **** to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Mario's was probably the worst but its one loss and three years from now isn't going to matter. Jimmy had an epic fail comeback vs Maryland and then Hail Flutie .... in the same year. He managed to do pretty well after that.
Spot on

Devils Advocacy Group member, here. 👋.

Question, can't the same logic be applied in reverse for the contrary narrative of playing for the win instead?

Also, you could say the same about an 8 man Clemson zone in the redzone, in Overtime, where things are clearly more condensed...

We were looking to gain 20 to 25 yards, I believe. With a good oline and space to work with at the end of regulation.

It's not the end yet, my friend...

big difference between 4Q and OT. to move the ball in the 4Q the required distance to get into FG range, they needed to throw the ball because the clock was ticking.

in OT, to move the ball to make a touchdown they could run as much as they wanted because there is no clock

Even mentioning Lincoln Riley and Mario is hilarious to me. Riley getting embarrassed in the CFP or by eventual champions is not the same as what Mario is and has done. Give me Riley's Oklahoma results here in Miami.
They got embarrassed everytime. He inherited a churning machine at OU in a weak conference, not a single playoff win. He goes to USC and is doing much the same with a so called generational QB. I wasnt being sarcastic when i said he and Kiffin are the most schematic genius coaches around. My point is, it takes more than that to win big. And no i would not take Riley here. Football is played in 3 phases, not 1.

They didn’t use the timeouts when we handed the ball off. 💁🏻‍♂️

He needed to run a play or two like I said. I think it would be close. At 25 yards for a FG and the amount of time he had left… 👀

this all occurred 50 feet in front of me. williams and dawson were not communicating well nor was williams getting the team properly aligned. i think this inFLUenced (caps for proper syllable emphasis) the decision to run the clock out.

All I know is choosing overtime and keeping Emory on a short field with the D dominating the game along with the final timeout before the sack that ended the game. I consider that pretty good coaching.

a lot of so called fans love to pile on Mario when players fail to execute or make game day mistakes.

the no quit mentality along with the tenacity and fail to lose attitude against Clemson showed big time. Oh yea and throw in the goal line stance along with the most dominant freshman In decades Obviously something is being steered in the right direction.

After giving the ball up 10 times in two weeks, I won't fault Mario for taking it to OT with a freshman QB needing around 30 yards for a good FG opportunity.
Could honestly hear this exact sentiment in the crowd last Saturday night

It was not a brain fart. I was at the game. We had 2nd and 12 with 1:18 to go and GT with zero time outs. It was over then and he ran it. The 2nd time we ran it on 3rd was when the fumble happened. If the fumble happened the first run i could buy it. @Cribby pointed out Dawson and others told him GT was out of timeouts. Some macho man bull flew into his head. Still makes me sick to be honest. 6-1 with all our season goals ahead was there for us. We will see the lessons he takes or does not take from that

I keep reading people say they are okay with him and it is what it is. What the **** is that? GameDay is when games are played and won. I do want a good GameDay coach not a salesman. You know what gets recruits? Winning. Winning curre all things. Players with bad attitude? Winning covers it up. Personality problems? Who cares when you win.

"I want a meathead who can't coach on GameDay but can recruit. If we get 3 deep in 5 stars at every position we'll have a chance." I don't know how much I've said it but but only 3 coaches since 1983 didn't get at least 9 wins by year 2 and still went on to win a national title: Lou Holtz, McCartney, and Edwards.

Mario is on the clock. If he doesn't win 9-10 games this year he just isn't it and we should move on. Stacking classes has literally never been a thing for programs that won basically titles. It's a myth. It's what Texas A&M does.

On a positive note I do like having a good OL.

I guess these are my stances on Mario

Again on the field where is the talent gap RVA? Where was it against Clemson one year later?

If you or anyone else questions the OL recruits Mario is bringing in you cannot be taken seriously.

All of them are bringing down your average no? So they suck regardless of whose bringing them in. Mario and Mirabel targeted them VERY early on. Those are not Golden signing day specials.

You keep talking like that number is the definitive answer with no context what so ever.

Yes I'm picking OL specifically.

No I don't think the class is perfect.

Yes I do think Mario and company have laid an egg with the DTs they've targeted.
I don’t see it in this OL class but I’ll assume he’ll develop what he gets. There’s no Anez Coopers and Kinslers in this group. WR and DE are good. We have a good Safety and HBack. Then there’s a massive drop off in talent. The per recruit average ranking matters. It’s at 20th. We’ll see how we finish. I literally just wish ESD was here so there would be some parameters in place to look at things.

Ok. We'll just disagree amicably my 804 friend.
At first, I was on your side wanting Miami to put them away on the last drive. I also questioned the not kneeling part. To me, he made the right calls based on how Clemson was playing and their red zone history this year.

Maybe that’s what it is. I’m assuming if it were TVD in there that they’d go the route I wanted so there’s at least that.

The defensive line is playing lights out with a bunch of injuries. The OL is playing the best it's been in **** near 20 years, That's on Mario. The bone headed mistakes that's also on Mario. One thing I can tell you though, I have been to every single *** kicking Clemson has put on us - starting with that Randy Shannon special against Kyle Parker & CJ Spiller - and for the FIRST time in a long time Miami didn't look physically outmatched. Our Jimmys & Joes looked like theirs for the first time in 10 years. Bain whooped OL *** all night. Our OL destroyed a DL that has 4! graduate student starters. This is after doing the same **** against Texas A&M.

Miami looks like a football team finally. A team that doesn't quit. A team that can win against the big boys. Don't know if we will ever reach our incandescent times but Mario is our best bet to do it - brain farts and all.

Just really wish, he would have taken a knee versus GTech.

The not kneeling I don’t accept. Clemson didn’t use their timeouts when we handed the ball off.

I disagree with the part about thinking that a freshmen backup in his first career start had a top 5 defense on the ropes.

He didn’t but we smash mouth bro-style dominated Clemson on the ground and he didn’t lose it which is pretty good considering he’s a true freshman without the best mechanics right now and not much experience.

See this is where I get baffled....how can we accept the Kinslers and Coopers but not the guys with the same body type as McCoy?

Have you see McCoy?

That's this class.

another thing is - aside from last year where I think most agree we didn't have the roster, culture, or coaches to compete..

Mario has shown he can have us up for big games. Now every team is susceptible to bye week blues, and letdowns against smaller opponents (double whammy for us against GT and UNC prime example this past weekend, FSU nearly against BC, etc)

but in BIG games, we have not shown a lack of effort, even in the UNC game we led at halftime but turnovers did us in, A&M we showed up, Clemson we showed up etc.

years past, in big games, we looked like ghosts and got dogwalked because the team wasn't mentally ready. Mario did it at Oregon as well with beating Ohio State on the road.

if we get in position, we'll be ready because we'll have the better trenches in vast majority of games we play, even against the elite teams, and because of our mentality
Don't disagree with most of this, but gentle reminder that Mario got straight WHUPPED by Utah twice in 21 at Oregon.
