Fernando Mendoza

He looked better in games I saw, with worse talent, than Emory did with better talent, but what do I know? My experience is 3 varsity snaps against Palmer-Trinity in 1994.
You’re in the 99th percentile on this board.

If you had to pick between Mendoza and Emory, you pick Mendoza, he's actually had a whole year of starting with a horrific O-Line and almost zero weapons and performed well enough

Is TrumpyCane a big fan? Not really but anyone preferring to go with Emory if we can get a proven starter is an idiot

The idea of bringing Mendoza in to compete is hilarious. If this dude is really going to get $1mm+ he’s not coming in to compete. And if there’s a competition, you ******* whiffed big time.

Also, a lot of “Bring him in and surround him with elite talent and get the defense right.” Where the **** is all that money coming from. You don’t spend $1mm+ on a game manager that you need to build a team around to carry you. That’s how you turn into the Dolphins.
if they had $3mil for Mateer, then they have $1mil for Mendoza + $2mil for other "starter talent".. could be spent on 4x$500k players, 2x$1mil players, or 1x$500k and 2x$750k. Lots of combos when doing basic math/budget.

I'm assuming $500k-$750k can get you some guaranteed starters in the portal. So the same amount of money as Mateer at least it brings you Mendoza + 2 other starters and maybe up to 4 other starters (assuming Mendoza costs about $1mil).

Not sure you can assume the money for Mateer is fungible.

Agreed, but entirely dependent on price.

Lot of assuming, do we know we were offering 3mm for Mateer? What kind of players can you get for $500k? Singleton is apparently getting 7 figures. So nobody on that tier. And other teams have money too. And conference logos that carry weight. And QBs that will move the needle for portal guys. Mendoza isn’t doing that.

At the end of the day we have no idea what the budgets are, or what guys are actually commanding on the market. But if Mendoza is on the high end, I just think we’d be better off trying to overpay elsewhere.

You drink enough of that, the 7 will turn into a 9.5 in a hurry.
A 7 that cooks, cleans, and does that thing you like in bed is better than a 10 that doesn’t do any of it.

Learned that from the bar closing at 3AM on Broadway my freshman year of college. That night was the equivalent of the coaches kid that couldn’t make contact off a tee getting an at bat on senior night and going yard dead center on a 0-2 count.

And a 7 might be generous. But woke up and my house was clean, kitchen spotless, bathroom scrubbed, breakfast in bed, and she paid for her own ride home.

yes, a lot of assuming.. same assuming as anybody who says we can't get better talent around Mendoza than we could have around Mateer...

I'm assuming, justifiably, that Mendoza costs significantly less than Mateer.
I'm also assuming that Mario has an NIL budget and how he allocates that budget is up to him. If both are true, that means he has leftover money that he intended to spend on Mateer that he now can spend on other players.

But at the end of the day, we're all assuming until the portal class is wrapped up. Then we'll assume again for the spring portal period. Then we'll assume all offseason and summer until the season starts. And then the season will start and we can judge all of our assuming over the last 9 months.

Wash, rinse, repeat. It really is pretty stupid what we fans do.

He'd play his *** off for us.

Quarterbacked Columbus' first two state titles.
I’m okay with it for two reasons.

1) He’s played/starter P4 football and was a decent starter without highly recruited or portal talent around him.

2) He shouldn’t cost too much - which allows us to allocate those funds across the roster to improve depth at WR and DB.

I read this in a Scott Steiner voice in my head.
