For those bashing our defensive staff for not closing...

It's just as bad at CB.

- Lost the battles for Stevenson/Dent.
- We were rightfully hammered for not prioritizing Elam until it was way too late. Similar to Battle. Sensing a theme here.
- Steele was a top target in the spring/early summer, but he never OV'd and ended up signing with UF.
- We coveted Renardo Green early in the process, but he has stuck with FSU.
- Brownlee flipped to FSU.
- We decided to pass on Jaden Davis, even he's good enough to sign with a team that has made the CFB playoff in back-to-back years (OU).
- After missing our top guys, we also lost John Dixon to South Carolina.
- We accepted the commitment from Damarius Good back in May, but pushed him out despite not having a replacement on board. Whether it was a poor early eval or a poor decision to push him out, this is straight up bizarre.

These are our top 5 corners headed into next season:

Bandy- 4*
Blades- 4*
Ivey- 4*
Frierson- 4*
Couch- 4*

Given what Rumph has done with his other corners, this is 124th on the list of things we should be concerned about.

Te'Cory Couch and Keontra Smith are terrific players. They legitimately belong in any Miami class.

But to have just 1 quality CB and 1 quality safety signed, considering the boatload of *****-ups that keep happening with DB recruiting the last few years, is nowhere near good enough. This is far bigger than just losing the Stevenson battle, it's an accumulation of a comedy of errors.

Why should we expect anything to change in 2020 with top targets like Henry Gray (already decommitted), Jaiden Francois (already decommitted), Avantae Williams (already decommitted), Lejond Cavazos, and other blue-chip DBs with Banda & Rumph staying for a fourth year?
Sickening picture you’re painting but very realistic. I didn’t expect Diaz to fire Banda because he’s basically his son. And we already saw how having your son on staff goes. But to keep Rumph was a real head scratcher. There’s never been a bigger bust as a recruiter in college football. The guy missed on every kid he coached and some since Pee Wee.

I don’t know how we fix the defensive recruiting with all the same guys. But I guess we’ll see how it goes. Manny seems like a bright guy so hopefully he has a good plan aside from “we just need to win more games.”

Its a good group. Lacks elite players and depth. I'd also say, the corner spot has had more misses by our staff and passes by our staff than any other position group we've got. So sure...while its a good group...I'd say we've left a lot on the table here as well.

Our db group has lacked “elite” players in terms of rankings last year but who ended up with the number 1 pass defense this year?

Cool.

And Miami is losing three starters from that secondary.

As I've said before in other threads...Miami is about to start feeling the heat from its lack of strong recruiting. I've said it mostly about OL, iDL, and LB...but maybe corner and safety should be included there. You can't miss on the volume of players we have missed on and think you're maintaining status quo.

You can't miss on Stanford Samuels, CJ Henderson, Shawn Davis, Marco Wilson, Latavious Brini, Brian Edwards, Antwan Collier, Patrick Surtain, Tyson Campbell, Asante Samuel, Divaad Wilson...(you get the point)...and think you're gonna be just fine.

on top of that, did they think a coaching a change during the dead period was going to change the results of today? these kids made their choices while richt was freaking coaching this team. Manny got rehired less than a week ago and hasnt even put together a staff. if you were truly upset today, you just havent been paying attention to the **** around the team (recruiting, current players, on field, off field). it was a disaster in all areas and today is just the embodiment of it
Shhh you betta watch what you say all the experts going to say you a slurper or soft for giving Diaz an pass. They know who not doing what on staff and team and Diaz already made the worst s/c hire of all time. A clear have not been put on for da 2019 season yet but everything Diaz did so far is some of da worst **** all da experts have seen. Dam, now I'm a slurper for waiting for some results on da field. We already know the experts hate the whole offensive staff idk what Diaz was thinking.

Don’t waste your time...Randy was the best recruiter (not coach )we have had in a long time....

Huh? Randy Shannon?

The man was f***ing allergic to recruiting. He was a bum as a recruiter.

