Jacob Coker graduating early, potential Miami QB?

So now we're comparing Manning and Ryan Williams?

Wake up. Don't be a simpleton. The dude made Williams' throwing spirals consistently an issue. We're comparing the importance of throwing consistent spirals and looking pretty.

Manning's intelligence and feel for the game is off the charts. We haven't seen much of Williams to make any determination in that regard. Frankly, I haven't been impressed in the few instances where I've seen him pressured.

I wasn't making the fact that Williams doesn't throw spirals consistently in particular an issue, it just shows how, in general, he is physically limited quite a bit.

Go back and watch some old Dorsey tapes, he looks like Aaron Rodgers compared to Williams.

That said, you want your QB to have some pocket awareness and that is my biggest question mark with WIlliams and Crow. I just don't know how they are at that facet of the game.

The more I watch successful QBs, the more I think that pocket awareness and the ability to remain poised under blitz/collapsing pocket is the earmark of very good QBs.

True story: When Butch Davis recruited Ken Dorsey, the kid did not have many offers. The one thing that stood out to Butch and his keen recruiting eye was one stat - Ken Dorsey hadn't been sacked one time throughout high school.

That told Butch that either Dorsey had an amazing offensive line in high school, or the kid had a knack for knowing when to get rid of the ball.

The kid got an offer, and the rest is history.

Very Golden-like as well. Dorsey didn't have the star power but then you watch his highlights and ask "how the **** isn't this kid recruited by everyone?"

Very familiar ground for guys who have followed recruiting for a long time.

LULZ. You guys recreate history. Dorsey was just as limited physically as Williams. And Williams' occasional wobbly pass has nothing to do with physical limitations.

Peyton Manning's arm strength isn't all that either. When you watch him you see anticipation. The ball comes out before the WR even breaks. When the Peyton's WR look for the ball they better have their hands up because it's going to be right there.

People who are knocking Williams what are you basing this off of? Practice Highlights? Spring Game? UNC game in 2012?

Haven't read through the whole thread but 2 things;

1.Don't want anyone named Coker anywhere near the program again.'

2. Why can't we start a true frosh next year? The Noles are doing so, and may other teams have started true frosh. So why can't Golden and Coley coach 'em up and get them ready?

If we are ever going to be back, we need to quit with excuses running a year ahead of time.

Lets watch what happens in three weeks when the freshman QB from FSU goes into Clemson for a night game.

Yes, things are changing w/r/t the QB position. Kids are graduating high school more ready to compete at QB. (high school offenses are better now, the advent of the 7 on 7 summer programs, etc.). That said, freshman still struggle more than older QBs when playing elite level competition.

Again, if the QB battle is CLOSE, Im favor Ryan Williams. If one of the youngins straight up wins the spring/summer battle, then by all means, toss em in the fire without seasoning.

I'd think the opposite, if the battle is close, give it to the younger guy who still has time to develop. I'm not fundamentally opposed to a 2 QB system where both guys are getting a lot of burn. Maybe against elite competition narrow it down to 1, but in the ACC, we should have 7-8 relatively wins every year once we are operating at our peak. Obviously have a ways to go to get there, but no reason to ever win less than 8 against our comp.

Im normally of the same opinion that you stated in bold. In this application Im breaking from that mindset.

Please note my specific take here: I believe Ryan Williams will BEGIN THE 2014 SEASON as the starting QB. It will be up to him to see how long he holds the job. I believe we go into Lincoln on week 3. We will play two patsies in weeks 1 and 2. If I had to guess, I'd guess that Williams starts thru game 3 @ Nebraska. We'll know more then.

Also make note that 2014 starts the final four national championship format, so dropping a game isnt as critical as in years past.

Yep can't wait here's what the four team playoff would have looked like the past few years and tell me who you guys think would've won it all each year.

2012
1. Notre Dame 12-0
2. Alabama 11-1
3. Florida 11-1
4. Oregon 11-1

2011
1. LSU 12-0
2. Alabama 11-1
3. Oklahoma State 11-1
4. Stanford 11-1

2010
1. Auburn 12-0
2. Oregon 12-0
3. TCU 12-0
4. Stanford 11-1

2009 is the perfect example of why it needs to be 8 teams or better yet put the top 10 against each other.
1. Alabama 13-0
2. Texas 13-0
3. Cincinnati 12-0
4. TCU 12-0
5. Florida 12-1
6. Boise State 13-0

Jacob Coker, the FSU QB who just hurt his knee, will be the biggest free agent in the country this offseason. Will graduate and have 2 years

How good is he? Didn't look all that impressive from the little I saw in the WF and NC State games.
