My Stance on Mario

They didn’t use the timeouts when we handed the ball off. 💁🏻‍♂️

He needed to run a play or two like I said. I think it would be close. At 25 yards for a FG and the amount of time he had left… 👀

After giving the ball up 10 times in two weeks, I won't fault Mario for taking it to OT with a freshman QB needing around 30 yards for a good FG opportunity.

People who care more about their opinions than the actual team (you) are garbage fans.

I'm done here.
“I’m done here” again? No you’re not. 😂

So people who have opinions that don’t align with the praise of things like your opinions are ****** fans. Got it.

Our class is ranked 20th by average recruit. That’s not where we need to be.

I was gonna post this even before Clemson but decided against it as i knew it was only gonna ignite more intense arguments on a 2 game losing streak. Winning v Clemson didnt change it, nor would it have if we lost.

When Mario came in i decided i was gonna allow man to bring in 3 full recruiting classes. So that means when '23 class are 3rd year players. That means im gonna live through asking myself almost once a day, why we didn't kneel the ball v GT, and what tf is up with these random timeouts when it seems we have the upper hand. Playing for overtime when we have Clemson on the ropes. I decided i will live through these things. I figured Manny, Shannon and Golden were not up to the challenge at various points and they never would be. I hear fans talk about some of the mind boggling things Butch did that made fans get on his bum on gameday. Mario Cristobal seems to be almost solely driven by analytics and it seems that leads to some of the questionable game day decisions. I have to not only live with that but expect it. Its part of our team now, its gonna happen.

Lincoln Riley and Kiffin are probably the two most genius coaches and anytime they get into meaningful games on the national stage, they dont even show up. Riley get punked by bro style king Wittingham at Utah back to back and Kiffin getting put his place by one of Saban's worse teams.

Magic coaching not gonna fix us and i like the coordinators we have, even the assistant coaches.

Unless recruiting totally implodes or we just start getting smoke Al Golden and Manny style. Ima strap in. The older i get the more i put things into perspective and see the value of hindsight.

No one game or one event gonna change my stance on that. I see things i like and things i dont like. I like the overall direction.

Good post. Fair position. Only comment I’ll make is that IMO Mario is led more by instincts than analytics, no matter what he says. There’s too many moments and decisions that could be managed more successfully if he had someone in his ear who understood the analytics and could contextually translate them to him. I think it’s his Achilles heel more than anything. We’ve seen that.

If we want to re-write history, Miami won 19-17 on a 4th-quarter FG.

Either way we win the game. Imo. i just dont think there's a legitimate excuse for playing for overtime based solely on the spacing, respect for the deep ball, the Oline, and the kicker.

Because of those intangibles the decision can be argued ad nauseam.

I'm done playing the Devils game fot now. Thanks for playing.

The big difference is the move to 12 teams in the playoffs. 10-2 gets you in most years.
another thing is - aside from last year where I think most agree we didn't have the roster, culture, or coaches to compete..

Mario has shown he can have us up for big games. Now every team is susceptible to bye week blues, and letdowns against smaller opponents (double whammy for us against GT and UNC prime example this past weekend, FSU nearly against BC, etc)

but in BIG games, we have not shown a lack of effort, even in the UNC game we led at halftime but turnovers did us in, A&M we showed up, Clemson we showed up etc.

years past, in big games, we looked like ghosts and got dogwalked because the team wasn't mentally ready. Mario did it at Oregon as well with beating Ohio State on the road.

if we get in position, we'll be ready because we'll have the better trenches in vast majority of games we play, even against the elite teams, and because of our mentality

Mario might build amazing teams. Belichick can’t win right now and he is Mr Clock management.

But

1. A man driven by analytics always takes a knee.

2. Utah put Riley in his place.

Again on the field where is the talent gap RVA? Where was it against Clemson one year later?

If you or anyone else questions the OL recruits Mario is bringing in you cannot be taken seriously.

All of them are bringing down your average no? So they suck regardless of whose bringing them in. Mario and Mirabel targeted them VERY early on. Those are not Golden signing day specials.

You keep talking like that number is the definitive answer with no context what so ever.

Yes I'm picking OL specifically.

No I don't think the class is perfect.

Yes I do think Mario and company have laid an egg with the DTs they've targeted.

so if our true freshman QB starting his first game ever, throws a pick on that final drive where we have them on the ropes, and Clemson ends up sneaking out a W in regulation, everyone including you, would want Mario's head on a stick!

Listen, I'm all for going for the win when you can, but at that time, where we were on field, how our defense was playing, etc. I don't mind the play for OT. What I was baffled by was actually running a few plays and risking another GT moment/fumble. Like if you are playing for OT, take the **** knee and go to OT.

His bet paid off, our defense played 2 more possessions lights out and we got the W. Just my $.02

Rational posting is weird OP…you either want to fire someone or “you’re truly done this time”. WHICH IS IT?!?!

Overall, I agree. My thinking is that Mario, like any of us, needs to learn from his mistakes and not make the same ones over and over. Get better every day just like he'd ask his players to do.
Go Canes 🏈

Looking at things from a macro (big picture) perspective invokes different emotions. Nit picking intimate details leaves out good and bad.