Go find all the articles from those years when every HS coach was saying they hadn't seen Shannon or UM assistants around their schools and games in ages. Shannon landed a bunch of kids in year one fro two high schools that were loaded that year and couldn't wait to support the home town hero.

There is not a more incorrect typed anywhere on this board, and that is saying something.

Miami is soft..to nice.... to PC...
Miami is just like UNC,Duke,UVA & Wake
That’s why UM hired Al Golden....really that’s not a Miami coach....followed by Mark Burnt out Richt...really come on man...he was trying to prove UGA wrong when he knew **** well his offense was trash & UGA was right.......
Now we got Manny D...Dade county born & bred...he talks the the talk & his defense did walk the the walk....now he is the CEO...can he bring that same energy & savageness to the whole team...find an OC who can put points up & let the kids be themselves on offense....

For those who keep throwing out our drastically inflated Top 5 pass defense ranking, this is for you.

We returned 8 starters from a defense that closed the previous season by making Kelly Bryant look like DeShaun Watson and Alex Hornibrook look like Steve Young. Then a legitimate five-star difference maker (Gerald Willis) raised **** up front and we had the luxury of facing the following opposition.

Here are the pass offense rankings of our 2018 opponents:

LSU - 66th
Savannah State - 120th of 124 among FCS teams
Toledo - 68th
FIU - 53rd
North Carolina - 47th
Florida State - 28th
Virginia - 86th
Boston College - 81st
Duke - 52nd
Georgia Tech - 126th
Virginia Tech - 40th
Pittsburgh - 120th
Wisconsin - 118th

We had a really strong defense, but the perception some have of this secondary is largely a byproduct of the anemic pass offenses we played against all season.

This is correct but just to add a little bit.....IMO Stevenson was going to UGA no matter who the DB coach was here. His mommy wanted the bag, and she was getting it no matter what. If Corey Raymond was the DB coach here, and the sizes of all bags stayed the same, he still was going to UGA. That one isn't really "on" Rumph.

HOWEVER...that's just 1 case. And his constant whiffing is certainly cause for alarm. I do think he's an excellent teacher, the kids seem to improve under him, and he's been getting production out of less highly recruited kids. But perception is everything in this business. You can't miss on kid after kid after kid at that same position and it not be very ugly. And as you mentioned, many are kids he's known for 10 years.

Look I know Randy was lazy & a sh** show at the end of the head coaching stint....with that being said still won most of the battles he was in when he was DC & Head Coach for the Miami Hurricanes.....our coaches are at these schools all the time & they still ain’t getting the kids so who cares what high school coaches say....

No he didn't win most of the battles...Not even close. Yes did bette when was a DC, because we were top dog. But as soon as he became HC the recruiting problems really took off. One year worth of hometown hero recruits, then it all went to ****. He was awful.

When he was our QB coach, we signed Brad Kaaya (unknown at the time of his commitment), Malik Rosier and Evan Shirreffs.

Maybe he is a better recruiter. Maybe not. His results at Miami don’t suggest it.

He recruited more than Qb's. Stacey Coley wouldnt of been here if not for him.

The advanced stats consistently have Miami as a top 10 defense. They adjust for schedule.

And while we’re here, let’s look at pass efficiency defense over the past three years:

2016- 12th
2017- 20th (with four new starters)
2018- 4th

And this was after Paul Williams completely destroyed DB recruiting.

These are the facts.

Do these same analytical rankings for the rest of the top 10 passing defenses while you are at it. Quit trying to discredit sh*t all the **** time. 9 out of 13 teams had less than 150 yards passing, that’s unreal when you think about it....

And even against FSU who was ranked #28 in passing offense Francois still only a 50% completion rate with less than 130 yards and an int

We are the only fan base complaining about bags not saying anyone's wrong but seems like the top programs adapted and we still behind like it was with facilities. Maybe they will come(I think so) when we start winning but can we afford to wait for back to back winning season to see if that's what it is? In my opinion 2019 biggest season ever and 2020 recruiting class will show how da kids feel bout Diaz and staff. I like what I see from Diaz so far now how will it translate on da field time will tell.
