The signs with respect to penalties were there before we hired him. His teams at Oregon were heavily penalized. For all the talk he does about discipline it definitely does not translate onto the field when it comes to penalties.I see several warning signs under Mario. First, in his first two seasons here we finished in the mid-90’s in the country in penalties. This year we were 115-116, something like that? That’s the sign of an undisciplined and poorly coached team. Second, this team seems to fade in the second half every year under his watch. Typically, you want to be peaking and playing your best football in late October-December so this is another troubling sign. Lastly, this program still suffers from a lack of motivation on too many Saturdays. We still don’t have enough dawgs on this squad who hate to lose.
They were far from dead. The 3 years before Mario (2015-2017) they went 9-4 (Helfrich), 4-8 (Helfrich), 7-5 (Taggart). Mario went 9-4 his first year. As much as people give Taggart grief he did have Oregon on the upswing.Correct and after 2014 that program was dead until they hired Mario…now Lanning has taken it to the next level exactly how he is supposed to
Let's see. Washington State. Seems I remember getting a coach from there that won a couple titles. Mississippi State. SEC program. Texas Tech. He put them on the map and had some really good seasons there, including some really big wins. You know, like Mario's ONE big win against Ohio State. His resume was a lot better than Mario's.Taking mid programs to decent bowl games literally has no correlation to the skill set needed to compete on a national level. The CIS legend of Mike Leach’s greatness has no basis in reality.
Exactly. People acting like Mario resurrected a dead program is a joke. They were far from dead. The 3 years before Mario (2015-2017) they went 9-4 (Helfrich), 4-8 (Helfrich), 7-5 (Taggart). Mario went 9-4 his first year. As much as people give Taggart grief he did have Oregon on the upswing.
love him or hate him Mario will be here for the next 4-5 years, we cannot afford the buy out...... he will always have talent , we will always be heavily penalized and there will be 1 or 2 head scratching sideline decisions as well. its fools gold to change HC's every 3 years......more or less a recipe for failure4 more years!

Many on here say Mario left Lanning a great situation, but the #s say otherwise as far as # of transfers Lanning has made in his tenure to improve his roster. This was year 3 of Mario and Lanning is running circles around him again. Oregon got the better of the deal with Mario coming here
That’s what I think if Mario can’t win it’s over man boosters and admin are helping like never before and I can’t see it continuing if Mario gets firedAn actual Xs and Os coach, who can also recruit, which is what you need in this day and age to be successful. If you're not a strong Xs and Os coach, you need to get coordinators who are some of the best of the best (or at least hihgly competent). The successful Miami coaches of the past were great X and O guys/coordinators . Butch Davis may have been the outlier as people on here have questioned Butch's play-calling as HC, but he was a pretty good D-Co under Jimmy for 2 seasons and truly had to rebuild Miami. Mario has one year of experience as a Co-OC at Oregon under Taggart and it constantly shows when coaches of lesser talented teams coach circles around him on gameday.
If Mario doesn't succeed here and the admin/boosters don't want to pay what it costs to have a successful team beyond him, then fold the program.
Yea for as much as he loves Miami he isn't leaving money on the table unlike Richt which is another reason I respect Richt.love him or hate him Mario will be here for the next 4-5 years, we cannot afford the buy out...... he will always have talent , we will always be heavily penalized and there will be 1 or 2 head scratching sideline decisions as well. its fools gold to change HC's every 3 years......more or less a recipe for failure
We could very easily have been 8-4 this season, even with Cam. So, you're right about that.Cam had an easier schedule in 2023 and went 5-7. So it was more than Cam.

I doesn't matter one darn bit what the fans loved or didn't love. Mario hired the guy. Mario makes 80 million to make the right hires. When you break down the film you easily see that this defense if abysmally coached. Mario should have known that before he hired the bum. We are just fans. Mario got hired to make these decisions. You see the difference? Mario should have known Guidry ran a fundamentally unsound defense after his 2 week interview but he didn't because Mario is x's and o's illiterate.Bruh the defensive coordinator lost us this game point blank period..now if you want to blame Mario for hiring him then fine but yall loved him last year
I agree, it's all on Mario. Saban would told Guidry to fix problem or just fired him.I doesn't matter one darn bit what the fans loved or didn't love. Mario hired the guy. Again I saw little complaining about his scheme/coaching last year, most ppl praised him n said he was the better of the 2 coordinators am I lying ? this is the same DC that helped us shut down Clemson and beat them in god knows forever did u think he was a bum after that game? my point is he got exposed when he no longer had top athletes in the secondary nobody saw this terrible of defense coming not even Mario i suspect , if u wanna blame Mario for not foreseeing that n giving him an extension then have at it that’s fine but at the end of the day Guidry couldn’t even coach these guys up to be average/below average & it cost usI doesn't matter one darn bit what the fans loved or didn't love. Mario left him with a 10-3 team and a roster stacked with talent. So far, all he’s done is lose games where he clearly had the better roster. Saying he’s better than Mario already feels like a huge stretch.
He didn’t have to rebuild anything, he was handed a loaded squad, especially in the trenches. The foundation was there; he just hasn’t delivered.
