We have NEVER attracted big names outside of “Miami” guys.
Why aren't we talking about how to improve, rather than having this irrelevant conversation.
To recruit and coach OL, I think is what he excels at though without strong NIL the recruiting is neutralized. I don’t think he’s a particularly strong identifier and developer of overall team talent. That's why Nick Saban hired him to coach the OL and be in charge of...... Recruiting ......at Alabama
The catch is that the money people made it happen because they personally wanted Mario and have connections to him. No one else was getting the backing he got. We can hope to catch lightning in a bottle next time I suppose. There is a certain faction within UM’s admin/BOT that have wanted to hire Mario ever since he took the FIU job. Thankfully he’s about the last “UM guy” in the coaching sphere, so once they’ve gotten this out of their system, maybe we will do an actual search for once. Let’s just pray Greg Schiano retires by then.
Kicking a fg was retarded for one.The question was about game-day coaching decisions by Mario this afternoon, not the staff/systems issues you're talking about.
I remember when Mike Leach practically BEGGED for the job, and we blew him off. What big names are you looking for? Urban Meyer? Nick Saban? Coordinators? Since UM only interviews UM guys for the job it isn’t very easy to say no one was attracted.
Too many “fans” on this board would rather be “right” than support the program. Mario has warts and we all knew that. But the progression and development is undeniable. BuT hE’s NoT lAnNinG! We also don’t have Phil Knight and he took over for Manny, who’s now da gawdThis is such a pathetic display of Cane tears.
Bunch of dudes crying for a guy who isn't our football coach.
I remember when Mike Leach practically BEGGED for the job, and we blew him off.
We deserve every bad thing that comes our way. We are run by what appears to be the local mafia.
I'm gonna hold off till the portal closes. Then I'll meltdown to the appropriate degree. You improve by
1.) getting better players
2.) getting better coaches
We definitely are going the opposite direction on the 1st part.
Then he promptly goes to Miss State and starts beating SEC teams with Miss State talent. Yeah, he was a real good coach. One that would have fit the talent in South Florida perfectly. Instead, we get one Miami failure after another.Mike Leach was not a "big name". He was a gimmicky, 9-win ceiling coach who said funny things at press conferences.
