Finally Admit Lanning > Mario

Great, we won 10 games and blew a 21-point lead, largest comeback in Syracuse history, with everything on the line. Guess we can give Mario a BOZO button for getting us to 10 wins in year 3. And yet Manny and Duke won 9 games, so Mario is 1 game better than Manny. Woo Hoo

I get you're mad, but now what? Ready to move on to who?

They all suck. We have very little talent on D, and that's directly on the head coach who is supposedly good at one thing. Recruiting. Guidry didn't do a good job today, or this season. Mario didn't do a good job putting a D together. They are both bad.
All I’m saying is there’s enough talent on our defense to stop freaking Syracuse from scoring 42 points the way they did ..D coordinator owns the blame 100% but Mario hired him so he has to take responsibility too but nobody would’ve predicted this in the beginning of the season ..it was a lovefest with guidry.

So in your opinion this is all strictly a personnel issue ? OJ keeps getting cooked in man coverage with no help over the top and Guidry refuses to put safety help over the top lol..I thought a coordinators job is to put his players in the best position to be successful and call the right plays... do you think Guidry did a good job of that today ??
Well player acquisition and development are the coaches' responsibility, so no, Guidry hasn't done a good job at all. The DL has unperformed big time, so Big Joe (what a waste) and JT have failed in their jobs, the starting LBers are horrible so DNic should be held accountable, and the DBs are atrocious so what has Chevis done? Defense and special teams are terrible and something you would expect at Akron or Kennesaw St

If you've read some of my other posts, I said there is no clear cut answer. But for those who say Mario built Oregon and Lanning is riding his coattails is pure BS. Look at Mario on the sidelines...does he instill confidence in you as a HC? He looks like a bumbling idiot to me. But strange that Curt Cignetti can win 11 games in his first season at Indiana and Mario just blew a 21-point lead with everything on the line...we're talking about Indiana who had NEVER won 10 games in a season before won 11 games this year

I agree it’s a coaching issue.. we have enough talent to stop Syracuse from dropping 40 on us with no lube but the scheme and play calling is mind boggling, absolutely 0 adjustments today it’s unbelievable how that game played out.

We’re better now than when Mario was hired. No question about it. The question is can he build a long term successful program. He has yet to prove that and that is the question he will need to answer. That starts now assuming we don’t make the playoff. First item on the list of things to address is the defensive staff starting with DC. Signing day then portal. Mario has proved his initial worth now let’s see the long term build and if he is capable of that task. Hardest task to accomplish in college football and not many have.

Cool. Bring in Cignetti? At some point you need to stop ranting and come up with some kind of logical plan of action.

And who by chance is the one responsible for roster management and player development? Who is the one who hired the defensive staff? This is year 3 and with NIL and the transfer portal there is no excuse for having an atrocious defense and special teams. Mario can only focus on 1 thing at a time, hence the reason we stopped recruiting visits the last 2 weeks to prepare for the final 2 games.

The question was about game-day coaching decisions by Mario this afternoon, not the staff/systems issues you're talking about.

No actually that is the administration's job. Strange how Cignetti won 11 games at Indiana and Dillingham won 10 games at ASU though. Apparently, some people are getting it right, just not UM. But why should they...just look at the baseball program and JD Arteaga

So 10 wins were automatic because of the schedule?

It's a simple concept, but it makes you mad. We are one of very few teams that will win 10 games. If that's not good enough, get used to an ongoing cycle of head coaches for another 20 years.
Name the one school on our schedule who was close with the talent advantage? Name the one? If u can’t see that Mario does less with more then maybe u should take his shaft out the throat

Roster-improvement happens everywhere, except Clemson.

How about program trajectory and the culture inherited?
Culture and discipline of getting a penalty at the worst possible times on both offense and defense in the 4th quarter today - 1 ending a drive leading to Mario settling for 3, and then another to end the game to watch Syracuse kneel.

Many on here say Mario left Lanning a great situation, but the #s say otherwise as far as # of transfers Lanning has made in his tenure to improve his roster. This was year 3 of Mario and Lanning is running circles around him again. Oregon got the better of the deal with Mario coming here
There is no debate ... none.

My response was to someone else's post so... The most obvious was the FG with 3 1/2 minutes left when we hadn't stopped 'Cuse since the 1st quarter. But player development throughout the year affected today's coaching decisions because we had to go with the same guys that have been burned all ACC season. Leaving OJ on an island play after play with no safety help is criminal. Dawson is great in the 1st quarter but then seems to go away from what is working like he did today. And of course, the critical penalties, i.e. George and Moten in the 4th quarter show a lack of discipline that continues to happen game after game

I didn't doubt his love for the U when Alabama was pushing him around during the Sugar Bowl. He's a worse coach.

But hey, he's a local guy who can speak Spanish.
I doubted his love for the U when he left Miami at the altar to go coach at Alabama

Agreed 100%, nothing worse than watching undisciplined play and selfish behavior; but my response was about about the starting-points and "inherited" culture 3 years ago.

It is infuriating. The team is not prepared, undisciplined and not tough and physical. **** house of cards. Thankfully Cam made it fun for a while.

I agree with you 100%.

If you go by Mario's program-build timeline this was the win close year, and I believe we did that for the most part. Cam made us feel further along than we were and Mario went for it in the portal, but we are still in need of talent.

We won't have Cam, but we'll have a better team next year.
