Jacob Coker graduating early, potential Miami QB?

LULZ at the attack on the idea that Coker could be interested in UM after he was at fsu with Coley for a couple years. OP got attacked because he's not part of the club. If one of the back slapping buddies had posted what he posted people would be repping the guy.

And double LULZ at anyone writing Williams off and handing the job to Olsen.

I have actually been impressed by RW in the footage I have seen from the practice reports. He seems to be a great teammate and a smart kid. I guess I am in the minority in thinking we will be just fine with him. He will be a great game manager who does a great job of getting the ball to the playmakers to let them make plays, just as he grew up doing.... Just my .02

Exactly.

I'll definitely own up if I'm wrong, but I think we're in trouble if Williams is starting for us next season.

The important thing is that there WILL be a competition. Williams, Cow, Olsen and even Kaaya will all get their shot. That is a nice mix of experience, smarts, physical and desire for Al to pick a winner. Al has a ton of choices and each could be the next great. Each of us might think one or the other is the right one, but this staff is proving itself. Al has eye for talent--on field and on sideline. Whoever win will have a couple guns chasing his rear to take the job.

FWIW I am not writing off Williams, I'm just not one of those guys that praised Olsen for months and then bailed on him when Kaaya got recruited. Olsen's upside is something that Williams can't reach IMO.

Not knocking Williams. He is an asset to the team, and can certainly be a quality starter for what will be a championship caliber roster. He can definitely be a distributor and we may just need a kid who won't kill us with bad decisions.

I just think with Olsen's talent, his work ethic/pedigree, I think he will be ready if he can physically just keep putting in work. A freshman QB or RS freshman QB isn't what it was ten years ago (not that you didn't know that). Heck I'm not ready to write off Gray Crow either. When Al goes after someone that quickly, you have to take notice.

Despite everyone getting gassed up over a :13 second clip of Williams at practice, from people that saw them on a consistent basis at practice, Olsen is simply a better QB than Williams. There isn't much debate. Williams is what he is.

As usual, you have stated a very reasonable position. I'm of the opinion that Olsen is a very good talent, but I was never one of those guys who thought he was an automatic 4 year starter type of QB. I just never saw the production from him, and his skills don't jump off the screen at you.

While Olsen's definitely more physically talented than Williams, I'd definitely rather see Williams on the field THIS YEAR than Olsen. And I don't really see that changing so dramatically between now and August 2014, especially considering that Williams will likely play a lot this year, and Olsen will not sniff the field.

I just think people are sleeping on Williams because he looked rough last year against UNC when he got thrown into the fire at the end of the game. Remember how Dorsey looked when he got thrown into the fire against Vag Tech when Kelly got hurt? It's a tough thing, and I think he's improved quite a bit since last year. He's a very accurate passer, a very good leader and a winner.

**** man, if you want to get technical about it, Williams was the best Miami QB in that game against UNC. We were only in that spot because Morris was doing his best chuck-n-duck Jacory Harris impersonation.

I guess it comes down to how you feel about Olsen. Unfortunately missing his senior year set him back.

I think this is more than fair.

I think Williams will have the best shot to win Top Gun but he is not guaranteed the spot.

jruiz,
We're playing @ Nebraska in 2014. They come to miami in 2015.

Sorry for being unclearI didn't mean we're playing them in sun life, I meant we're talking about Nebraska here, anyway my point is that I don't get why your so scared of them, acting like we will get blown out by them and that your acting like we're playing Alabama week 1

We'll have to agree to disagree. Playing in Lincoln, Nebraska will be a very intimidating environment. Nebraska is a good team. Didnt they win the Big 10 last year? Look at last week's game against UCLA. The Huskers came out fast and jumped all over UCLA. Yes the Bruins came back and won but the initial rush of playing in that stadium put them in a hole. I'd prefer to have a 5th year senior in that scenario than a true or RS freshman.

One man's opinion.

Unless of course Olson or Kaaya TOTALLY outplay Williams. But if the competition is close, I'd prefer the older, more experienced player.

Next Year's Offense (minus the QB)

RB: Duke

FB: Tucker

WR: Scott/Coley/Griffin etc.
WR: Dorsett/Lewis/Jones etc.

OT: Flowers
OT: Gadbois/Gall
OG: Bunche
OG: Felicano (maybe Tackle)
C: McDermott

TE: Walford/Sandland

If Kaaya is not starting UM in January then I dont see how he has any shot to start over guys who have been here years. Nice attitude, but if he can come in here in july and beat up every QB that has already been here over a year at least, then we have a poor group of QBs here.

I think Savannah State will be a good time for us to get a long look at Williams. He will probably have video game numbers, but just seeing how he gets plays in, footwork, accuracy, zip, theres something to be said for looking good against any quality opponent. I don't really think of Crow as a dog in the fight as of now. It's Olsen or Williams to me and I think its William's job to lose. It's tough to really know how good Olsen is because we can't see his senior year footage. So we won't have seen anything on him in 2 years other than the spring game and scrimmages.

I don't expect this to be resolved till Fall camp.

For once, we aren't in the "wait till next year" mode after 2 games. I think we can win this year, and winning will open doors for 2014