Are there things Mario can improve upon? Of course. We all see it. I think he knows it as well. No one will out work him. No one has the passion and drive he has to see Miami succeed.

It’s obvious this years team is different. There’s no quit and Mario’s culture seems to be taking hold. His biggest asset is his recruiting prowess. If he can continue to bring in “his guys”, success on the field will follow.

I’ve said many times NO coach could overcome 20 years of mediocrity in less than 2 years. There are signs Mario is on the right track. He now has the financial backing necessary to compete with the big dogs. There are some that have said if Mario can’t get it down, no one can. Truer words were never spoken.
this x 1 million. We have a dude who wants to be here until he's 6 feet in the ground. He BLEEDS orange and green and he will work his a** off until he gets this thing to where he wants it and knows it can be.

Are there things and areas that need improvement, 1000%, but this sh*t of people/fans already writing him off and wanting a change.....ya'll are ******* wild!!

Curious to see the narrative on Southern Cal after Riley's third class, as well.

Dude shot out the cannon with his office, Williams and reeling in Addison and others out of the portal.

A year and a half in he's lost to Utah three times as his team lacks toughness—and Notre Dame even blew them out two weeks ago, while Arizona took them to three overtimes and Colorado almost came back from being down 41-14.

Washington, Oregon and UCLA look. Dude could very easily end this season 7-5 at worst and 8-4 at best—after he got sucked off for 11-3 last year.

His "genius" won't bode well in the Big Ten if he doesn't take playing defense seriously (a la Pete Carroll) and doesn't put a precedent on a built-tough running game.
hahahahah USC in the Big Ten is going to be laughable. USC going to Michigan in November in 20 degree temps. As quickly as USC ran for the Big 10, they are going to run back to the Pac 12.

Based upon the last 15 years if we lined up for a 55 yd FG would there be any doubt it would be blocked and run back for a TD?

The over the top reactionary comments from football fans will never cease to amaze me. This group is no different. The internet and social media has really amped it up as well since people now expect instantaneous gratification for whatever they desire. The U has been in various states of disarray and incompetence over the last 20 years and hasn't really been relevant for most of that time as well. For anyone to expect a corch to come in here and right the ship in a season is insane. Could it have happened? Sure, I suppose, but the Sonny Dykes and Lincoln Rileys of the world seem to have lost their luster after a single "magical" season. If we are really being honest, that is not what Canes fans want - we want sustained excellence, which doesn't happen at the same speed as clicking "like."
As I get older, I believe more and more that some people just love to bit.ch and college football offers the perfect opportunity for every single self-entitled dooshbag with two thumbs and an internet connection to do just that. Another thing I've grown to believe as I have gotten older is that most stupid people will demonstrate their stupidity without being asked to. Example: "Fire the corch!" porsts. Not all of these are awful as demonstrated by Al Golden's seasons 4 and 5. As the OP mentioned, you have to give the staff at least 3 recruiting classes before you can give a FAIR assessment. However most of the Fire the Corch people start their tantrums somewhere between seasons 1 and 2. If they had ever actually been in the position of firing someone in ral life, they would know that firing the person is the easy part. The hard part is finding the replacement, unless you are Kirby Hocutt of course.
Facts are this - our program had become very soft, mentally and physically, and the roster needed an *****. Mario was the perfect person to purge the poo from the roster while putting back players to perform practically perfectly. This team, while still flawed, is significantly better than what we say last year. I'm riding with Mario, crappy game day corch or not.....not like I (or anyone else) has much of a choice.

You say all this and fail to recognize what just happened on the field against a Clemson team that's been stacking talent for a decade.

It's irrational especially considering the "JAGS" you reference are some of the same "JAGS" performing.

You do realize there was no talent gap on the field dont you? We pushed them around on both sides of the line.

Jesus Christ. Every day you regurgitate the same crap.

DT recruiting? Yes needs to be better but turns out Deen and Gore aren't the piles if crap you complained about all offseason.
I believe based off the 247 composite, Clemson has the 5th or 6th best roster in CFB...and as you mentioned, we bullied them on both side of the LOS.

Sometimes I really wonder if our fans understand football.

Emory was touched one time and we bullied their QB all game.

We won the turnover battle.

Literally the only recipe you need to win every game barring stadium collapse.

Even mentioning Lincoln Riley and Mario is hilarious to me. Riley getting embarrassed in the CFP or by eventual champions is not the same as what Mario is and has done. Give me Riley's Oklahoma results here in Miami.

I can live with some his gameday decisions but I can't get over the not kneeling. There are bad gameday decisions and then there are just wtf were you thinking stupid decisions and now there is worse where Mario stands alone with that GT decision.
Either get over it or find a new team b/c we can't kneel now.

Every week a player or coach does some dumb **** to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Mario's was probably the worst but its one loss and three years from now isn't going to matter. Jimmy had an epic fail comeback vs Maryland and then Hail Flutie .... in the same year. He managed to do pretty well after that.
